LifeHiscost Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 ____last plagues. Quote: Beware: New Contagious Parasite Hits USThere is a new disease menace moving north in the America’s -- possibly more serious than AIDS. It’s carried by so-called “kissing bugs”, which bite you round the mouth while you sleep and infects you with the Chagas disease creepy parasite: the American trypanosome. More than 8 million people have been infected by potentially fatal Chagas disease, most of them in Latin and Central America. But more than 300,000 live in the United States. An editorial, published the Public Library of Science’s Neglected Tropical Diseases journal, said the spread of the disease is reminiscent of the early years of HIV. The US’s Centers for Disease Control has branded Chagas as one of five serious and “neglected” parasite diseases. The journal editorial called Chagas, “the new AIDS of the Americas.” Both diseases disproportionately affect people living in poverty, both are chronic conditions requiring prolonged, expensive treatment, and as with patients in the first two decades of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, most patients with Chagas disease do not have access to health care facilities. However, Chagas is not a sexually-transmitted disease: it’s spread by “Kissing bugs” (Family Reduviidae), which bite the unsuspecting victims around the lips, usually at night. It’s hard to stop and this pest has now spread to California, Arizona and other parts of the Southern USA. Chagas, kills about 20,000 people per year. It’s difficult to cure (unless you get my book) and around 20 percent of those infected with Chagas will develop a life-threatening form of the disease. About a quarter of its victims eventually will develop enlarged hearts or intestines, which can fail or burst, causing sudden death. Treatment involves harsh drugs taken for up to three months and works only if the disease is caught ear The trick is to determine which is the plague, the bug or the salesman. See underlined. LifeHiscost Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 Well, I actually decided, after the derisive comments, to google the disease and it actually is a disease. Whether the book is real is anybody's guess. Here's a couple of URLs that might be of interest. http://hardinmd.lib.uiowa.edu/cdc/chagas6.html http://hardinmd.lib.uiowa.edu/cdc/chagas.html God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
cricket Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Is there a link in the first post? It's quoted, so I assume the poster is not the author. Who is the author of the original material? Quote
LifeHiscost Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 I couldn't find the original article but here's another. http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-05-...n-heart-failure Quote: Disease is called ‘new AIDS of the Americas'MEGHAN NEAL Tuesday, May 29, 2012 Experts have dubbed it the “new AIDS of the Americas.” A parasitic infection called Chagas Disease has similarities to the early spread of HIV, according to research published recently in the journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases. Like AIDS, Chagas is hard to detect and has a long incubation period before symptoms emerge, the study said, according to the New York Times. As many as 8 million people are infected in the Western Hemisphere, mainly in Bolivia, Mexico, Colombia and Central America, as well as some 30,000 people in the U.S., the newspaper reported. Chagas infects people in areas of poverty, and most U.S. cases are found in immigrants BTW, this URL has a good picture of the bug that does the kissing. Lovely little critter! God blesses! LifeHiscost Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 For those who have invited Jesus into their life, He brings these promises. "A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you." Psalm 91:7 NKJV ".....the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach" Col 1:26-28 NKJV God blesses!
