before they are ready?

The same could be said of pastors. Do pastors push children to be members before they have a good understanding or a degree in theology and the 28 Fundamentals?

How much of the 28 Fundamentals needs to be understood and accepted before becoming a member?

Can a child really understand the 28 Fundamentals?

I'd say yes to the OP, if we are talking about many years ago. In the past number of years, maybe 20-30 I'd say no. I know we never pressured our daughter and she finally did get baptized, not that I'm judging, but not that it did her any good at the moment. I pray she will realize her decision and what it means.

IMO, baptism is a public statement that you have given your life over to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Savior (a serious decision that is made relatively quickly); not an assertion that you have studied all of scripture and correctly understand it's nuances and esoterics. Baptism is also non-denominational. If someone has been "dunked" in another denomination, they don't have to be "re-dunked" to become and SDA.

Exactly. We needed the correct definition of baptism to have this discussion. Thanks JoeMo

If we needed to be re-dunked every time we turned our backs on God - or discovered how little we knew when we were baptized originally - then our church would go bankrupt hiring enough pastors. lol

No - baptism is a one time event. It is for when you FIRST meet our Savior.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Not to mention paying water bills and using up most of the free world's supply of freah water refilling baptism tanks!
