Umfundize Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 If you Google: Frances and Friends (a Q&A program) and check the archives of June 5,6 and 7 you can view a discussion on Seventh-day Adventists. And hear the nonsense some SDA's are calling in! The panel shows very clearly how the Clear Word SDA Bible qualifies SDA as a CULT! Is it possible the GC can stop this? At any ABC you can choose between 3 different leather-bound editions and 4 soft covers! They point out that, contrary to the warning in Rev 22, Blanco was allowed to MIX Scripture with the conjectures of EGW! Do you blame other Christians when they call SDA a CULT? Own Bible, own prophetess, only true church, not the blood alone, heavenly millennium, Catholic Trinity, etc. Quote
Gibs Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 She is falling back into where she came up and out in the beginning. When we are not advancing we begin to fall back and the same with a church structure. It must be a walk further from Satan each day to a closer walk with Jesus each day. The SDA church advanced for a spell and after 1888 it began in decline, slow at first but the message of 1888 was not received but in part. Too many came out of legalism up on that narrow way but as time went on into the oposite ditch of liberalism and now wallows happily in it. There is nothing wrong with EGW, she was sent as a messenger to bring the people back to the Bible and away from the false teahings of men that have become rampant. Today in her writings she leads to the truth of the way of salvation, the most important of all subjects but is disregarded as nonsense. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Moderators Kevin H Posted June 26, 2012 Moderators Posted June 26, 2012 Sadly the first printing of "Clear Word" said "Clear Word Bible" to which Dr. Blancho soon put a stop to. That book is no more or no less than what most pastors do on Sabbath or Sunday, preaching on some texts. It is a long sermon about the Bible, paraphrasing and adding in things that Dr. Bancho found useful whether they be from professors he has studied with, his understanding and things he has read in commentaries and journals including Mrs. White, and comments from his students that he thought was interesting. He does not sepperate out which thought comes from where. The words of Ellen are not in red. Now a Bible is authoritive. The Clear Word is not authorative. I am free (and frequently do) dissaree with it. Dr. Blancho did a good study and a good job. Quote

I don't know of ANYONE in the church who uses it for study purposes. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Umfundize Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 The problem is one of perception. On Frances and Friends, June 5,6 & 7 they actually displayed a "SDA-Bible", printed on the front The Clear Word BIBLE. Then they showed the endorsements of Elders Folkenberg and Gordon. THAT is why some call SDA Cult of the Year. If it was only intended for "study", why print it AND bind it to look just like a "real" Bible? To deceive people? Are you aware that Clear Word is one of the the top money-makers for ABC? and R&H? Is it possible for us to be honest about this or MUST WE defend anything that could pose a threat to the church? Why not get rid of all the "extras" that cause other Christians to label us a CULT? And, to be honest, originated with EGW et al. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 6, 2012 Members Posted July 6, 2012 The "Clear Word Bible" was only published under that name for 2 years. For the past 15 years it has been published as "The Clear Word." Give it a rest. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted July 6, 2012 Administrators Posted July 6, 2012 I agree. It is long past time to give it a rest. It is clearly marked as a paraphrase, quite like Eugene Peterson's Message Bible. I don't here these same people calling it the Presbyterian Bible or the Presbyterians (or anyone else that values and uses the Message) a cult as a result. (Eugene Peterson was a Presbyterian pastor.) Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Administrators Gail Posted July 6, 2012 Administrators Posted July 6, 2012 Are you aware that Clear Word is one of the the top money-makers for ABC? and R&H? It is?? I work at an ABC where I sell Bibles and it is NOT one of our top sellers. AND as I mentioned before I don't know of any church member who uses it for study. Where on earth are you getting your (mis)information? Perhaps things are different in our corner of the world. Whereas many people still buy the KJV, Seventh-Day Adventists are also interested in other versions. NKJV does sell, less of the NIV but the Message, NASB, NLT also go. The other day I helped someone procure a Common English Bible, because it is the one that Dwight Nelson uses in his sermons and she likes it. skyblue888 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I wish we had never come up with such a Bible. I could be wrong but this is what I have heard. sky I have to dissagree Sky; when you take it for what Elder Blanco meant it to be it is a wonderful job. I'd love to write my own version of it. According to Graham Maxwell (and others that I heard) that Elder Blanco was fit to be tied when he saw that they printed it as the clear word Bible and called the publisher so that after that first printing the word "Bible" was dropped from the title. Yes, it includes Mrs. White's point of view (using her in a way she tells us NOT to use her) but also his point of view, things he has studied in his years of teaching and education, the points of view of professors he had and commentaries he read, and even the points of view of student's of his that he found impressive. As you read the expansion of his paraphrase, he does not distinquish what he got from Mrs. White, what he got from his professors, what he got from commentaries, and what he got from his own study or the comments from his students. Like I said before the words of Ellen are not in red. Her ideas are mixed with his, and those he studied with and taught all mixed together making, once again a very long sermon on the Bible and his understanding of the Bible. And once again a Bible is authoritive. While the clear word is NOT athoriative. The Jehovah's Witness needs to follow the beliefs that they use the New World Translation for. Seventh-day Adventists can choose to read or not read the Clear Word. If we choose to read it we can take was we find useful to include in our understanding and reject what we don't find useful. And the purpose for this discussion here is to let us know that if we learn about people who are confused about the Clear Word that we have the information presented in this paragraph to let them know that they simply misunderstand. CoAspen Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Why are people so afraid of what others may read or not read. Who has been appointed the 'protector' of the Bible, another book written by humans? Why is their so much concern for 'others' correct understanding of the Bible when we strive for so little understanding on our own? Why do we not trust the H*S for guidance in all things? Quote

This kind of thinking, knowing what the truth is, makes me respect those who make that claim a lot less. It reminds me of that company that put out videos that were anti-Mormon or anti-JWs. When they attempted an anti-SDA one the information was so skewed and untrue that I complained to their salesperson. She replied that she had received many complaints about it. I never bought from them again. I thought that if they were so misinformed about OUR beliefs, how could I trust them on the information they had about the other faiths they had videos about?
