LifeHiscost Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Here is something any of you who may have a little older computer might want to investigate. I have a new computer and checked it out and passed the test. http://news.yahoo.com/malware-may-knock-thousands-off-internet-monday-063924510--finance.html God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Members phkrause Posted July 6, 2012 Members Posted July 6, 2012 Thanks for posting this. Had heard this the other day and my wife had already checked her computer out. And by the way LHC, the age of the computer has no bearing, its what you have on there for protection that will make the difference. While we're on the subject, what would be your best assessment comparing AVG to Norton as a security program? Thanks P.S. Anyone else who has had a personal experience with these or any other security systems would be appreciated. God blesses! Sorry! Hope this covers the oversight? OzarkWoman Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Personally, I can't stand Norton because it takes over the computer. I use AVG and have never had any problems. Of course, none will catch absolutely everything, but AVG does a good job for me. I use the pay security one though. Quote
Members phkrause Posted July 8, 2012 Members Posted July 8, 2012 LHC, can't tell you which is best, but do know that NU gets the best ratings usually. I do agree with OW that NU takes over, but it can be controlled fairly well. I used to have it on my computers, but it does slow it down. Usually get the stuff my internet provider uses. Right now I have ATnTs "McAfee Security Systems," its very good, I actually think that McAfee got a better rating than NU this last time. The reason NU is usually the best is not just for its internet security, but also for its other capabilities. The others only handle the internet, viruses, etc. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
LifeHiscost Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Thanks all for your input. I especially agree with OzarkWoman's assessment about Norton taking over, but I think that is largely , for me anyway, because I'm at this point not educated well enough in its' program that seems to assume that us people who aren't internet geeks, need the help. And I also liked AVG but chose Norton when my daughter, who has used Norton with her computer for quite a number of years in a business, gave high recommendations of its' benefits. And BTW, there is a button somewhere in your account with Norton that allows one to be notified before Norton makes a move, which I might add is not the recommended protocol. God blesses!
