Facebook: Cheers & Jeers

OK, here is the "game" in this thread. 1. You must say at least one thing you like about Facebook. 2. You must say one thing you don't like about Facebook. 3. You must say one thing you like more about Club Adventist (aka Adventist Forum) than Facebook - i.e. why you keep coming back here.

1. Most of my friends are on Facebook and I get to know them better than if I were only to see them every now and again. Even the girlfriend I had when I was in Kindergarten is one of my FB friends - how cool is that? There use to be a saying "If they could see me now." Well, now they can and do.

2. Don't like all the games and applications. So I stay away from them.

3. I find an exchange of ideas here that I don't on my FB. I don't get too deep into Christian doctrine on my FB page because I have a lot of non-Adventist friends that I want to witness to and not argue with. I also stay out of most political discussions on FB too because I don't want to be arguing with my friends that are not up to it. Here, if people don't want to discuss a subject, they simply don't post in a thread (at least they shouldn't) so we are able to have a healthy exchange of ideas.

1. I was able to reconnect with two very important people from my past and am glad to be able to chat with them now on a daily basis.

2. Politics, sex, and religion. For the duration of this year's political season I have turned off all my friends' status feeds. I just can't bear it.

3. Interesting topics, people I can relate to when I do want to discuss religion. Always someone around. Speaking of which, good to see you posting, Shane! You don't seem to be on much anymore and yours is a name I miss!

1a. I've reconnected with many relatives who I'd never met before, or else hadn't seen for more than 30 years.. 1b. I've met MANY new friends by being a member of PioneerNutz, who I otherwise would never have met..

2a. Timeline (but I fixed that) 2b. stupid ads that have nothing whatsoever to do with any of my interests

3a. I think C/A is an addiction - sometimes I wonder why I come here... but have decided it's because: 3b. I have friends here who aren't on FB.

1. Facebook is more random, and exposes me to a wider range of views and experiences, from funny kitten photos to ideas and arguments to the Higgs Boson (and jokes about same) and so on.

2. I sometimes spend more time on Facebook than I should!

3. I love the permanence of the discussions here and the ability to stretch out. The ephemerality of Facebook discussions has charms of its own, but to get into a deep discussion forum software is far superior... and there are the humans here to back up the software!

I could just about echo Shane's reasons...

1. I have met so many old friends, some from my first year at school, and it is

the best way I have to keep in touch with my daughter, and I can see pictures of the grandkids.

2. If it ain't broke don't fix it....don't like the way they try to force "upgrades" at me, and also stay away from the apps.

3. Much more depth of discussion here...on many levels and topics.

Facebook has it's uses. When we were in Norway, it was our only link to the USA. Nice to connect with old friends.

Don't care for the games, and occasional narcissism.

CA is a potluck, Facebook is a county fair.

Shane & Nan have stated most of my reasons, pro & con for both.

More years than I care to count I began FB and then CA when I was living in motels, usually in different cities, most days of the week. Motel rooms do not offer much companionship so fb & ca became my "family"

I don't care for the games & most applications on FB and don't take or have the time to become involved. I hear from and see pictures of family and friends from all over the world that probably I would otherwise have contact. I even first read about my granddaughters engagement on FB. When I responded she immediately telephoned ... Oh Grandma........... LOL

I enjoy some of the conversatons on CA and have friends here that are very dear to me.

On CA I find it heart breaking when I read discouraging arguments or what appear to be attacks on the Adventist church and usually avoid them.

I love the safety and shelter of the Women's Forum and hope to see it continue to develop in a way which will support and enourage our sisters. Luv you fellows also, but you sometimes deal with issues different than we women. At times you-all can be intimidating, and I am not intimidated easily. :)

I'm banned.

That's another reason I like FB....I don't get banned....and people on FB seem to be more forgiving of one's ideas, statements, and feelings if they aren't in agreement.

1-Reconnecting with family, friends and meeting new ones.

2-Don't care for all the games and all the invites to all the games I don't care to join, over, and over, and over, and over, etc.

3-I just like C/A more than FB, no other reason. The only thing I dislike about some on C/A is there insistance(sp) that they know more than you do about religion, and especially about politics as that thread proves over and over again, and how it continues to show how it divides those that you know have more class than there comments seem to say.

I am here most everyday but do not post as much as I use to. I am going through some personal issues (which I shared in the US Politics forum) and that adjusted my priorities dramatically so I don't have as much time to spend online as before. That may or may not change. If you are not already one of my FB friends you can send me an invite. I know I have a lot of C/A friends on FB but often times I don't know what their C/A usernames are. I try to post something on there at least once each day.

Wow. That sounds pretty intimidating to me. Women banning women from the Women's forum. Or do you have a male moderator to keep you women in line?

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Not sure who the adm is anymore. ... but it's a small snapshot of how women can treat other women...which is why I have very few women friends I trust.. (I have some, but not many.)

I do enjoy playing the facebook games, I have a strong support team there.

I don't like how you have to bug your friends in order to play the games.

I get my religious support here, and I feel like the prayer warriors are on this board.

Why banned?

1. Facebook has the best online pool game anywhere

2. People that I never want to see again seem to track me down and try and talk to me.

3. C/A.... I have grown to really like some of the people here. Also a touch of morbid fascination with the belief system.

Why banned?

I am apparently unwanted. Because I am "toxic"...like toxic waste... best to eliminate.. perhaps best done personally rather than corporately. It hurts less.

I like Facebook because I've been having a hoot connecting with high school alumni. I've also met great people all over the world.

What I don't like... hmm... people who try to sell me stuff

What I really like about this place- the support of friends and variation in ideas

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I am apparently unwanted.

It may only be an appearance Pam - they can be deceiving. Sometimes we're 'toxic' by our own doing, sometimes 'toxic' on behalf of the truth. Jesus was always in the second boat, a safe but sometimes lonely place to be.

We shouldn't place much stock in virtual 'friends' until we know them in the flesh - it's a huge social problem for upcoming generations (present-day society) who make decisions based on a video feed, running their emotions up and down a ladder.

In just a few years we've redefined "friend".

"Israel in 4 B.C had no mass communication". Jesus did a better job on foot. - "Who touched my garment?"
