Woody Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Does anyone know if this works? Or if there is something better? http://www.ultimatebarkcontrol.com/ds_pro.htm#page=Main-Tab Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dottie Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I've bought a dog barking deterrent. It is a collar which gives the dog a shock when they bark. It scared my Aussie, because it was so sudden and he couldn't get away from it, so he kept barking. I had to get him and take it off. It probably would have worked if I had left it on so he could get used to it. There are some collars which are adjustable for the size of the dog. I bought mine from Drs. Foster & Smith, Online. Hope this helps. Prices can be less than what you posted. Dottie Quote
Members phkrause Posted July 12, 2012 Members Posted July 12, 2012 Have no idea if it does or not. All I can tell you is we did buy something similiar for one of our dogs. He didn't bark anymore, but I guess it bother him enough that whenever we took it off him he would find it and wound up chewing it up till it didn't work anymore. hahaha hehehe hohoho Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Moderators Gerr Posted July 13, 2012 Moderators Posted July 13, 2012 If you don't want a barking dog, get one that doesn't. There is a breed. It's called benji, if I recall correctly. But then, what's the point of getting a dog? That's the dog's language. That would like getting a cat that doesnt meow, a cow that doesn't moo. Quote
Woody Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 WOODY well are you thinking about getting it for your dog? dgrimm60 Yes I am dgrimm. But before I bought it - I wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted July 13, 2012 Administrators Posted July 13, 2012 There is also the "Shush" command. Ours obey it at about a 50% success rate but it is getting better. Usually all I need to do is offer the non-barking dog a treat and say, "Good shush, Coquette!!" to bring the others on task. Our trainer gave us also some helpful paperwork on excessive barking. It does take some doing and the help of a half dozen volunteers or so but will help with the barking that occurs when someone comes to visit. Woody Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 I do have a serious problem. One of my neighbors threatened to sue me if my dog didn't stop barking. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted July 13, 2012 Administrators Posted July 13, 2012 Yes, and in some places there are by-laws restricting excessive barking. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
wheelcat Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I bought a similar one...USELESS. I use a can of compressed air. After a while they stopped barking when I showed them the can, and its cheap Quote
Tallmark Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I would advise hiring a trainer. The little you spend on him/her will pay in spades. It's more about training us than the dog. We have 2 Jack Russell Terriers and I wouldn't have that thing at my house. Besides, what happens when you're out somewhere like at a park? Are you going to bring that contraption wherever you go with your dog? I think not. Just my $.02 Quote
nuff sed Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Maybe the Benji doesn't "Bark" but you might sure get annoyed when he 'yodels'. ... It would appear to me that the model 'interuptor"described would be more humane than giving the dog a shock each time he barks. I had a smaller hand model somewhat similar that I loaned to my neighbor. The dogs next door to his house used to crash the fence and bark whenever anyone would get near it. It took only two days of him "hitting the button" before they got the message and quit. You can buy the smaller model for a lot less than $79.95 but the downside is that you would have to use it manually each time whereas the more expensive model is supposed to work as much time as you leave it on whether you are there or not. Woody Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Benji's can bark. It just isn't very loud. But I am not going to give up on my dog. I just don't want him to upset the neighbors. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Planey Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Benji? Or basenji? Just asking... Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Moderators Gerr Posted July 14, 2012 Moderators Posted July 14, 2012 Yes, you are correct. I had the feeling 'benji' didn't sound/look quite right when I typed it. Quote
bonnie Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I have used the anti-bark and the electronic shock collar. The electronic shock worked the best on mine We have a 80 lb beagle-shepherd cross. We could not break her from leaving the yard or barking like crazy when another dog would walk by our yard. The collar I bought has four levels. The first three have a beep as a warning then a prolonged irritating buzz close to their ear. The third level stopped her incessant barking.Telling her no and hitting the button on the third level cured her in a couple of days. Not sure how she would respond when we were gone,I left in the car and came back on foot. When she barked I hit the third level and that didn't stop her. It took hitting the 4th level(shock) twice. No more barking unless someone comes to the door and we don't discipline her for that. To keep her from running off it took the 4th level. The first time I hit and released it worked for a couple of days. The next time she took off and ran a couple of blocks.I went after her in the car and kept hitting and releasing all the way home. That was five years ago.She doesn't go near the road nor does she bark. We have a very headstrong little morkie. We have a smaller version for her. Her barking and other bad behaviors have all been quickly corrected with the first three levels. It did take the 4th level to convince her not to chase other dogs walking by.They learn to quickly respond to the word no or stop when they know that the next will be that irritating beep and incessant buzzing so close to their ear. We did check it out on ourselves when we got it.The shock is throughly unpleasant and scary but not what you could call painful Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
