Woody Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Okay - some of you may think this is not a theological topic. But - I amazingly found it is. I was talking to someone yesterday who honestly believers that "hen pecking" is a justification for divorce. I was rather shocked. But then this IS what the world is coming to. The institution of marriage has been dealt a severe blow. It now means little to be married. So - back to the issue of 'hen pecking' ... what say you? Is it grounds for divorce? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Gibs Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I've seen hen pecked husbands and I've seen hen pecked wives. Hmm, does anyone have to be a hen pecked wife or husband? 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
Administrators Gail Posted July 16, 2012 Administrators Posted July 16, 2012 Is it a form of abuse? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Is it a form of abuse? That it may be. Every marriage has abuse though. But is it a biblical reason for divorce? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
olger Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hen pecking is not a biblical reason for divorce! It is the waymark of a relationship out of balance, that needs to come back under the blessing of God. Psalms 34 states that no man (or woman) should render "evil for evil." In the case of hen pecking, the wife is disrespecting her husband and using pride and or anger to control him. Her unGodly dominance and hostility need to be resolved Biblically, and the man needs to resolve any issues on his side that are contributing to the imbalanced relationship. When this happens before God, people can start loving one another from the heart in the way that God intended. This will bring strength and peace into the realtionship, and make them more useful for God. Divorce? No. Not the answer. Resolving the issues that are locking the relationship is the answer. rejoice always, G Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Woody Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Well said Og. But there is a movement in the church to set an unbiblical standard for divorce. They want to add Hen Pecking to the list of conditions that warrent divorce. It is just the weakening of marriage that the devil is trying to promote. Might I add - that most of those promoting this kind of belief - are women. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
olger Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I agree. There are even some women in Ohio, like you describe. But God's Word is not changed easily (Revelation 22). The solution remains that people should resolve issues (we did years ago) and the Lord will sanctify them. Marriage is a blessing. For better. For worse. For keeps. G Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

Man takes care of his issues. Woman takes care of hers. I might add that IF a man takes care of his issues, the woman's issues might resolve on their own. And, contrariwise, IF a woman takes care of her issues, the man's issues might resolve on their own. Quote
Woody Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Quote: For better. For worse. For keeps. Good Point Og. Many today feel that the moment they feel some of the 'worse' ... out they go. And also - if the 'better' is not better enough - then they are out the door. Just look at what this does to our families. Scripture is clear on the marriage issue. But adding 'Hen Pecking' is just eroding and 'pecking' away at the foundation of marriage and families. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. olger Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Good point Cricket. Men need to set the tone for the family. We are responsible to lead the family in a God-glorifying direction. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
olger Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I told a couple once, "I want whoever is in the right to apologize first." They stumbled over themselves apologizing... :) Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Gail Posted July 16, 2012 Administrators Posted July 16, 2012 I'm sure glad you have chosen the now gender-neutral word, hen, to describe the pecking that's going on. This kind of bullying is not unique to any one gender! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 there IS a lotta pecking a goin's on. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
