cricket Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Jefferson City, Mo (KSDK) -- The Missouri drought conditions have led the U.S. Department of Agriculture secretary to designate all 114 counties as primary natural disaster areas, following a request by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. A disaster designation allows eligible farmers to be considered for assistance from the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), including FSA emergency loans. This has been the driest summer I can remember in Missouri. Our grass is dead--haven't mowed the lawn since the week before Father's Day. The flowers are dead, the trees are withering and the birds don't really want to sing. How's it in "your neck of the woods"? Quote
Planey Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Here in eastern Australia we are currently experiencing the la Nina part of our ENSO climate pattern, so we are getting regular useful rain. Being winter it is lovely and mild. In the last 10-15 years or so we have had some quite disastrous droughts, the El Nino part of the weather cycle. Liz Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 It's hot here as usual, but we've gotten more rain than normal. So allergies are running high. Usually we have high mold, but it is really high now--never thought it possible without high humidity! Quote

LifeHiscost Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Just a harbinger of things to come. Quote: How's it in "your neck of the woods"? It's dry here (west coast U.S.) but no more than usual. And daily we get the Water of Life. No worries. God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Quote: Are you one of those people who think that "gee-whiz" is a swear word??? While it was in the generation of my father, I can remember when "swell" was considered a swear word. Consider what might make that an inappropriate remark. The word "gee" is a shortened reference to Jesus Who is a whiz at what He does. Much slang can be traced to a disregard or actual ridicule or antagonism of the recognition of Jesus as Lord, or at the least, of His right over dominion of human kind. This of course might be considered , but when the "Water of Life" is absent, Quote: dry, dry, dry! becomes a very relevant topic for the children of God. God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

cricket Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Someone lock this thread. Please. It is ridiculous. People here are offended ALL THE TIME. If we deleted every thread where someone was offended, we'd have NOTHING left. Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted July 21, 2012 Administrators Posted July 21, 2012 Likewise, if we locked every thread when someone got their knickers in a knot, or as in this case completely misconstrued what someone else said, we would have to lock up pretty much everything. So putting on my pointy moderator hat, I shall make an official ruling on this tempest in a teapot. Neil's post stays. It is not vulgar in the context of a beekeeper exploiting and hiring out the hive of worker bees - his girls. (Worker bees are female - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worker_bee ) And an allowable dictionary meaning of "pimp" as a verb is "to exploit". British and Australian English use the word quite differently. And in contemporary vernacular the word has much wider menaing and usage than the procurement of prostitutes. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pimping So there you have it. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. Maybe a little time in the lock-up/deletion stages would do some good. Like I said, we wouldn't have anything left. And that might be a good thing. At the very least, people would learn what is offensive to others. Quote

Such troll like behavior needs to be reported to the authorities... Like everything else in existence except The Lord, language evolves. I still cannot stand the word,I despise it, but almost everybody I know now uses the four letter f___ word frequently. I don't. I think it is obnoxious to use it, even though the activity it designates is of necessity done by every one, absolutely no exceptions, often. The way I was brung up, we just didn't say it. Really, no one used it more than rarely when I was a kid. Of course, I mean the four letter word meaning to pass gas. As for the other four letter f___ word, prude or ole fuddy duddy or not, it is never used in my presence by anyone but once. Then the perpetrator, usually a young person testing boundaries, gets a serious case of burned ears. Language does evolve, however "pimp" seems not to have any real value for general conversation except when it means the illegal activity, viz: < from another online forum > Kids are using the word "pimp" to describe things, clothes, cars, or people that they like. "That outfit is pimp" or "He's got a pimpin ride" "I'm all pimped our the the dance" "She's so pimp". I looked the word up to inform my daughter what it really means. Reply · 1 · · October 10, 2011 at 4:24am Quite aside from the dictionary meaning, "pimp" is not a pretty word at all. But who's over-reacting? Me on hearing the first, or even the second f___ word, or others grousing about words that are arguably less offensive? All of us could write or speak volumes about this topic, but to me the subject is just slightly less counter-productive than disparaging certain choices of music in church. As for me and my circle, young or old, we tend to speak the way we perceive angels do. Agape Quote JawgeFromJawja Pro 5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
