Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Does anyone know the consequences for not getting Building Permits for a small deck? What can they do ??? come and tear out the deck? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
bonnie Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Does anyone know the consequences for not getting Building Permits for a small deck? What can they do ??? come and tear out the deck? Here they can charge you a penalty or fine along with the original cost of the permit. If you refuse to pay it the city can place a lien on your property Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Whoops. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
jasd Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Should be the same anywhere... Build the deck putting a few small all-purpose wheels or skids under it - then just shove it up against the house - leveling and bracing it, but leaving it unanchored to the house. Last I heard, nearly all jurisdictions (city, county, State) will, at the most, charge a small yearly fee - as they would a parked travel trailer. (beats applying and paying for a permit and putting up with all the inspectors afterwards) Then again, I don't live in an annexed area, just county laws apply to me, which allow no more than six roofed structures or such on the property. And, then again, I just let it all fall down around me - as I'm checking out - goin' to 'another country'. However, best procedure is to ask the proper authorities. Good luck. Quote
Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Thanks jasd - you've given me some sneaky ideas. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 It's a 45 minute drive to the county seat. Just the drive alone will cost me bundles. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
bonnie Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 It's a 45 minute drive to the county seat. Just the drive alone will cost me bundles. You get your permits from the city hall of the town you live in.At least that is what we do here. Many things you can apply and pay for online with city/government offices Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Thanks Bonnie for that tip. That will save me. But are you sure - I don't live in the city limits. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
bonnie Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Thanks Bonnie for that tip. That will save me. But are you sure - I don't live in the city limits. We lived 5 miles out of town.Went to the city hall of our town and obtained a building permit for a new roof. What ever your town your mailing address is for I would think would grant the permit If you are building the deck yourself it is up to you to obtain it,if not the party doing the construction can do so Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 I don't think there IS such a thing as a town hall in the city I have my address. It is to tiny. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Not to mention - I live in a different county compared to the city of my address. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
bonnie Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I don't think there IS such a thing as a town hall in the city I have my address. It is to tiny. Check the nearest town to you for a city hall and ask them where to go for a building permit.I am sure they can tell you Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. olger Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Ask for the Building Regulation Department. Most counties have them, you may live in one that does not. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Woody Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 THanks Og. But do I go to the county office of the city that is my address or the county that I live in. LOL. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dottie Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I would think that you would go to the office of the county in which you live. Your address is determined by the USPS, not your governing municipality. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Does anyone know the consequences for not getting Building Permits for a small deck? What can they do ??? come and tear out the deck? Worse case scenario is that they have the public utility company shut off your utilities until you pull the permit and pay the fine they impose. I know an architect that was building a dog house for his mother in his drive way. He was going to load it up and take it to her house when he was done. A city inspector came by and fined him for building without a permit. He just blew off the citation until he received notice from the power company of the date his power would be shut off as per the order of the municipality due to building violations. Needless to say, he pulled the permit and avoided getting his power shut off. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
olger Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Shane, that is LEGALIZED THEFT Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Woody Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Thanks all. I think one way or another - I will find a way and a place to get a permit. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
