GRAND FORKS, B.C. - An 11-year-old boy is dead in British Columbia's southern Interior after trees crushed his summer camp cabin during a severe storm.

Police say the accident took place Friday afternoon at the Pines Bible Camp in Grand Forks, B.C., 523 kilometres east of Vancouver and near the border with the United States.

They say that during the storm, winds snapped off trees, causing two to fall through the roof of a hut, crushing the boy who was inside.

Police say several other children were also injured during the incident.

About 65 children were attending the camp at the time, and the RCMP say victim services has called in counsellors to help the boy's family and other youths.

Police have not yet released the name of the boy who they say is a resident of the nearby community of Christina Lake, B.C.

On a personal note a friend of mine is a volunteer at Pines Bible Camp and was there last night when this occured. I saw him today and he was a wreck of a man. For a guy that has seen death as a part of his day to day life when he was a special forces soldier - this really got to him. He helped get the 5 injured children clear of the building and spent the night with the rest of the kids at the Gospel chapel just up the street.

Many parts of our town were without electricity until mid day today and some parts may still be blocked by the sheer number of fallen trees.

Oh that is sad EC. Even though we might have seen many grownup deaths, when its a child, I think it effects us differently.

Oh EC that is so very sad. I am glad to know that counselors were brought in to help the other childrn as they deal with their grief procss.

This is one of those times when the question of "Where was God when this happened?" comes to mind. One of the best answers that ever came to my mind, not original to me, was, "The same place He was when His Son suffered death as a result of the burden of our sins falling on Him".

God blesses! peace

Lift Jesus up!!

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
