Are men and Women equal?

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Men-and-women-are-they-equal-or-not-17085.shtml

The matter of equality between women and men has however became an obsolete and even taboo subject. This issue is now part of the social conversations, listed among subjects like "Corruption" or "Global Warming" or "Money doesn't bring happiness" and so on. The subject has been debated so frequently throughout the passing years, that now it is only a matter of principle, serving as subject of conversation among the ones who feel like uttering their opinions. That's pretty much of what I'm going to do next.

First of all, I find it imperative to emphasize the characteristics that make women and men so different. It's more than obvious that by nature's default, women and men were given different features. In fact, people are having their own particularities that make each individual unique. Only known facts so far, but what I need to say is that these natural differences can't be allowed to be the reason of social discrimination. For example, it's normal for a woman not to be wanted as a carpenter, as women have less physical strength. But if the woman not only that she proves the opposite, but she also proves to be talented for the job, I can't see any reason for her not to becomea carpenter. This kind of discriminations can't be allowed when it comes to natural differences between men and women.

And if the education system has become more and more efficient, providing women the opportunity to learn and specialize in many fields, statistics still say that the number of excellent specialists is smaller for women than for men. But we must ask ourselves why this is happening Could women be less native gifted? Or could it be the social pressure that doesn't allow them to express themselves? Or may the statistics research have been made by the men who do not wish to lose their supremacy? It's difficult to answer And even if women have better scores when it comes to school, men are always ranked better and have a higher prestige. For example, a male engineer is often more appreciated than a female engineer. This is happening because people are guided by stereotype thinking when judging men and women. It's true that stereotype thinking will always be present and will always make the mass of people an easy target for manipulation, but when it comes to the relation men - women, this way of thinking does nothing but putting the image of women in society in dark shadow. This is obviously wrong!

So, work is still discriminating for the two sexes, even if the discrimination is not an official one. For example, if the level of women's working activity has increased since 1970, they are still the victims of unemployment, of bad jobs, more than men are anyway. These inequalities are also present in the private life, as women are the victims of a pervert social progress. For example, even if women are more and more independent in their couple life, there are more and more single and divorced women due to that. Why? Well, there are many reasons. One of them could be the fact that working women don't have time for a successful private life. Another reason could be the fact that some men feel intimidated by some women's qualities and can't stand being inferior to them. At the same time there is a fragile compatibility between motherhood and career and the family policies that exist encourage women to give up working for a domestic way of living. This way, women find themselves forced to give up their independence.

But even a family life without having children means compromise to women. It's natural for the women who have a full-time job not to have the strength to do all that housewives do. The woman's duties at home are more numerous than the men's, but at the same time, the equality between women and men force them to work the same time and way at their jobs. This situation is due to the fact that there are still a lot of men who think in the terms of the patriarchate system.

There are also men who treat women socially right, but this situation isn't quite the happiest, as they somehow forget their manners or act thinking something like: " If we're equal and we do our own laundry, why should I hold her coat or open the door for her?!" This is also an abnormal situation. While in the first case the problem was that women were equal to men only when it came to work, in the second one the issue is about the equality that takes away women's right of being respected as women.

In conclusion, what the feminist movements have achieved is not all good. It's obvious that they didn't only establish the normal equality between the sexes, but also the abnormal one the one that gives women a lot of issues to solve.

Could you elaborate on that Gerry.

What did you think of the article?

Now keep in mind - this is in TownHall - so you can't use Ellen White.

Excellent article/post. So true. Another place where women are discriminated against is senior management. Men always get there because of their "competence"; and women get these because they either "sl__p their way ...." or they ar "Bees". Funny it's usually men that say these things.

Not only does our church have a woman Pastor; but I have a woman for a boss. Both great ladies.

Isn't it interesting where the placement of the "male" and "female" symbols are? thinking

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Having agreed with Gerry about them not be the same! What does it mean to be equal? I believe that is the question that's looking to be answered! Is that the same as complementary?

So was Eve Adam’s equal?

Yes and no. She was his spiritual equal and, unlike the animals “suitable for him.” But she was not equal in that she was his “helper.’ God did not create man and woman in an undifferentiated way, and their mere maleness and femaleness identify their respective roles. A man just by virtue of his manhood is called to lead for God. A woman just by virtue of her womanhood is called to help for God. The very fact that God created human beings in the dual modality of male and female cautions us in an unqualified equation of the two sexes. This profound and beautiful distinction is not a biological triviality or accident. God wants men to be men and women to be women. A man trying to be a woman repulses us, and rightly so. It is perverse. The same is true when a woman attempts be a masculine.

To ask if men and women, or any two groups, are equal is stupid. Equal at what? The Olympic Games is on at the moment. Everyone knows figures show men are better at physical feats. Apparently a man is 35% stronger than a woman of equal weight when it comes to lifting weights. There's no argument against this.

When it comes to such comparisons, we deal with statistical groups. In any statistic composed of a large enough number of entities chosen randomly enough, there will always be outliers - the very short men and very tall men when it comes to a statistic about the height of men. The true moron will revert to outliers to make his point. Take into account that I'm talking about averages.

Men and women differ. In general, women are more emotional and less rational than men. Rational fields, like engineering and mathematics, are dominated by men. Women do about as well as men in the arts and other non-rational fields, like theology, psychology, philosophy and the human "sciences."

Women are by far better looking than men. Some of them look like angels. So, in the looks department they leave us far behind.

This is a stupid topic.

This is a stupid topic.

What's stupid to one person is obviously not stupid to another. If the topic is something you don't care for, than why even post? Just ignore it and keep negative remarks out of it.

I am in agreement with a few of your points though. Have a happysabbath

The problem here is quite simple actually. "Equal" does not equal nor is it the same as "same". Equality is not about sameness or being identical. It is beyond obvious that men and women are not the same. So arguing the differences to undermine or disprove the need for equality is entirely missing the point.

Equality is about equal standing, rights and opportunity to be exercised without regard to the obvious differences. True equality allows us to celebrate and be strengthened by our diversity. We collectively maximize our potential and effectiveness with true equality.

It is very much like, and in fact related to, the issue of unity. Unity is not uniformity. We remain united in, and notwithstanding, our diversity. A group united is strengthened by and is richer because of its diversity. We collectively maximize our potential and effectiveness with unity.

Unity cannot be achieved without equality. And equality is impossible without a spirit of unity.

Both require love and Christlike forbearance.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

Are these the words of a communist or a Baha'ist?

So, I have a question regarding the principles of applying phrases like the one Olger questioned....

If we take the words of Jesus-

"Do unto others as you would have other do to you"

and find out that not only is it very similar to Buddha-

Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama, c. 563 - c. 483 B.C.) made this principle one of the cornerstones of his ethics in the 5th century BCE. It occurs in many places and in many forms throughout the Tripitaka.

Comparing oneself to others in such terms as "Just as I am so are they, just as they are so am I," he should neither kill nor cause others to kill.

—Sutta Nipata 705

One who, while himself seeking happiness, oppresses with violence other beings who also desire happiness, will not attain happiness hereafter.—Dhammapada 10. Violence

Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.—Udanavarga 5:18

Putting oneself in the place of another, one should not kill nor cause another to kill.....

Perhaps you would prefer to attribute the saying to the The Writings of the Bahá'í Faith........

while encouraging everyone to treat others as they would treat themselves, go further by introducing the concept of preferring others before oneself:

O SON OF MAN! Deny not My servant should he ask anything from thee, for his face is My face; be then abashed before Me.—Bahá'u'lláh[33]

Blessed is he who preferreth his brother before himself.—Bahá'u'lláh[34][35]

And if thine eyes be turned towards justice, choose thou for thy neighbour that which thou choosest for thyself.—Bahá'u'lláh[36][37]

Ascribe not to any soul that which thou wouldst not have ascribed to thee, and say not that which thou doest not.

—Bahá'u'lláh[38][39][40]

Beware lest ye harm any soul, or make any heart to sorrow; lest ye wound any man with your words, be he known to you or a stranger, be he friend or foe.—`Abdu'l-Bahá[41]

I wonder how far we would go to discourage words of wisdom simply by attrributing the worlds of a man to the word of God....

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.
