Moderators LynnDel Posted May 20, 2005 Moderators Posted May 20, 2005 I have a theory, and I'm hoping someone can tell me if I'm right or wrong. My theory is that e-card websites are actually e-mail address collectors. You send someone an e-card, and your and their address is then sold to all kinds of lists. What do you think about that theory? Having developed that theory, I stopped sending e-cards quite awhile ago, and I've stopped opening those I receive. Our joint e-mail address was clean of spam until November when I received a smattering of e-cards, none of which I opened, and now that address is getting spam the subject lines of which I choose not to repeat. I've had my own personal e-mail address, different than the one mentioned above, for the past two years, and I've not given that address to anyone without asking them not to send e-cards, and up to now I've not had any spam. Today, however, I received 4 e-cards <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. Will see if any spam is forthcoming as a result. Reporting from the trenches, LD Quote LD
Amelia Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 IMHO if the site doesnt state that they do not sell your info, then dont use them.
