There's a real fine line between those two. True repentance will heal regret. We will begin to see the experience from the perspective of truth. "You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.."

It helps to accept what happened, and go forward. Accepting the event/decision doesn't necessarily mean that it was a good decision, it just means that we give up hope of changing our past. We forgive others who have hurt us, we forgive ourselves for making a stupid decision, and we "forgive" God if we are blaming him in any way for our circumstances.

One should always regret deeply the old life, the longer it remains strong in you the better the schoolmaster to keep you from reverting back.

Never should there be any regrets of the old life given up, that shows you still cherish things of another master and your new Master, Jesus Christ is a jealous Master and you must be His one and only.

As long as one can look at the things they have done in life and learn from them, then there should never be any regrets. Your history makes you the person you are, it builds your character. You can't change any action you have taken, its done, its finished and the damage or the good has been done. If you have done things that you are less than proud of all you can do is learn from it and try to take what action you can to repair what damages have been done.

I look at that a little differently. I believe we do have regrets, but we need to learn from them. In that way I do agree we either have no regrets or we leave them in the past.

I guess its a little in how you define regrets. I wish I had finished school, never started smoking, never gotten into drugs etc. But then all those things took me down the road to meeting my wife which led to four beautiful children.

So just like you said, we can leave them in the past once we learn from them.
