I don't have access to the political forum...So, I can't post this there...I know that this can turn into a very bad political debate...I know that this can generate into name calling and a whole host of destructive and non-building of friendships....I hope it doesn't do so....

After reading this article, I want to know one thing...

How can this atheist know Jesus as I know Him? How can the American Christian be lost to being a compassionate person? How can the American Christian not want to help the poor, to help the common man, let alone ignore the facts and reject healthcare for the common man?

How Would Jesus Vote?

Oh brother.....

are you attempting to suppress the article that I posted [and I didn't use the """" marks]...Are you trying to avoid the question of where Christian responsibility and national healthcare coincide?

Are you trying to not answer the question that I put to this forum- Why does this woman, an atheist no less, know my Jesus better than many on this BBS?

***IF*** I wanted to, I could turn this partisan...but Redwood, I would rather put the screws to you and ask you to answer the question...

how does this atheist know Jesus better than you?

Great article Neil, she seems to be pretty on with her points. I'd say England is not the only country wondering the same things, the other countries also don't understand us either. Thanks for posting.

ps:How come you don't have access anymore? thought that you did!

I have removed the quoted material (not allowed) and substituted a link (allowed here) to the article. THose who did not read it while it was up I would urge to follow the link and read it carefully before posting. Keep this discussion to the point raised by Neil and avoid the political.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

It is mentioned in the article that the atheist writing the article was once a devoted Christian, so if that is true then they could have a pretty good handle on the character of Jesus.

Sorry, EC, but every atheist on this board over the last 15 years has misread the character of Christ...This lady has NOT done that...In fact, every religious fanatic who has an ax to grind misses the character of Christ....

She may not understand the doctrines...she may not know about the Sabbath or the state of the dead....but she gets the character of Christ..She knows His humility, His kindnes, His compassion for others..

How come she gets it? How come she knows and other 'bible thumpers ' here don't get it? You guys have better info on Jesus. than she does...You have evidence that supports your belief, but she has gotten it without that 'extra' evidence.....

You ready for the hard question, EC? How come this atheistic woman gets the character of Christ, but you ....you don't?

Well Neil, it looks like many Christians don't either. To me it does seem like EC does, even though he might like want to admit to it. Look at Ghandi, he did, were it not for so called other Christians he might've become one himself.

I don't know if I do or do not get the character of Christ. But those are the characteristics I percieve in him as well. In short this is how I sum up his message of how we should live -

Chill out, be good to others, be good to your self. Live the gift of life to its fullest, be kind, be generous, love, laugh and don't sweat the little details. Let each find their own way and don't deter their ability to do all of the above. However when kickin butt is the only option left - do what you have to do.

Now that is how I percieve the character of Christ. Why this lady gets it I would say is because she is not an atheist that has an axe to grind with Christianity. She just does not believe in it as the end all of beliefs. She can read the story of the life and words of Jesus and take from the message of a wise and enlightened man, words that all people - Atheist, Pagan, Heathen, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian alike can take a great many lessons from. In short she has a mind that is honest and open.

It will be interesting to see how many atheists, etc. find themselves waking up in heaven...and how many of the children of the kingdom wake finding themselves in the other place.

Not a pretty picture.

I think maybe we should be more interested in trying to show what Jesus is like, if we 'get it' than in worrying about why some do and some don't.

I agree teresa, it wont be a pretty picture at all. And I don't think they will be waking up at all.
