Why this waste?

When Mary poured the ointment on Jesus' feet, the disciples- especially Judas- were indignant.

Her extravagant gift to the Saviour was seen as a waste. But Jesus told them to leave her alone and He accepted her.

Do we find that in the church today- those who knock the gifts of others to God because they are not how we prefer they should be?

Do we knock their offerings of praise because the music is not right? or their belief is not perfectly full of truth? Or because their gift is costly and worldly like Mary's?

I thought there is food for thought. I might need to bite my tongue more. Am I criticizing the gift because I don't see the heart that is doing the offering?

Judas loved money....He coveted money. After all he handed over Christ for thirty pieces of silver.

"The Pharisees, who loved money" (Luke 16:14) Everything they did was for their advancement. Same with Judas....Apparently he missed the warning:

1 Tim 6:9 But those who have a desire for wealth are falling into danger, and are taken as in a net by a number of foolish and damaging desires, through which men are overtaken by death and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: and some whose hearts were fixed on it have been turned away from the faith (Jesus), and been wounded with unnumbered sorrows.

In other words they have given up Christ.

Well, in this old world, we need money. It's what we do to get the money that constitutes "the love of money". If we place money first, over people, then we love money....This is not loving our neighbor as ourselves.

I think that the other disciples still had a problem with Mary, even though Christ had forgiven her. They still saw her as a prostitute. I'm in agreement with Robert about Judas. He only thought of the money and what it could've been used for. As we know he and the rest of the Disciples thought that Jesus would take over the Roman's, so he obviously thought that the money would come in handy to help Jesus become King of the throne and oust those roman pigs.

The difference perhaps is that Judas probably did not appreciate or even feel a need for forgiveness like Mary probably did- even though he was a thief.
