nuff sed Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Have you ever been to Pica? It's a nice Oasis. I tried to show some of the church members there how they could grow superior BIG mangos on trees only 20 ft. high instead of the small fiberous ones they grow on trees 60 ft. high but they wouldn't listen. If they had they could be growing the best mangos in all of Chile 34 years later. My sons attended school in Chillan during the years '77,78. Nuff Sed Quote

Nic Samojluk Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Welcome, Juan! I can relate to what you are experiencing. I grew up in Argentina and was interested in learning the English language, but had no one to practice it until we emigrated to the U.S. Of course, there was no Internet then. Now you can chat with people anywhere in the world. Tell me: How’s the weather there? We are being barbecued here in California lately. The other day we had a temperature of 114 F in San Bernardino, which is probably equivalent to 45 degrees in the centigrade scale. I wish I were in Chile right now instead. ...Are most people in Chile pro-life? How about Adventists? Are they pro-life or pro-choice? Quote
juan felipe Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 hello! the weather is unstable, it rains very hard right now, currently Chile is going through a period of great change where popular people greatly influence the population, abortion is illegal in Chile, but not a side issue that there is a bar here called "morning after pill" which is a method of abortion, the fetus is a living being. Adventists as to life is first. in Chile the issue that much discucion is homosexuality, personally am not in favor that they can marry and adopt children, and is basically the position that has the church, you see the issue there? Quote
Nic Samojluk Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Juan, I am glad to hear that abortion is still illegal in Chile. This is the way it was in the entire world for two thousand years. Then the sexual revolution took place in the United States in the 60’s and it was followed by the legalization of abortion a decade later. Unfortunately, the Adventist Church led in this change when our church allowed our hospitals the freedom to profit from the killing of the unborn with impunity. I know this for a fact, because this was the topic of my doctoral dissertation. We need to pray for our church and for the innocent unborn babies that are doomed to be either poisoned or brutally dismembered. Regarding homosexuality, I must say that there is a large number of Adventists who are siding with homosexuals. I haven’t studied this topic very much, so I prefer to defer my opinion to a later date; nevertheless, it seems rather clear that the Bible does condemn such practice. Can you tell us the name of the city you live in and the local church you frequent? Do you belong to a sizable congregation or is it rather small? I am a member of the Loma Linda University Church which has nearly six thousand members. Nevertheless, I am still homesick for the small church I was baptized in nearly seven decades ago in Argentina. Quote
juan felipe Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 hi, well I have something very little studied subject and homosexuality is not allowed, clear that the issue deserves a more thorough study. My church is small but also is the mother church of the district of the city talcahuano you belong, my church is called "nueva esperanza" should be approximately 100 members. There had enough churches in this area and expect to grow more. should be a completely different experience to belong to a large church, greetings. Quote

Nic Samojluk Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Juan, Can you tell us something about yourself? Are you a recent convert to Adventism, or do you come from an Adventist family? Are you a young person, or an adult? Are you perhaps a student? What do you do for a living? And tell us something about life in Chile. Is the economy good or bad? Who is the president of Chile now? Do you live close to Chillan, where there is an Adventist university, I believe? Quote
juan felipe Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 hello, well my parents are born in a home aventistas adventistasta, baptize me as a child. I have 20 years I am currently studying Civil Engineering Computer Science, I live in Talcahuano is near scream. few years ago I lived in Chillan, it is true that there is a university is a very beautiful place students come from all over the world. life in Chile I think is good, we're fine financially crisis hardly affected us, our president is Sebastian Pinera, I like life in Chile, not at all that if the chile capital (Santiago) do not like. Southern Chile is beautiful I recommend if you ever have the opportunity to travel to know some places in Chile (Pucon-desert-isla de pascua...) and I can tell you from America? I have always been interested to know usa. regards Quote
Nic Samojluk Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Juan, I am glad to hear that the financial situation in Chile is good. I wish I could say the same about the U.S. I had a real estate business for many years, but had to close it because the values of homes and apartments went down all of a sudden and there seems no hope of recovering. * * * Quote
Gordon1 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 The 'leaders' are puppets - a nice face to win popular support - the veneer of democracy. Of course experience counts - experience schmoozing with the boards of Goldman Sachs, etc. Where are God's people authorized to support (vote for) these candidates? Quote
