Brilliant thought by a brilliant man.

Question here though Gerry, why is it ok for a Christian to make mocking comments about other religions, but its not ok for members of those other religions to take pot shots at Christianity?

One has to have a sense of humor on both sides.

Muslims will kill you if you say something against their religion.

Hopefully - Christians are able to just laugh at the joke.

Oh indeed one does need to Woody, which is why I made mention of it. Just taking the opportunity to point out that a fair number of Christians don't have a sense of humour when jokes are made about their religion, yet certainly do when taking pot shots at other religions. Its not something that is prevalent on the boards here per say, but something I have noticed in real life. Gerry just gave me the chance to bring it up.

You are right about the more radical Muslims however. Wiccans get real uptight as well.

It seems that the emphasis of the quote is on what "I" am going to do -- "all my energies to develop myself," etc. But there is no good thing in us.

It's only as we give God permission to dwell in us through His Spirit, then it will be Him in us doing the things throughout the day the quote mentions.

Actually, mocking or joking was the farthest thing in my mind when I wrote it. Is it not a fundamental Buddhist belief that there is a continuous recycling of life unless one reached Nirvana?

I don't get that derogatory type of thinking. You guys claim that God made us in his image. Then it is said that we are not made in his physical image, but in his spiritual image. That he has imbued each individual one of us with that. Yet you say that there is no good in us? Makes no sense at all.

Yes it is. Maybe I just misread the "tone" of your post.

The text in Jeremiah comes to mind (17:9) about the heart being deceitful and desperately wicked. I think it's more of a New Age way of thinking that we have good inside of us.

We were created in God's image but sin changed that. Now, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we are being transformed back into the person we were created to be.

Hey, I think that no matter what is motivating our hearts that if we try to do what's in our power to bless and make good of the strength and opportunity that is given us each day, that it is better than not trying or doing evil instead.

:) I'd take it

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
