Since my favorite threads have died of old age, got locked down, or mysteriously disappeared over the past couple of weeks, I was "shopping" today for some new places to shoot my mouth off. I must say I was amazed and appalled at all of the judgement, condemnation, personal insult, finger-pointing, and general hate and discontent that is going on out there! So-called conservatives condemning so-called liberals for preaching about being saved in their sins; liberals accusing conservatives of not practicing what they preach, etc. etc., etc. I'm not accusing anyone specific here - I'm just as guilty as anyone else. I'm appalled at some of my own posts and shouts!

I'm not going to heap coals on anyone by quoting scores of scriptures about being kind to one another, Jesus commanding us to love one another, the OT commandment to love your neighbor etc. We all know them.

If I was a non-Adventist visiting this site, the last thing I would think is "How they love one another". We who are supposed to be the heirs of Christ's peace and love are assassinating one another. Where is our witness of God's unconditional love?

Am I the only one who feels this way? What do you think?

Well stated joeMo. Thank you.

Jesus said he didn't come - - Mt 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

He came to shoot us up with Love and Truth and that is what He is, Love, Truth and the Only way.

When He shoots us with His Love and His Truth and the Way He has made the wounded come to life! There isn't any needle in that shot!

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I have never met a single family who doesn't get into arguments from time to time and sometimes quite heated.

I think it is really naive to think that God's love and God's family will always be roses and butterflies.

That version of love is best left for fairy tales.

cheddar,

I may have been born at night; but it wasn't last night. I'm not saying that we all need to get together and smoke the peace pipe and sing "Kumbya" forever and ever. By the same token, we don't need to dissect each other's posts under a microscope and harshly and mercilessly rebuke, reprimand, and condemn each other for every opinion that disagrees with our own. We can choose our battles more carefully; and be a little less disagreeable when we do disagree. We can limit our criticism to the issues at stake rather than personally attack each other.

Sure - whenever 2 or more people get together, there will be occasional conflict. But do we have to have constant conflict?

Even if your answer is "yes", does it have to be in the form of personal attack and condemnation?

Jesus commanded us to love one another. Jesus gave us peace. This is not a naivety or fairy tale. This is spiritual reality.

Most unbelievers are more tolerant of each other than we Christians are. Do you like being called a moron or an infidel? I don't either. People may use different words, but a rose (or a moron) by any other name ...

There used to be a popular worship song called "They Will Know We are Christians by our Love". Would a non-believer who visited this site know we are Christians by our love?

"Light and darkness cannot harmonize. Between truth and error there is an irrepressible conflict. To uphold and defend the one is to attack and overthrow the other." - Martin Luther

Sugar-coated truth won't win any converts.

Beating people up won't win converts either.

Although I did read that Catholics were successful a few hundred years ago offering people the choice between converting or losing their heads. The Crusades won a lot of people to Christ, as well.
