Femster Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Hello all. just wanting to say i have been a SDA for just over a year now. Satanic attacks onme have been rife lately. On the aniversay of my baptism, an indident happened which saw me in hospital in an accident. Got home next day to find things had happened at home which distrssed me greatly. But i digress. A friend of mine- recently came out to me. ALSO Sda. They have NOT told the congregation. Nor do i feel obliged to, it is between them and God. I cannot wlak away from him, he is my dear brother in Christ. But what do i do, how do i handle it? Might i add my adopted brother is also gay- not sda- and i love him and support him, not for what he is but for WHO he is. Can of worms, feel free to throw me in it. Quote

Gibs Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Hello, Femster, Is this "Bro" a married man? To be gay is a serious offense in the eyes of God. Yes it falls under "fornication" Here is a strong denunciation by Paul, 1Co 5:9 ¶ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 1Co 5:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 1Co 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. The meaning of "fornicator" in the Greek, pornos por'-nos from pernemi (to sell; akin to the base of 4097); a (male) prostitute (as venal), i.e. (by analogy) a debauchee (libertine):--fornicator, whoremonger. "Fornication" in the Greek, porneia por-ni'-ah from 4203; harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry:--fornication. Put him akin to these words of scripture and here is a little more from Romans. Ask the Lord to guide you in presenting all this to him, know this, Satan has a terrible hold on him, he needs a lot of help, from the Master Physician. Ro 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Ro 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Ro 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. Ro 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: Ro 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Ro 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Administrators Gail Posted August 12, 2012 Administrators Posted August 12, 2012 I would venture that "being" gay is not the same as openly living that lifestyle. We have at least one non-practising gay member here who lives as you and I do, by the blood of the Lamb. He is still gay, but redeemed. Being gay does not mean the person is a fornicator unless that person is practising fornication. Same rule applies to singles or married people. It is one thing to have weaknesses and be tempted, it is another to give in and follow through. And then, when we do fall, it is important to repent and bring it to Jesus. What you can do as this person's friend is continue to be his friend and encourage him to lay all at Jesus' feet. The important thing is to encourage him to cling to Him who can give him help in ALL things, this circumstance and any that he may have besides. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I really hope you don't take this guy seriously or close to heart. There's nothing "wrong" with being gay in terms of understanding such human condition, and approaching it with understanding. Gay is merely a "deviation" from normality that we expect from nature. In that sense, being gay is no more sinful than being born without genitals. None have a choice in matter other than to best cope with such condition. Biblical morality never condemns homosexuality as a preference. It condemns male prostitution, fornication, pederasty, homosexual rape as means for humiliation (the residents of Sodom were not gay, it was a common practice in ancient culture to show dominance by anally raping men as means to humiliation.) When Paul describes men forsaking their natural preference for women, it's absolutely different thing than actually having a "natural" preference for men. Paul is talking about sexual boredom in Ancient Rome that would result in common practice of experimenting with having sex with young male prostitutes. This has little to do with what your friend is experiencing. He does not have preference due to sexual boredom. There are other reasons for swapping in sexual preferences that are purely physiological (and endocrinal) in nature. Quote

That's your personal opinion, fccool, and you have a right to it if that's what you've decided, but it's also a legitimate viewpoint of the Scripture and of Christians that it does condemn the practice of homosexuality as sinful. If we zero in on certain passages, it's also a legitimate viewpoint of the scripture that we should stone disobedient children, and sabbath breakers. It's also a legitimate viewpoint that women should not have short hair, and that they should sit and study in silence and submission. It's very easy to make a blanket case by zeroing on certain statements, and without understanding the "receiving culture". Homosexuality was viewed as "deviant", but so is a lion hunting down and eating a rabbit from a certain perspective. In our world we should expect certain deviation, and we should give other people some room and freedom to cope with it, instead of dismissing their natural preferences as sinful, and demanding of them something that we can't do ourselves. Essentially, what you are saying is that homosexuals should either act against their sexual preference, or not having sex at all. I would not ask from someone what I could not possibly accomplish myself. That's why I don't largely oppose loving homosexual relationships in constraints of fidelity, no matter how unappealing I may find the idea. Quote
Gibs Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 The power of God only can deliver one from being gay. Very, very few do overcome it as they OK the practice they so love and will not see it as a soul destroying sin. Several times Pastor Butch Paugh has had a gay give his testimony on the program of what a battle it is to finally overcome it. It is not a pleasant one to hear out. It got him into some nasty experiences that are unbelievable. It is a Satanic grip that man of himself cannot break and it is one terrible debasing thing. The poor soul must come to Jesus and throw himself at Jesus feet knowing when he does Satan will throw him around and beat him up before he releases him. But the suplicant must persevere regardless and his heart given to Jesus until Satan knows he has lost the battle. I think to be freed from it is akin to an exorcism. Many times those do not go easy. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
Femster Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Hi all, a wide range fof answers, for which i thank you. NO he is not "active" in the lifestyle. Has been married twice and has 2 sons. I thought it was more important that a person comes to know Christ rather than their sexuality? for when they come to know Christ, is not all forgiven? And for in the Bible,we can take verses out of context and twist and turn them to our own viewpoints. God will guide the "gay" Christian to do what he must. And in saying that, my brother was dating at the time, a minister in a gay church. they held a Christmas Service at a LARGE town hall in my Capital City. ( they are no longer together) It was one of the warmest, most welcoming, and HAPPY places i had ever been to. And the message WAS preached ( given it was anglican). I felt God's love there. So tell me how does this NOT spread God's message. These three things I give to you- faith, hope and love. But the greatest is LOVE. Isnt love the sinner but NOT the sin???? And we are judging- shouldnt we be NOT judging and leave that to God on Resurrection morning? Sorry, but i will NOT walk away form my gay adventist friend nor my brother. No way. I lvoe them for who they are NOT WHAT they are! Love and God's blessings to all! Quote

That is how I see it for anyone We can ALL take heart in Jesus' message to the woman taken in adultery: Neither do I condemn you- go and sin no more. I would also add- Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, and you shall have rest unto your souls. No one is exempt from the sin thing. I would say, Join the club. For that reason, I'd say... don't advice them to come out publicly. The church is not ready for things like these. Quote
