CoAspen Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 How about downsizing the GC? That would be a fun topic!! Quote
doug yowell Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Let's begin dismantling the segregated conferences.Laz, what's the hold up with that issue? Are the white conferences not wanting to end the policy or is it the black conferences? Or both? One of the local preachers here (Eric Walsh)has been calling for it's demise for a couple of years now. Quote

Kountzer Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 So called white conf churches have many black people and other people of different races and cultures. So called black or segregated conf churches have white and hispanic members. I don't think there are any segregated conferences. But most of the participants on this board spout skewed opinions, so I am not surprised. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
OzarkWoman Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I will probably not have anyone happy with what I am going to post here, but here goes anyway. I have noticed that there are "special" groups for the Hispanics or Latinos, however you want to say it. I think it is wrong and does not lend itself to what this country is supposed to be, a melting pot. I am sick of Americans who describe themselves as a hyphenated American. Either one is an American or not. Quote
teresaq Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Some people really do not want to be 'white', OW. They like their culture and language. They do not want to disappear into a 'melting pot'. It's like dying. I have lived in a very diverse neighborhood most of my life and attended a quite diverse church with 3 congregations: black, Samoan and Spanish, with the black side containing, I think, a representative from not a few other groups. The only thing I would change about the whole arrangement is the 'us-them' mentality. Since I was 12 and first exposed to multiple groups living on an island vastly different from my mostly 'white' world, I have appreciated that I could learn something from all those groups that I would never see being 'stuck' in just one world. All those learning opportunities would be gone if we 'assimilated' everyone. To reiterate, what I would change is the 'us-them' mentality and pray that we all could learn to love and appreciate each other and each others' differences. (Minus the abuse practiced, but that is found in every group) (Besides we would all have to adopt the Native American ways of thinking and being from back in the 15-1600s anyway to really be American) But that is my view. :) Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790

Woody Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Adventist today reports that the idea of GC sanctions is false. Praise the Lord. But are they going to move the General Conference Office away from the rebellious union? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
CyberGuy Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Sanctions would be difficult since the money flows from the church to the conference to the Union to the division to the GC. Sure some money is given back but only a percentage of the money given. People are voted in office at the conference level and the conferences vote for their Union leaders. So the conference has to answer to their churches and not the Union and NAD. Unless there is a really apostate violation of one or many of the 28 foundational beliefs there will be no sactions as some suggest. No really effective way to do that anyway. Quote Riverside CA
Woody Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 All this talk of sanctions is interesting. Apparently it is the belief of some - that it is okay to talk about what the Unions have done to try and protect the Fundamentals. (In a negative way) But it is abuse to talk of what the President it doing against the Unions. Strange things going on in these the last days. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won.
