Amelia Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Atheists Meet To Counter Religious Right SAN FRANCISCO 05-23-2005 A weekend gathering in San Francisco may have seemed like a church revival, full of zeal and fervor. But worshiping God was most decidedly not part of the agenda. The estimated 250 attendees of the "All Atheists Weekend" gathered to discuss what they call the rise of fundamentalism in the US and the blurring of lines between church and state. Attendees also took time to view documentaries that question the historical accuracy of the Bible, and to hear lectures about the dangers of religious icons on public property and problems with President Bush's "faith-based initiative." Organizers say the religious right's increasing involvement in politics has triggered an angry backlash among the godless. Nicodema Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 It's not just "among the godless". Many of us who consider ourselves Christians and seek a relationship with Jesus Christ have serious disagreements with this ilk, most notably as they presume to pretend to represent what Christianity is to the rest of the world and thereby turn away and turn off millions of souls for whom Christ died, for nothing more than their own greedy lust for political power to impose their mere opinions upon everyone through legislature. (*whew* how's that for a run-on sentence). I should like to see MORE of a backlash among the "godly" as well. Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot

Like I have said so many times...as long as sermons program sheeple to be complacent, apathetic, passive, indifferent, spectators..don't count on any backlash. 30-60 minutes a week of spiritual pablum /NFDMTTS is not goint to offset 6+ days of worldly programming for the media. The media makes Desperate Housewives, substitutes American Idols for the creator God, increases crime to keep CSI busy..and leaves most just LOST Quote
