Members phkrause Posted August 30, 2012 Members Posted August 30, 2012 So true. It doesn't matter who makes those promises, because if the other party doesn't want to help, it ain't gonna happen. Its been that way for many years. Every once in a while you get a bunch in there that are willing to work together. Very sad. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Aliensanctuary Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Seems like it's always the same thing...political candidates making promises they cannot keep. In the end, though, once elected, they steal our hard-earned money and waste it by enriching themselves and other bureaucrats and government employees, or by giving it to those who do not deserve it. Of course, humans will always do that sort of thing. It's in our natures. Quote The Parable of the Lamb and the Pigpen https://www.createspace.com/3401451
CyberGuy Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 We should have in the federal arena what we have in state governments. Propositions. Propositions are things the people vote on and that overrides governers and state assemblies. In calfornia we tired of our government raising taxes so we vote in that it takes a 2/3rd majority to raise taxes. The state assembly then stated calling taxes fees and we had a proposition that fees also require the 2/3 majority. Now the state government has passed that on to the local governments so that local goverments have put fees and taxes on everything. Like Utilities. Many of us has seen our utility bills in california go up 20 to 300 percent due to fees on utilities. Expect us to revolt against that soon as well. Quote Riverside CA
sjj Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Greetings I received an e-mail requesting my opinion on the debates but I am not sure this is where that opinion belongs so I am sorry if it is in the wrong place. I do know that we are told not to vote for people. That is because we will be held responsible for the sins of those we voted in while they were in office. I don't know about you but I don't want to be held responsible for someone else's sins. Needless to say I have stopped voting for people. It really is a relief anyway. I don't have to waste time listening to argumentive debates and I don't have to try to figure out who would do the best job. I don't have to try to figure out who would be the least sinful for the job by avoiding voting. We are told however to vote when it comes to issues. For example if they vote for getting rid of alcohol we are to get out there and vote against alcohol in favor of temperance. Have a nice day! Quote
Woody Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Quote: Needless to say I have stopped voting for people. Interesting comment. I have done the same thing. I stopped voting for people long ago. Now I just vote a straight party line for the party that best represents my beliefs as a Seventh day Adventist Christian. Neil D Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 First off, to ignore a political opportunity to vote and make your voice hear, is a great injustice, in my opinion....Seems to me, that if one refuses to vote, one should also not allowed to voice ANY opinion on government leader...As a Seventh day Adventist, we are encouraged to vote, and we are encouraged by the bible to "do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God"....How can we not then participate and vote our concerns and to do the just thing for our society? How can we not participate and let God be known thru the populace? It sadden me that to not vote is equal to rebellion against God Himself.... And how can ONE party embody our SDA beliefs? We are unique in our message of mercy and love that I don't think anyone party can embody our beliefs. It is therefore incumbent upon us to take that time, to learn the character of the candidates, and see just who is worthy to take office...We have too many people in our society who are lazy, who will not do the due diligence that is required to make the tough decisions...If a voter doesn't do the work, then he deserves the poor outcomes of any election....And we have seen a lot of that these last 30 years..... So, gentlemen [and ladies], get out and vote...learn your candidates, learn the issues, discuss with your neighbors, ponder and question....who knows, you might get to know your neighbors and they might get to know who you are...... and what you TRUELY stand for....
