M. T. Cross Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I have had a few interesting jobs........ One was working on the kill floor of a cattle slaughterhouse. I swear it was 3 months after I left there that I finally got all the blood out of my hair and stuff - you would not believe how that stuff sticks. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted September 5, 2012 Moderators Posted September 5, 2012 I was a Trainee Anaesthetic Technician (try fitting *that* occupation in most forms!) for a while. It got me into operating theatres on my first day, when most of the other people there had trained for between 6 and 13 years to be there. Saw lots of surgery... didn't get any blood on me... Neil D Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Please tell us about some of the most interesting jobs that you have had. "most interesting".....I've had some unusual ones, but wouldn't say that they are the MOST interesting.... When I went to PUC, I worked on the poultry farm....processing vegetarian eggs....It meant that I had to learn to drive a motorized cart while pouring chicken feed into feeding gutters, learning how to grade eggs [make sure there were no blood spots in the yolks before shipping them in cartons to grocery stores], shoveling chicken manure, learning where hens go when they don't give eggs..... ...and shall we say that the environment was very....well, let's say the air quality wasn't the best for a person.... Moderators lazarus Posted September 13, 2012 Moderators Posted September 13, 2012 The most interesting job I have every had was one year I spent working at a residential school for children with Autism, Aspergers and Downs Syndrome. I was in seminary at the time. There were some amazing characters there. There was a child who was really into listening to reggae music on the radio. He was a white, 9 year old kid from a wealthy family who was a walking reggae encyclopedia. He would write out the lyrics. He managed to find out session musician names, the producer, the label, release date etc. of songs that he really liked. He would often talk in a Jamaican accent and happily discuss the reggae music scene in JA and the UK. There was the other kid who would always communicate using words, phrases or sentences from commercials or tv programs he had watched. If you asking hm how he was feeling he would repeat some line from a commercial. Some how it would always fit! There was the kid who would only eat toast. Toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I never saw him eat anything else. When I first started the staff told me that at full moon the kids would be more unsettled than usual. I thought it was a practical joke. I was shocked to discover that they weren't kidding. I will never forget those experiences. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Members phkrause Posted September 13, 2012 Members Posted September 13, 2012 I'd say one of the most interesting jobs I had was back before I graduated from High School. Worked with a guy that delivered meat to delis in NJ. Its something else. Oh and it was all kosher and semi-kosher meat. No unclean stuff. LOL Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 15, 2012 Administrators Posted September 15, 2012 Like Neil, I would say I have had a number of unusual jobs over the years. When I reflect back on all the different jobs over the years, I am struck by how many different jobs and what a wide spectrum of work experience - dairy farmer, chicken catcher/carrier (10-12 at once, 5-6 in each hand), grape picker, horse wrangler/riding instructor, factory worker (wood furniture assembly and finishing; cardiac care bed - small parts fabrication and assembly) janitor, nightwatchman, nursing home food service worker, handyman/painter, mini-golf course worker, lawn care worker, security guard, english language teacher, alcoholism treatment counselor, psychiatric technician, surgical prep orderly, pharmacy technician, law clerk, lawyer.. then there is the volunteer work -community services, mission building projects, teaching ministry, board member and/or chair of various nonprofit organizations (credit union, church, school, long term care/continuing care retirement community). But the best job - being a father! I think I need to retire! Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." olger Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 You ain't never been no chicken catcher. gosh Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 15, 2012 Administrators Posted September 15, 2012 Oh, but I was a chicken catcher, believe it or not! The farm next to ours raised chickens until laying age, then sold them for the only two career options for a chicken. I was mostly a runner carrying 10-12 birds at once to the truck to be stuffed in the crates on the truck to be hauled to a "better place". It all happens at night in the dark. The catcher quickly snatches them off the roost by one leg turning them upside down which quiets them down and hands a handful at a time by the legs off to the runners who carry them to the truck to be loaded on the truck. It was actually pretty good pay for a young guy for half a night's work, even though it was really a dirty job! Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."
