Johann Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Statement regarding equality and ordination According to the Seventh Day Adventist Church´s belief in creation, as witnessed in the Bible, God has created mankind – man and woman – in His image and therefore equal. Because of sin, God instituted a special priesthood reserved for men. This special priesthood with its sacrifices and functions found its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. There is no longer any special priesthood. Jesus Christ is our only true priest, the exalted high priest in the true temple in heaven. Now all have free access to God (Hebrews 4-5). All of Christ's followers – both men and women – were lifted up to be a "chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, to declare His praises" (1 Peter 2:9). This royal priesthood has a common purpose, namely to proclaim the gospel. This ministry is based on the spiritual gifts which the Holy Spirit gives equally to men and women (1 Chor 12). Paul mentions some specific grace based ministries in the Church, including apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds (i.e. pastors), and teachers (Eph 4:7-16). With background in this biblical understanding, the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Denmark will not distinguish between genders when appointing pastors, and wishes to see equality between genders in all areas of responsibility. As a result, the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Denmark will suspend the ordaining of any new pastors until the General Conference session in 2015. Voted at the Danish Union session, May 12, 2013 Quote

All the work you've done lobbying for women's ordination to get on the good side of the women on this site, and it just went POOF! in one post. Calling debbym simple. How could you, Johann? Johann Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 It so happens that I am a Seventh-day Adventist Christian who bases all my life on the Word of God where each text fits into the the total picture. That text applies to me because the Word of God is what my simple mind needs to understand the will of God. Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 15, 2013 Administrators Posted May 15, 2013 And you and the Pope are all about social justice. What next? And that insults me how? Unlike many in the Adventist anti-WO camp I am not really bothered by having things in common with Catholics, other Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, or for that matter, pagans and atheists. Truth is and can be found in the oddest and often very unexpected places. I am not inclined to dismiss the value, benefit, or truth of something just because it comes from an uncomfortable source or from a source with which I may have disagreement on other important issues. And on the flip side, I am also not so ideologically partisan that I will automatically accept everything promoted and that is a part of any group with which I am associated. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
joeb Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 debbym, Johann, and and anyone insulted by my post. It was tongue-in-cheek humor coming from debbym's response to Johann's post in which she said everything was becoming clearer and Johann's response to that by quoting the verse about making wise the simple. Sorry if you're all insulted, but no insult or anything demeaning about anyone was ever meant. It's just the obtuse workings of my mind in seeing humor in all kinds of places. I guess I'll just try to keep my humor to myself after this. Quote Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.Alexis de Tocqueville
