Temptation...?

Here are 2 verses that conflict in the Bible. Perhaps it's due to translations of the original language? Either way, I'd like to know your opinions out there. It won't change my Faith and Love for God and the Bible.

James says that God tempts no one:

Jam 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Here, Genesis says that God tempted Abraham to slay Isaac.

Gen 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, [here] I [am].

What say you?

In the case of Gen 22:1 it would have been better to be translated "prove" for that is what was done. Abraham proved His Faith. Then used as an example for all afterwards and still is.

And that is one meaning of tempt also.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Thanks Gibs. I feel that such things can cause a "baby" Christian to doubt the WORD...without digging deeper and deeper.

I have Loved the Lord since Cradle Roll, so it is a moot point for me. I just need to know how to answer others when these texts are brought up.

Other thoughts out there?
