OzarkWoman Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 This article tends to promote a political position. Which is objectionable to me. Why? More churches and pastors should get their congregrations involved so they really understand the issues and not vote depending on sound bites. Quote

aldona Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 What is politics? The term comes from two ancient Greek words: Poli = Many Tics = Blood-sucking Parasites But seriously though...Spare a thought for those of us who live in Australia, where voting is compulsory. We aren't having a federal election this year, but we have local council elections happening right now, and I'm looking at the two envelopes that just arrived a few days ago with postal voting papers for my husband and myself. (Some local elections are held by post; most others are held on Saturdays. Either way, the Adventist thing to do is either a postal vote or pre-poll vote. There are a very small minority who do not vote - and are prepared to pay a penalty, see below - or my favorite, making an "informal" vote by defacing the ballot paper or otherwise making unofficial marks on it. Many of us remember those heady days of youth, having just turned 18 and being "eligible" to cast our compulsory vote, when we would add an extra square to the ballot paper and vote for Ronald McDonald, Krusty the Klown, Mr Bean or Adolf Hitler). We forgot to vote one time because we were too busy and got fined $50 each. So it's better to return the ballot paper with "THIS IS A COMPLETE FARCE" written across it, than to flush a $50 note down the toilet, so to speak. I'm going to vote for the candidate who promises to bring back our 6-monthly hard rubbish collections. It used to be like a garage sale that ate the whole neighborhood, with everybody walking and driving around recycling and scavenging each other's junk, until the party-poopers at Clown Hall decided it was an occupational health and safety hazard, or the garbage disposal contractors complained about losing work, or something. So now it's illegal. My other strategy, because I believe in the total separation of church and state, is to vote for someone who is as diametrically opposite to me as possible in terms of religion. Needless to say, I am VERY comfortable with having an atheist/agnostic Prime Minister, for this reason. For example the article says "However, some societal actions are also described as abominations (Lev. 18)." -- leaving it up to the reader to read the chapter and decide for themselves. Unless the argument is that Lev 18 was "written for or by Republicans in America" - the point is generic. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Not at all. There are Biblical principles that Republicans ignore. The campaign against gay marriage but are silent on heterosexual divorce. Abortion is murder but drone strikes are not. BobRyan Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 They (Republicans) campaign against gay marriage but are silent on heterosexual divorce. Abortion is murder but drone strikes are not. I have yet to see democrats debate "against Republicans" when it comes to divorce and drone strikes. Rather it is this democrat President that is absolutely enthusiastic about drone strikes and no complaints at all from the democrat run senate and congress of his first two years in office nor from those same guys to this date. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." bonnie Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 They (Republicans) campaign against gay marriage but are silent on heterosexual divorce. Abortion is murder but drone strikes are not. It would be extremely difficult to campaign politically against divorce.Does that somehow mean (Republicans) are for divorce? God has granted permission for divorce under certain circumstances. No where has God granted permission for gay marriage.Homosexual behavior is always explained as a abomination. Military action is a far different scenario.Indiscriminate drone strikes just because we can is wrong and I think most of us think so.Yes,it seems to be a lot more of it the last couple of years. Drones are a separate issue from abortion. There are abortions that are just plain murder and that can't be denied. A baby often is aborted that would be viable outside the womb. Not for the life of the mother, those babies are given every chance for life following their early or forced birth. Babies, referred to as a fetus outside the womb are left without even basic comfort care and left to die. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Moderators lazarus Posted October 17, 2012 Moderators Posted October 17, 2012 I have yet to see democrats debate "against Republicans" when it comes to divorce and drone strikes. Moderators lazarus Posted October 17, 2012 Moderators Posted October 17, 2012 It would be extremely difficult to campaign politically against divorce. Why is that? Quote: Military action is a far different scenario.Indiscriminate drone strikes just because we can is wrong and I think most of us think so.Yes,it seems to be a lot more of it the last couple of years. Who does Drone strikes "because we can?" Absurd. The US military is going after targets. Sometimes they get them sometimes they don't. The point is that murdering innocent people is wrong under any circumstances, born or unborn. They GOP has taught people to believe that killing unborn children is wrong but killing children who are near a suspected terrorist is a fact of life. In the same way that gay marriage is wrong but multiple divorces is OK. A perversion of Biblical principles. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. bonnie Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Quote: Why is that? What role would you like to see any political side take in prohibiting divorce? Make it illegal? Force two people to live together? Make it a government role? Do you really believe that as long as it is not a political issue that means that they are in favor of indiscriminate divorce? Is gay marriage to be legalized based on the divorce rate of straight couples? How does the divorce rate make void that God has forbidden a gay lifestyle and calls it an abomination ? Quote: Who does Drone strikes "because we can?" Absurd. The US military is going after targets. Sometimes they get them sometimes they don't. In the same way that gay marriage is wrong but multiple divorces is OK. A perversion of Biblical principles. [/quote'] Killing a 125 people because a suspected terrorist might be in the midst is using drones just because you can. If I am against abortion, especially those that are aborted that could live with some supportive care,I first need to list everything else I am against, give a list of what I have done to care for neglected starving children? Decide if I don't speak out against another specific sin, then should remain silent on all? There is nothing right about multiple divorces so please quit trying to imply that has been said by those that do not believe gay marriage should become law. Multiple divorce is a perversion of God's law. Please list those that have said multiple divorce is Okay. Then tell me what a political figure should do about a divorce of private citizens.Decide who is at fault and force the guilty to remain in the marriage?Outlaw divorce except for physical abuse? Allow divorce when one is a drug addict? Gay partnerships/marriage is as susceptible to separation/divorce as a straight couple. That is not a reason to either deny gay marriage or condone it. From what you have written it appears that because there are other sins in the world, gay marriage should be legalized and abortions at any stage is acceptable. Force two people to live together? Make it a government role? Do you really believe that as long as it is not a political issue that means that they are in favor of indiscriminate divorce? The reason why these pols don't talk about divorce is because many of them have been divorced. It is that simple. If we are driven by biblical principle then who cares what the obstacles are. Quote: Killing a 125 people because a suspected terrorist might be in the midst is using drones just because you can. Using the same reasoning the 6,000 civilians dead in the town of Falujah, Iraq was also because you can. Quote: Multiple divorce is a perversion of God's law. Please list those that have said multiple divorce is Okay. Their silence speaks loudly. If you speak against gay marriage because you believe in the sanctity of marriage then you should speak equally strongly against divorce. Divorce is in fact the greater threat to marriage. Moderators lazarus Posted October 26, 2012 Moderators Posted October 26, 2012 The drone strikes which I have a big problem with, are against terrorists. There have been drone strikes when the wanted individual may or may not be in the midst of many innocents,weddings/funerals. During a active war there isn't any way to stop and weed out the innocents. Drone strikes are carried out in war. The war on terror is a war. The reason why the US strike terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan is because there is a war on. Missions were called off in Iraq because of the presence of children. War is war!
