CAIRO, Ill. — Betty J. Shackles, 83, of Cairo died at 7:10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cairo and a retired seamstress.

Survivors include four sons, Mickey Shackles of Marion, Rickey Shackles and William Earl Shackles Jr., both of Cairo, and Carl Thomas Shackles of Mounds; one brother, Carl Nelms of Paducah; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Shackles Sr.; and one son, Raymond Shackles. Her parents were Carl and Elizabeth Nelms.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cairo with Adrian Amarandei and John Tuthill officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
