When you do see a strife gendering, what is wrong, the question itself or the personalities involved in the discussion?

What a coincidence! I just listened to a sermon on this exact subject this morning driving into work! It basically said that no non-salvational doctrinal issues are worth fighting over. Then he listed salvational doctrines and non-salvational ones. I won't go through the lists - they might engender foolish strife ... I'm sure glad we don't enter into those kind of discussions here on CA!

I suppose a foolish person will if does, ask a question, may be a foolish one.

Many times the question isn't foolish but some in contention of the question get that way.

With the Disciples and Apostles and Jesus they had to contend with the striving of the legalistic Pharisees and the law of which they multiplied requirements of foolishness. Paul fought that hard but at the same time upheld the Royal law of God.

This happens in all serious discussions, Satan sees to that. The foolish has to in many cases be bypassed and ignored or the discussion is stymied.

It is more or less a ploy to make of none effect the object of the discussion.

It may be that Saint Paul, or more'n likely - he who actually wrote the Epistles to Saint Timothy - was having a bad-hair day, as Jesus Christ said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, for such is the kingdom of Gd." An', ain not nobody asks more 'foolish' questions than a child.

How about - "When is sundown?--when the sun dips below the highest point on the horizon or the lowest?" Or, how about, "Does, or does not, sundown actually occur when one standing on the roof on yonder house sees the appearance of the third star in the evening and running - tells the chief elder - at which point sundown actually occurs. An', does it matter if it is a he or a she? An', how old must he or she be?"

Or, "Doesn't the Bible prove that Pope John Paul II was an antichrist?"
