Administrators Naomi Posted November 2, 2012 Administrators Posted November 2, 2012 No, Yes ... Maybe ... Good question Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Gibs Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Not so much that Stan as I have seen many times quotes pulled out without enough of it to hold up a view of the idea the one is presenting. The same is done with the scriptures. It is His Spirit that leads to a right understanding of His Word and in many cases Sister Whites testimonies. The prophecies are a great example, many are given that only His Chosen ones will see the right interpretation. He has no desire on some of them that those outside the camp will know and see. Many have eyes to see but do not see and ears that hear but do not hear Him. It's like water off a ducks back unless His Spirit guides into the truth of it. Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come . 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Moderators LynnDel Posted November 2, 2012 Moderators Posted November 2, 2012 When I was in 7th and 8th grade, our teacher used EGW books to punish us. Instead of writing, "I will not talk in class" 100 times, we had to copy a certain number of pages from EGW books, preferably on a related topic, such as obedience or respect. It's a wonder I ever wanted to touch one of her books after that! Quote LD
Gustave Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Do you know anyone who uses EGW to bully people? IS that possible? Yes, any SDA who states a thing possible that God Himself explicitly said was IMPOSSIBLE... ...Such as Ellen White claiming it was possible for the Scriptures to be broken. ...As in it was possible that Christ could have sinned and lost His Salvation! Gibs Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 If he came then to show man it could be done then it is a farce that Christ came at all. What would be the sense of it if He was Not liable to be overcome. He overcame as one of us, a man and not as God. Even His disciples did not know for a while that He was but a man as themselves. Other Jews were going to stome Him for claiming to be God. Yes God the Father dwelt in the man Jesus Christ but was in Him only as He will be in us. We have all the power as Christ did, it cannot be denied! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Yes quite a few at one time, but basically they had to take her out of context to do it. Moderators John317 Posted November 3, 2012 Moderators Posted November 3, 2012 Do you know anyone who uses EGW to bully people? IS that possible? Ellen White herself had some strong words to say against using her books in that way. There are different views of "bullying," though. My own view is that if two or more people are quoting Ellen White's statements on a particular topic during a discussion of what she taught, it isn't "bullying" to quote a statement that is on the topic. Bullying is when people use EGW to try to force someone to do something they clearly don't want to do. I've never used EGW to bully my children, but I have urged them to read what she wrote on various subjects. For instance, my youngest daughter recently flew to Florida in order to be with a boy friend. I urged her to read what Ellen White wrote about love relationships and marriage in the book, Messages To Young People. My daughter believes in Ellen White as God's prophet and she happily took that book with her on the plane to Florida. Her reading of it caused her to change her plans. She went to Florida, but she decided against living with her boy friend until they have a church wedding. Until then she is living with her boy friend's sister. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Moderators John317 Posted November 3, 2012 Moderators Posted November 3, 2012 ...Again, this is classic Arianism in that it devalues Christ......By suggesting that any man can / could do what Christ did. I think you're misunderstanding Gibs' point. He is not saying that any mere human could do what Christ did. On the other hand, by the Holy Spirit's power, all believers can obey Christ's commandments. Gibs Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 When you get it clear there is no Trinity it may help. Jesus was God because the Father was in Him. He had no more power from God to overcome than we do. Yes He was sent with the liability to be overcome by Satan as we are. He was fully God in a body, yes but came as one of us to have to overcome same as us with His indwelling. Re 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. That means one thing, we have the same power with His indwelling as He had. He in us is the Father in us too as that who was in Him reconciling the world to Himself. Read, 2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Don't you see if we overcome as He did we must have the same power, strength or advantage as He. He came to "succor" us, show us it could be done in us as it was in Him. Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. How could He be tempted if He didn't have the liability to sin? Not possible! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
