bonnie Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Florida & Kentucky Among First States To Require Drug Test For Welfare Recipients By Billy Goforth August 8, 2011 Florida Passes Legislation To Drug Test Welfare RecipientsPhoto by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Governor Rick Scott of Florida has just signed into law legislation that requires welfare recipients to pass a drug screening in order to receive welfare assistance. This is meeting with high controversy from some and huge support from others. Now, anyone applying for government assistance will be required to pass a drug test which they purchase themselves. They will be reimbursed upon passing the test and then be qualified to receive assistance. Some feel this is a way to ensure that tax payer funds go to people who are willing to better their lives and not end up in the pockets of small time drug dealers. A law similar to this was passed in Michigan in 1999 but was repealed when a Michigan judge ruled it unconstitutional. Should taxpayers support people who are using illegal drugs, or should this be ruled unconstitutional? Read more on this here Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman

bonnie Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 Maybe they should have read this first - http://truth-out.org/news/item/12264-lie...manize-the-poor Doesn't change a thing. Most of us applying for even a low level job, something we have to work for to get paid have to take a drug test. When you are demanding others feed and clothe you and your family something should be expected from you.Assistance should be based on needs, not wants. The "poor" have become a romanticized special group of people. The whole food stamp requirements should change as well. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. OzarkWoman Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 They all in all states should have to be drug tested and then, intermittent tests to make sure they are not doing drugs. Of course it will not happen because there are far too many liberals in this country these days. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Certainly welfare recipients are a good target for testing because drug addiction is a known cause of poverty. Here in Texas, anyone injured on the job has to get a drug test. The worker's compensation companies require it because there is an established link between workplace accidents and drug use. That isn't to say that all welfare receptionists use drugs or everyone that has an accident at work is high. It is just saying there are established links. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... While I was living in Florida, and they passed this law, I thought this was a good idea. From what we found out though is that less than 1% have been found to be on drugs. This is one reason many have been against it. Not only that but that it is very costly, which prompted many to complain against doing it. If you want others to support you,you pay for the tests. If they pass the test and obtain welfare take a little out of each check till paid for.If you fail it and can't pay,so many hours of productive community service for you Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. The actual test costs between $30-$50. The purpose isn't to kick people off welfare, It is to identify addicts and get them help. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
