Moderators Bravus Posted November 24, 2012 Moderators Posted November 24, 2012 I'm growing my facial hair to raise money and awareness for men's health. Here are today's photos: Men, if you haven't had a check-up for general health and prostate health recently, do it! Mine is on Thursday. And if anyone would like to donate - proceeds go to research and mitigation efforts for both prostate cancer and depression - here's a link: http://mobro.co/davidgeelan Quote Truth is important
Moderators Gerr Posted November 24, 2012 Moderators Posted November 24, 2012 Are the docs in Australia recommending PSA testing to screen for prostate cancer? It is now being discouraged in the USA. Quote

Stan Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I do remember talking with someone who had stage 3 prostate cancer and his PSA was very low. He had reluctantly consented for a manual exam... good thing he did. Moderators Bravus Posted November 24, 2012 Author Moderators Posted November 24, 2012 Yeah, they still do it here, but more as an indicator that further investigation is warranted than as a diagnosis. I think the problem of 'false positives' (diagnosing prostate cancer when it was absent) and aggressively treating it, with the costs and side effects of that, was the main problem identified, but 'false negatives' can also be an issue. I'm not a *fan* of the manual examination, but having lost a couple of friends to prostate cancer I'm much less scared of the examination than the disease, and will get the exam as well as the PSA. Getting a full bloodwork panel done as well: which will tell me that I'm OK but could lose some weight and be a bit fitter! A bit of fat on my liver last time, so hopefully that's settled down - apparently can happen when one loses and gains weight, and I've done a bit of that. Anyway, probably way more than anyone wanted to know, but if we're going to talk about men's health we need to talk about men's health! Quote Truth is important

Administrators Gail Posted November 27, 2012 Administrators Posted November 27, 2012 Here is a story, updated often of a young Pastor friend of mine who is in the final stages.. I think he is in his 40's still. Tough times... great guy.... http://silvalining.org Thanks for that- it's been a while since I was updated. I feel so badly for him but as he puts it, in Christ you are a victor. That is what I told Manuel a while back- that nothing, even death, fazes God. My boss is at high risk for this disease, too. His dad died from it and his brother has it. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
