I have a lot of respect for the way they have taken to task the issue of porn addiction especially confronting it within the Christian community. They have started a series of programmes called Porn Sunday and were interviewed on ABC about the programme. Have a read. Would love to here your thoughts? Porn, like anything else, models particular behaviors -- in this case pertinent to sexual interaction -- which then become expectations that leave people in real life confused and dissatisfied where they'd otherwise have no reason to be. Porn is also traditionally exploitive of women, portraying them as mere objects who MUST look a certain way and whose sole purpose is to be sex object for the man's gratification. I think the reason there is so much porn addiction in the church is because people still cling to unhealthy attitudes about sex bred from Puritanical thought. This represses their natural sex drives & lives and sends them looking for a substitute to make up for what they lack in real life. This "substitute" only makes things worse by creating false expectations of how sex should be, when they should instead be exploring how to let go and really enjoy being with their partners and how to view sex in a healthy way as a blessing from God. "Marriage is holy and the bed thereof, undefiled." But this is speculation on my part. There may be other reasons for porn addiction in the church of which I'm not aware.
