NEW YORK (AP) — A Portuguese model has been convicted of murder in the castration killing of a Portuguese TV personality in a hotel room in New York City's Times Square. Twenty-three-year-old Renato Seabra (ren-AH'-toh say-AH'-brah) was convicted Friday of choking, bludgeoning and mutilating Carlos Castro. Castro's bloodied body was found in January 2011. The 65-year-old Castro was also a writer. Manhattan prosecutors say the two were a couple and Seabra was angry Castro had ended their relationship. Seabra's mother disputes the men were together. The defense said Seabra was mentally ill. It said he believed he was on a mission to kill what he saw as the devil of homosexuality in Castro. Seabra could face life in prison. His sentencing is set for Dec. 21. Moderators John317 Posted December 2, 2012 Author Moderators Posted December 2, 2012 Reminds me of the book and film, "The Detective," starring Frank Sinatra, about a gay man who castrates and kills another gay man because he hates his homosexuality. In this case, it looks like the jury believed the prosecution's explanations of the castration-murder. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. SivartM Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 How many people are going to say that this happened because of homosexuality, rather than because of people being taught to hate themselves? Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus

Moderators John317 Posted December 3, 2012 Author Moderators Posted December 3, 2012 SivartM, you're apparently misunderstanding what I said. I didn't say this tragedy happened because of homosexuality. The defense apparently wanted the jury to believe homosexuality had something to do with the murder, but without being more familar with the case, it's hard to say why Castro was castrated and killed. All I know at this point is what the news article reports, and that is superficial and perhaps contains some misinformation.
