“Must Be Fulfilled At The Time Pointed

Out In The Symbolic Service”

By The Prophet E.G. White

“I could say much regarding the sanctuary, the ark containing the law of God, the cover of the ark, which is the mercy seat, the angels at either end of the ark, and other things connected with the heavenly sanctuary and with the great day of atonement. I could say much regarding the mysteries of heaven, but my lips are closed. I have no inclination to try to describe them.” {2MR 320.2}

“Light will come to God's people, and those who have sought to close the door will either repent or be removed out of the way. The time has come when a new impetus must be given to the work. There are terrible scenes before us, and Satan is seeking to keep from our knowledge the very things that God would have us know. God has messengers and messages for his people. If ideas are presented that differ in some points from our former doctrines, we must not condemn them without diligent search of the Bible to see if they are true. We must fast and pray and search the Scriptures as did the noble Bereans, to see if these things are so. We must accept every ray of light that comes to us. Through earnest prayer and diligent study of God's word, dark things will be made plain to the understanding.” ST, May 26, 1890 par. 12

“As the light is diffused, given to others, greater light will come. The reason why the churches sit in darkness and have no light, is that they have not given light, they have not been as a city set upon a hill, that cannot be hid.” RH, February 10, 1891 par. 13

“ Every act of consecration to God brings joy; for as we appreciate the light He has given us, more and greater light will come. ML 174.4

“Yet every mind through whom the Holy Spirit has worked has presented these themes in a light that is fresh and new. The truths of redemption are capable of constant development and expansion. Though old, they are ever new, constantly revealing to the seeker for truth a greater glory and a mightier power.

In every age there is a new development of truth, a message of God to the people of that generation. The old truths are all essential; new truth is not independent of the old, but an unfolding of it. It is only as the old truths are understood that we can comprehend the new. When Christ desired to open to His disciples the truth of His resurrection, He began "at Moses and all the prophets" and "expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself." Luke 24:27. But it is the light which shines in the fresh unfolding of truth that glorifies the old. He who rejects or neglects the new does not really possess the old. For him it loses its vital power and becomes but a lifeless form.” COL 127-128

“Follow every ray of light that you see, and that which is shadowy will be made clear to your understanding as you walk in the light.” ST, January 24, 1895 par. 5

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.” Colossians 2:16,17

“It is when we walk in the light that shines upon us, obeying the truth that is open to our understanding, that we receive greater light. We cannot be excusable in accepting only the light which our fathers had one hundred years ago” ML 310.2 HS 197.1

“There is to be in the [seventh-day Adventist] churches a wonderful manifestation of the power of God, but it will not move upon those who have not humbled themselves before the Lord, and opened the door of the heart by confession and repentance. In the manifestation of that power which lightens the earth with the glory of God, they will see only something which in their blindness they think dangerous, something which will arouse their fears, and they will brace themselves to resist it. Because the Lord does not work according to their ideas and expectations they will oppose the work. "Why," they say, "should we not know the Spirit of God, when we have been in the work so many years?"--RH Extra, Dec. 23, 1890. {LDE 209,10}

“And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.” Daniel 12:9,10

“There can be no stronger evidence in churches that the truths of the Bible have not sanctified the receivers than their attachment to some favorite minister, and their unwillingness to accept and be profited by the labors of some other teacher who is sent to them in the providence of God.” 6BC 1086

“It is not enough to have good intentions; it is not enough to do what a man thinks is right or what the minister tells him is right. His soul's salvation is at stake, and he should search the Scriptures for himself. However strong may be his convictions, however confident he may be that the minister knows what is truth, this is not his foundation. He has a chart pointing out every waymark on the heavenward journey, and he ought not to guess at anything.” DD 38.2 GC88 598.1

“...take the Bible... the Lord has preserved this Holy Book by His own miraculous power in its present shape--a chart or guidebook to the human family to show them the way to heaven. . . .” FLB 13.6

“The Bible … It tells us of the love of God as shown in the plan of redemption, imparting the knowledge essential for all--the knowledge of Christ. He is the Sent of God; He is the Author of our salvation. LHU 130.5

“TYPICAL OF MYSTERIES IN THE PLAN OF REDEMPTION”

“The gospel of Christ reflects glory upon the Jewish age. It sheds light upon the whole Jewish economy, and gives significance to the ceremonial law. The tabernacle, or temple, of God on earth was a pattern of the original in heaven. All the ceremonies of the Jewish law were prophetic, typical of mysteries in the plan of redemption.” 6BC 1095.5

“Christ was the foundation of the Jewish economy. The whole system of types and symbols was a compacted prophecy of the gospel, a presentation in which were bound up the promises of redemption.” AA 14.1

“ In Him the sacrificial types were to meet their anti-type, and His death on the cross was to lend significance to the entire Jewish economy.” AA 227.3

“The past, the history of the Jewish economy from the beginning to the end, instead of being spoken of contemptuously and sneered at as “the dark ages,” will reveal light, and still more light, as it is studied.” CTr 327.3 “it is sacred. Even after it was no longer to be observed,” ST, July 29, 1886

“Christ's mission was not understood by the people of His time. The manner of His coming was not in accordance with their expectations. The Lord Jesus was the foundation of the whole Jewish economy. Its imposing services were of divine appointment. They were designed to teach the people that at the time appointed One would come to whom those ceremonies pointed.” COL 34.3

“With profound and reverent interest the elders of Israel should have been studying the PLACE, the TIME, the circumstances, of the greatest event in the world's history,—the coming of the Son of God to accomplish the redemption of man. All the people should have been watching and waiting that they might be among the first to welcome the world's Redeemer.” GC88 313.1

“When Jesus in the synagogue read from the prophecy, He stopped short of the final specification concerning the Messiah's work. Having read the words, "To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord," He omitted the phrase, "and the day of vengeance of our God." Isaiah 61:2. This was just as much truth as was the first of the prophecy, and by His silence Jesus did not deny the truth. But this last expression was that upon which His hearers delighted to dwell, and which they were desirous of fulfilling.” DA 240

"The light shone in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not." 2SP 84.1

“Few realize the full meaning of the words that Christ spoke when, in the synagogue at Nazareth, He announced Himself as the Anointed One.” AA 416

“In types and symbols the great truths of redemption were veiled. Yet when Christ came, the Jews did not recognize Him to whom all these symbols pointed. They had the word of God in their hands; but the traditions which had been handed down from generation to generation, and the human interpretation of the Scriptures, hid from them the truth as it is in Jesus. The spiritual import of the sacred writings was lost. The treasure house of all knowledge was open to them, but they knew it not.” COL 104.4

“Christ and His mission had been but dimly understood as typified in the shadowy sacrifices. Even John had not fully comprehended the future, immortal life through the Saviour.” DA 220.2

“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And he closed the book, and he gave [it] again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” Luke 4:16-21

“From time to time divinely appointed messengers of truth were to be raised up to call attention to the meaning of the sacrificial ceremonies, and especially to the promise of Jehovah concerning the advent of the One toward whom all the ordinances of the sacrificial system pointed. Thus the world was to be kept from universal apostasy.” PK 687.1

“If they are indeed Christians, they are prepared to acknowledge the sacredness and importance of the shadowy types, as they see the accomplishment of the events which they represent. The death of Christ gives the Christian a correct knowledge of the system of ceremonies and explains prophecies which still remain obscure to the Jews.” RH, May 6, 1875 par. 12

“CREATION SABBATH” “NOT A SHADOW”

“The Sabbath was committed to Adam, the father and representative of the whole human family. Its observance was to be an act of grateful acknowledgment, on the part of all who should dwell upon the earth, that God was their creator and their rightful sovereign; that they were the work of His hands, and the subjects of His authority. Thus the institution was wholly commemorative, and given to all mankind. There was nothing in it SHADOWY, or of restricted application to any people.” FLB 32.2

“The death of Jesus Christ for the redemption of man lifts the veil and reflects a flood of light back hundreds of years, upon the whole institution of the Jewish system of religion. Without the death of Christ all this system was meaningless. The Jews reject Christ, and therefore their whole system of religion is to them indefinite, unexplainable, and uncertain. They attach as much importance to SHADOWY CEREMONIES of types which have met their antitype as they do to the law of the ten commandments, which WAS NOT A SHADOW, but a reality as enduring as the throne of Jehovah. The death of Christ elevates the Jewish system of types and ordinances, showing that they were of divine appointment, and for the purpose of keeping faith alive in the hearts of His people” RH May 6, 1875, 6BC 1097.2

“At last Jesus was at rest. The long day of shame and torture was ended. As the last rays of the setting sun ushered in the Sabbath, the Son of God lay in quietude in Joseph's tomb. His work completed, His hands folded in peace, He rested through the sacred hours of the Sabbath day. … With this scene the day upon which Jesus rested is forever linked. …. When there shall be a "restitution of all things ... the creation Sabbath, the day on which Jesus lay at rest in Joseph's tomb, will still be a day of rest and rejoicing. Heaven and earth will unite in praise, as "from one Sabbath to another" (Isaiah 66:23) the nations of the saved shall bow in joyful worship to God and the Lamb.” DA 769,770

“...the moral law was repeated in awful grandeur from Sinai. Christ gave to Moses religious precepts which were to GOVERN EVERYDAY LIFE. These statutes were explicitly given to guard the ten commandments. They were not SHADOWY TYPES to pass away with the death of Christ. They were to be binding upon men in every age as long as time should last. These commands were enforced by the power of the moral law, and they clearly and definitely explained that law.” Ibid., April 15, 1875 [Reprinted in RH May 6, 1875]). 1BC 1104.6

“THE LATTER RAIN” “THE KEY THAT UNLOCKS ITS MYSTERIES”

“The significance of the Jewish economy is NOT YET fully comprehended. Truths vast and profound are shadowed forth in its rites and symbols. The gospel is the key that unlocks its mysteries.” COL 133

“He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” Matt. 13:11, Luke 8:10

“I was taken off in vision. . . . I saw that we sensed and realized but little of the importance of the Sabbath, to what we yet should realize and know of its importance and glory. . . . But when the refreshing and latter rain shall come from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power . . . . Then shall we see the Sabbath more in its importance and glory. But we shall not see it in all its glory and importance until the covenant of peace is made with us at the voice of God, . . . .” Mar 245

“But there was one clear place of settled glory, whence came the voice of God … Then commenced the jubilee, when the land should rest.” EW 34-25

“I saw that God had children, who do not see and keep the Sabbath. They had not rejected the light on it. And at the commencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth, and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully. This enraged the church, and nominal Adventists, as they could not refute the Sabbath truth. And at this time, God's chosen all saw clearly that we had the truth, and they came out and endured the persecution with us. And I saw the sword, famine, pestilence, and great confusion in the land. The wicked thought that we had brought the judgments down on them. They rose up and took counsel to rid the earth of us, thinking that then the evil would be stayed”. Broadside3, April 7, 1847 par. 4

“SHADOW SABBATHS” “SABBATHS BESIDE THE SABBATHS OF THE LORD”

“And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep.' Some, who have been anxious to make of none effect the law of God, have quoted this word "Sabbaths," interpreting it to mean the annual Sabbaths of the Jews. ”-- RH, August 30, 1898 par. 9 EGW

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink,or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath [days]: Which are a shadow of things to come;” Colossians 2:16, 17

“One day as Elder Corliss stepped out of a train, the guard [conductor] stopped him with the request that he explain Colossians 2:16. They stopped, and as the crowd rushed by, the explanation was given, and from Leviticus 23:37, 38 it was shown that there were sabbaths besides the Sabbath of the Lord.” RH, January 7, 1896 par. 14

“Beside the Sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the LORD. Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day [shall be] a Sabbath, and on the eighth day [shall be] a Sabbath. Leviticus 23:37, 39

“...these mystic symbols and shadowy types pointing to a Saviour to come,” TMK 101.3

“THE THIRD DAY”

“The Passover was followed by the seven days' feast of unleavened bread. On the second day of the feast, the first fruits of the year's harvest, a sheaf of barley, was presented before the Lord. All the ceremonies of the feast were types of the work of Christ.” DA 77

“The Passover was followed by the seven day's feast of unleavened bread. The first and the seventh day were days of holy convocation, when no servile work was to be performed. On the second day of the feast, the first fruits of the year's harvest were presented before God. Barley was the earliest grain in Palestine, and at the opening of the feast it was beginning to ripen. A sheaf of this grain was waved by the priest before the altar of God, as an acknowledgment that all was His. Not until this ceremony had been performed was the harvest to be gathered.” PP 539.4

“And on the fifteenth day of the same month [is] the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.” Leviticus 23:6

“And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.” Leviticus 23:11

“These types were fulfilled, not only as to the event, but as to the time. On the fourteenth day of the first Jewish month, the very day and month on which, for fifteen long centuries, the passover lamb had been slain, Christ, having eaten the passover with his disciples, instituted that feast which was to commemorate his own death as “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. That same night he was taken by wicked hands, to be crucified and slain. And as the antitype of the wave-sheaf, our Lord was raised from the dead on the third day, “the first-fruits of them that slept,” [1 Corinthians 15:20.]. . .” GC 399

“And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be complete: Even unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath shall ye number fifty days;” Leviticus 23:15,16. KJV

“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first [day] of the month, shall ye have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets” Leviticus 23:24.

“Also on the tenth [day] of this seventh month [there shall be] a day of atonement: . . . It [shall be] unto you a Sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth [day] of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your Sabbath.” Leviticus 23:27-32. KJV

“ Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day [shall be] a Sabbath, and on the eighth day [shall be] a Sabbath. Leviticus 23:39 KJV

“SABBATHS OF YEARS”

“At the end of [every] seven years thou shalt make a release.… it is called the LORD'S release.” Deuteronomy 15:1-2

“When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a Sabbath unto the LORD.” Leviticus 25:2

“And thou shalt number seven Sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.” Leviticus 25:8

“SOLEMNITY OF THE YEAR OF RELEASE

“And the LORD spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying,. . . . But in the seventh year shall be a Sabbath of rest unto the land, a Sabbath for the LORD:” Leviticus 25:1-4. KJV

“And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of [every] seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,

When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that [is] within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law.

And [that] their children, which have not known [any thing], may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, ” Deuteronomy 31:10-13 KJV

“JUBILE YEAR”

“Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth [day] of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout [all] the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you;” Leviticus 25:9-10 KJV

“THESE TYPES WERE FULFILLED,NOT ONLY

AS TO THE EVENT, BUT AS TO THE TIME...IN LIKE MANNER...”

“As you give heed to the light you have, greater light will come.” From the Mount of Blessing, pp. 147-150). LHU 195.5

“There were symbols and shadowy types pointing to a Saviour to come; ... The sacrificial system was designed to typify the Saviour, who was to become the perfect offering for sinful man.” ST, June 3, 1886 par. 1

“...the shadowy services of the former dispensation were no longer of any value,--when type had met antitype in the death of Christ,...” RH, September 14, 1886 par. 14

And as the antitype of the wave-sheaf, our Lord was raised from the dead on the third day, “the first-fruits of them that slept,” [1 Corinthians 15:20.]. . .

In like manner, the types which relate to the second advent must be fulfilled at the time pointed out in the symbolic service. Under the Mosaic system, the cleansing of the sanctuary, or the great day of atonement, occurred on the tenth day of the seventh Jewish month, [Leviticus 16:29-34.]. . .” GC88 399, PP539.4 RH, November 22, 1892 par. 7

The time of test is just upon us, for the loud cry of the third angel has already begun in the revelation of the righteousness of Christ, the sin-pardoning Redeemer. This is the beginning of the light of the angel whose glory shall fill the whole earth. For it is the work of every one to whom the message of warning has come, to lift up Jesus, to present Him to the world as revealed in types, as shadowed in symbols, as manifested in the revelations of the prophets, as unveiled in the lessons given to His disciples and in the wonderful miracles wrought for the sons of men. Search the Scriptures; for they are they that testify of Him. 1SM 362.4

“These truths, as presented in Revelation 14, in connection with the “everlasting gospel,” will distinguish the church of Christ at the time of his appearing. For as the result of the threefold message it is announced, “Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” And this message is the last to be given before the coming of the Lord. Immediately following its proclamation, the Son of man is seen by the prophet, coming in glory to reap the harvest of the earth.” GC88 453, 454.

“The people of God everywhere are to be aroused to co-operate in the great, grand work represented by the first, second, and third angel's messages. This last warning to the inhabitants of the earth is to make men see the importance God attaches to his holy law. So plainly is the truth to be presented, that no transgressor, hearing it, shall fail to discern the importance of obedience to the Sabbath commandment.” RH, March 26, 1908

“The first, second, and third angels' messages are to be repeated. The call is to be given to the church: "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird." RH, October 31, 1899 par. 11

“My mind was carried to the future, when the signal will be given. "Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him." But some will have delayed to obtain the oil for replenishing their lamps, and too late they will find that character, which is represented by the oil, is not transferable. RH, February 11, 1896

“There is to be in the [seventh-day Adventist] churches a wonderful manifestation of the power of God, but it will not move upon those who have not humbled themselves before the Lord, and opened the door of the heart by confession and repentance. In the manifestation of that power which lightens the earth with the glory of God, they will see only something which in their blindness they think dangerous, something which will arouse their fears, and they will brace themselves to resist it. Because the Lord does not work according to their ideas and expectations they will oppose the work. "Why," they say, "should we not know the Spirit of God, when we have been in the work so many years?"--RH Extra, Dec. 23, 1890. LDE 209.3

“The third angel's message will not be comprehended, the light which will lighten the earth with its glory will be called a false light, by those who refuse to walk in its advancing glory.”--RH May 27, 1890. LDE 210.1

"And He [Christ] gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of communicating with him upon Mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written by the finger of God. Nothing written on those tables could be blotted out. The precious record of the law was placed in the ark of the testament and IS STILL THERE, safely hidden from the human family. But in GOD'S APPOINTED TIME He will bring forth these tables of stone to be a testimony to all the world against the disregard of His commandments and against the idolatrous worship of a counterfeit Sabbath" (MS 122, 1901). 1BC1109.

"The tables of stone are hidden by God TO BE PRODUCED IN THE GREAT JUDGMENT DAY

just as He wrote them.” Review and Herald, March 26, 1908.

“God will not break His covenant, nor alter the thing that has gone out of His lips. His word will stand fast forever as unalterable as His throne. AT THE JUDGMENT this covenant will be BROUGHT FORTH, plainly written with the finger of God, and the world will be arraigned before the bar of Infinite Justice to receive sentence.” PK 187.1

“When the JUDGMENT SHALL SIT, and the BOOKS SHALL BE OPENED, and EVERY MAN shall be judged according to the things written in the books, then the tables of stone, hidden by God UNTIL THAT DAY, will be presented before the world as the standard of righteousness, Then men and women will see that the PREREQUISITE of their salvation is obedience to the perfect law of God, None will find excuse for sin. By the righteous principles of that law, men will receive their sentence of LIFE or of death.” The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, January 28,1909.

“The judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For many years this work has been in progress. Soon—none know how soon—it will pass to the cases of the living. In the awful presence of God our lives are to come up in review. At this time above all others it behooves every soul to heed the Saviour's admonition: "Watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is." Mark 13:33. CCh 349.1

“But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 4-6

“When the work of the investigative judgment closes, the destiny of all will have been decided for LIFE or DEATH. Probation is ended a short time before the appearing of the Lord in the clouds of heaven. Christ in the Revelation, looking forward to that time, declares: "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still:....." Revelation 22:11, 12. The righteous and the wicked will still be living upon the earth in their mortal state—men will be planting and building, eating and drinking, all unconscious that the final, irrevocable decision has been pronounced in the sanctuary above. Silently, unnoticed as the midnight thief, will come the decisive hour which marks the fixing of every man's destiny, the final withdrawal of mercy's offer to guilty men.” CCh 349

“And thou shalt number seven Sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.

Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth [day] of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout [all] the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you:” Leviticus 25:8-11. KJV

“And when the never-ending blessing was pronounced on those who had honored God in keeping His Sabbath holy, there was a mighty shout of victory over the beast and over his image.

Then commenced the jubilee, when the land should rest. I saw the pious slave rise in triumph and victory and shake off the chains that bound him, while his wicked master was in confusion and knew not what to do; for the wicked could not understand the words of the voice of God.” EW 34,35.

“All the ceremonies of the Jewish law were prophetic, typical of mysteries in the plan of redemption.” 6BC 1095.5

Greetings Gerhard,

Thank you for commenting.

It is very amazing how difficult it is for us to see the unfolding of truth. The disciples also found it difficult. When Christ tried to show them just how He would be taken and crucified they absolutely could not comprehend it. They had been conditioned to believe that the Messiah would come as a conquering king, not as a babe born in a manger. So He said to them, "I have many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear them now."

If we as Adventists would totally accept Jesus' interpretation of the shadowy types of the sanctuary, as emphasized by the prophet, Ellen G. White, we would understand more of the importance and glory of the seventh-day Sabbath and the implications of its' relationship to the old sanctuary.

Posted

I praise God for giving Ellen White the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to write these statements in just the way she wrote them.

May we seek for the depth of meaning in them.

Any blessing that you have received comes from God in these writings.

"A still small voice breaks the silence. . ."

"And the Lord said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first; and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest." In writing the law upon tables of stone it was God's design to teach men the lasting character of his law, and the perpetual obligation of all mankind to obey that law which is the transcript of his character. {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 6}

At the very beginning of the fourth precept God said, "Remember," knowing that man, in the multitude of his cares and perplexities, would be tempted to excuse himself from meeting the full requirements of the law, or in the press of worldly business would forget its sacred importance. It is not the first day, or any common day, but the seventh that God has blessed and set apart for a sacred use. As he surveyed his work of creation, he saw that it was very good, and he rested on that day. And he designed that man should keep it holy because he himself on that day had rested. The teachers of our day, however high their claims to sanctity, who would pronounce the law of God Jewish, are wresting the Scriptures, misleading the people, and making God's law of none effect. The Sabbath was given to Adam and Eve in Eden for all their posterity. The Jews were not more closely related to Adam than were any of the other nations on the earth. Instead of losing its force now, the law is to be more fully understood. When the typical sacrifices ceased at the death of Christ, the original, as engraved on the tables of stone, stood immutable, holding its claims upon men in all ages. And in the Christian age the duty of man is not limited, but more especially defined and simply expressed. {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 7}

God rested on the seventh day, not merely to furnish an example to the Jews. The Sabbath commandment is obligatory upon all men to the end of time. And not only this, its observance is to be carried into the future world, to be perpetuated throughout eternity. {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 8}

God has given man six days in which to do his work, and carry on the usual business of life; but he claims one day, which he has blessed and sanctified. And he gives this to man as a day in which he can rest from labor and devote himself to the worship of his Maker. It is the grossest presumption for mortal man to venture upon a compromise with the Almighty in order to secure his own petty temporal interests. "I the Lord thy God am a jealous God," was thundered from Sinai. No partial obedience, no divided interest, is accepted by him who declares that the iniquities of the fathers shall be visited upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate him and that he will show mercy unto thousands of generations of them that love him, and keep his commandments. {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 9}

Christ was the foundation of the whole Jewish economy, and in all his specific directions regarding the ceremonial observances, these were distinguished from the Decalog. They were to pass away. Type was to meet antitype in the one great offering of Christ for the sins of the world. {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 10}

Christ and his disciples kept the Sabbath. When accused of breaking the Sabbath by rubbing the ears of wheat in his hands and eating with his disciples to satisfy his hunger, he denied the charge made against him. He assured his accusers that they had condemned the guiltless; for he had done only those things that were perfectly in harmony with the Sabbath commandment. If the priests and rulers could have substantiated their accusation, they would have had no need to suborn men to bear false witness against God at his trial. {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 11}

The death of Christ upon the cross shows the immutability of the law of God. His death magnified the law and made it honorable. From his own divine lips are heard the words: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Mrs. E. G. White {ST, July 29, 1897 par. 12}

What was the "blessing from God in these writings" for you, Jonnboy, that “you have received”?

What is the truth to be found in the Spirit of Prophecy statements given in this study?

The short answer to your question is that I have perceived the “unfolding of truth”. The truths of the past I see in a new setting, a reapplication of the prophecies, if you will, for our own time and into the future, always following the timing of the typical old sanctuary system of types, which were all prophetic.

The long answer will follow:

In our study of the truth from the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy, we need not depend upon uninspired commentaries. The word of God to us is: Isaiah 2:22- “Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils;”

The Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy explain themselves, but it is up to us to accumulate the evidence upon the topic to be studied and with the aid of the Holy Spirit, to decide on the truth from where the weight of the evidence lies. With much prayer, we are able to logically determine truth from this weight of inspired evidence.

“We must accept every ray of light that comes to us. Through earnest prayer and diligent study of God's word, dark things will be made plain to the understanding.” ST, May 26, 1890.

The statement above gives one of the conditions we must comply with, to be able to comprehend the unfolding of truth. “We must accept every ray of light...”

“The truths of redemption are capable of constant development and expansion. Though old, they are ever new, constantly revealing to the seeker for truth a GREATER GLORY and a MIGHTIER POWER.” COL 127

This means that the plan of redemption has truths that are constantly unfolding. The plan of redemption was typified in the old sanctuary system under Moses. Therefore, the study of the significance of each part of this system will continually show us deeper insight into the plan of redemption.

Continuing the statement above, “In every age there is a new development of truth, a message of God to the people of that generation. The old truths are all essential; new truth is not independent of the old, but an unfolding of it. It is only as the old truths are understood that we can comprehend the new.” COL 127

“When Christ desired to open to His disciples the truth of His resurrection, He began "AT MOSES and all the prophets"and "expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself." Luke 24:27. But it is the light which shines in the fresh unfolding of truth that glorifies the old. He who rejects or neglects the new does not really possess the old. For him it loses its vital power and becomes but a lifeless form.” COL 127. 128

Where did Christ begin when He desired to open truth to the disciples?--at Moses and all the prophets. Moses was the one chosen to record specific details of the entire typical system. Therefore, we must begin with Moses writings in the unfolding of the plan of salvation.

Ellen White states that if we are really Christians, we will acknowledge the importance of the types as we see the accomplishment of the events represented by them.

Here is her statement:

“Christians who profess to be Bible students can appreciate more fully than ancient Israel did the full signification of the ceremonial ordinances that they were required to observe. If they are indeed Christians, they are prepared to acknowledge the sacredness and importance of the shadowy types, as they see the accomplishment of the events which they represent.” RH May 6, 1875

Focusing the attention on the typical system of the old sanctuary was VERY IMPORTANT for the disciples to arrive at the truth of Christ's resurrection, but there was another far-reaching effect that this focus would have on the entire world.

“From time to time divinely appointed messengers of truth were to be raised up to CALL ATTENTION to the meaning of the sacrificial ceremonies, and especially to the promise of Jehovah concerning the advent of the One toward whom all the ordinances of the sacrificial system pointed. THUS THE WORLD WAS TO BE KEPT FROM UNIVERSAL APOSTASY.” PK 687

“The Lord Jesus was the foundation of the whole Jewish economy. Its imposing services were of divine appointment. They were designed to teach the people that at the time appointed One would come to whom those ceremonies pointed.” COL 34

What were these services designed to teach? That at the time appointed One would come...

'With profound and reverent interest the elders of Israel should have been studying THE PLACE, THE TIME, THE CIRCUMSTANCES, of the greatest event in the world's history,—the coming of the Son of God to accomplish the redemption of man. All the people should have been watching and waiting....” GC88 313

What does the first part of the above statement mean in relation to the second advent? Granted we are not to know the definite time of the second advent until the Father's voice speaks this at the time of the deliverance. But Paul tells us that we are the “children of light” and should not be in darkness or asleep so that day catches us unawares.

1 Thessalonians 5:1 “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.”

“The significance of the Jewish economy is not yet fully comprehended. Truths vast and profound are shadowed forth in its rites and symbols. THE GOSPEL is the key that unlocks its mysteries.” COL 132

“The gospel is the key that unlocks its mysteries.”

How can we understand the gospel in the specific events and in the timing of these events? By a study of the significance of the Jewish economy and of the interpretation that Christ gave in His fulfillment of the types that related to His first advent. He is the true Interpreter of these types.

“The true Interpreter must come. The One whom all these types prefigured must explain their significance.” DA 33, 34.

When we thoroughly study Christ's fulfillment of the types at His first advent, we gain insight into the significance of the types that relate to the second advent. At this point we could break off into a much larger study of His fulfillment of the types- the holy days and the “shadow” Sabbaths, which were “Sabbaths besides the Sabbaths of the Lord..” Leviticus 23:38, 39, etc. I will give this later in another post rather than making this post more lengthy.

Have we been studying and gaining deeper insight into the truth of the types which relate to the second advent? to the Jubilee, for instance, which was the end of the typical service of the old sanctuary?

Ellen White states, “Then commenced the Jubilee, when the land should rest.” EW 285, 286.

Posted

Her statement is made in connection with the deliverance of the saints from the death decree when the plagues are falling.

While Christ was on earth, He proclaimed a Jubilee on the Sabbath Day of Atonement in the synagogue at Nazareth. With this evidence, have we seen the implications of His announcement of the Jubilee?

The Spirit of Prophecy states that,

“Few realize the full meaning of the words that Christ spoke when, in the synagogue at Nazareth, He announced Himself as the Anointed One.” AA 416

I understand from the Spirit of Prophecy evidence that the latter rain of the Holy Spirit is given to enable God's people to give the final gospel message and during the time of the “loud cry” the Sabbath will be proclaimed “more fully”. The third angel's message warning of receiving the mark of the beast will be given and the tables of stone given to Moses will be displayed before the world to demonstrate God's law as the standard of the judgment of the living before they receive the sentence of life or of death.

"And He [Christ] gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of communicating with him upon Mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written by the finger of God." Nothing written on those tables could be blotted out. The precious record of the law was placed in the ark of the testament and is still there, safely hidden from the human family. But in God's appointed time He will bring forth these tables of stone to be a testimony to all the world against the disregard of His commandments and against the idolatrous worship of a counterfeit Sabbath.”. 1BC 1109

“When the judgment shall sit, and the books shall be opened, and every man shall be judged according to the things written in the books, then the tables of stone, hidden by God until that day, will be presented before the world as the standard of righteousness. Then men and women will see that the prerequisite of their salvation is obedience to the perfect law of God. None will find excuse for sin. By the righteous principles of that law, men will receive their sentence of life or of death.” RH Jan. 28, 1909

“ I saw that we sensed and realized but little of the importance of the Sabbath, to what we yet should realize and know of its importance and glory. I saw we knew not what it was yet to ride upon the high places of the earth and to be fed with the heritage of Jacob. But when the refreshing and latter rain shall come from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power we shall know what it is to be fed with the heritage of Jacob and ride upon the high places of the earth. Then shall we see the Sabbath more in its importance and glory. But we shall not see it in all its glory and importance until the covenant of peace is made with us at the voice of God,...” Maranatha 245

“The time of test is just upon us, for the loud cry of the third angel has already begun in the revelation of the righteousness of Christ, the sin-pardoning Redeemer. Search the Scriptures; for they are they that testify of him.” RH, November 22, 1892

In the final message Christ will be presented:

“as revealed in types “

“as shadowed in symbols”

“as manifested in the revelations of the prophets”

“as unveiled in the lessons given to His disciples”

“in the wonderful miracles wrought for the sons of men.”

Actually, my three posts earlier today were given in answer to a question by Gerhard, asking how I had been blessed by my study of the Spirit of Prophecy statements which I gave to open this thread.

Or, if you were meaning the point of this last post--no, it was not an argument for not keeping feast days. In context, this statement is referring to the rejection of righteousness by faith in Christ as given at the Minneapolis conference in 1888. Ellen White connects this message to the loud cry under the third angel which presents Jesus, the all-pardoning Saviour as revealed in types and shadowed in symbols. "Types" and "symbols" directing connects Jesus' fulfillment at His first advent of the feast days and "shadow" Sabbaths of the old sanctuary system.

The Spirit of Prophecy statements focus entirely on the prophetic nature of the whole typical system and how the sanctuary truth is to be unfolded or expanded with deeper significance to each generation.

Gerhard,

I know some of your posts previously had referred to the Passover and the Bone-day.

Without being tedious to you, would you explain just what you were referring to in that connection?

Thank you.

GOD REVEALS MYSTERIES IN HIS PLAN OF SALVATION THROUGH JESUS' FULFILLMENT OF THE OLD COVENANT TYPES

The schedule of God's plan of salvation is very clearly and distinctly revealed in the Bible (KJV). This plan is revealed in both the events to take place, and in the exact and precise timing of all these events, WHICH RELATE TO BOTH THE FIRST AND SECOND COMING OF JESUS.

God had chosen Moses as the leader of His ancient people to preserve for the human race this precise and intricate plan, through a fifty-year cycle of ceremonies, a series of rehearsals, in the old Hebrew sanctuary system, which was an exact copy of the original sanctuary in heaven.

“And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show thee, [after] the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make [it].” Exodus 25:8, 9; “...Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, [that] thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount.” Hebrews 8:5.

God's plan or His way would be shown through the services of this sanctuary.“Thy way, O God, [is] in the sanctuary:” Psalms 77:13. God had committed the oracles of the sanctuary to the Jewish people.

“What advantage then hath the Jew? Much every way:.. chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” Romans 3:1, 2

The sanctuary services culminated in the complete liberation of all slaves, as illustrated by the year of Jubilee, the closing ceremony of the fifty-year cycle. (Leviticus chapter 23 to chapter 25 KJV). Within this fifty-year period were certain ceremonies to be performed at specific times on certain special days, in special prophetic weeks, in specific months during the year, together, with other ceremonies to be performed only in certain designated years (Deuteronomy 31:10-13, Leviticus 25:8-10). This entire round of ceremonies was prophetic, typical of mysteries in God's plan of salvation.

(“ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” Matt. 13:11, Luke 8:10)

The significance and meaning of all these ceremonies and of the exact timing of each of these ceremonies could only be interpreted by the true Interpreter, who was none other than its Originator, Jesus the Messiah, the Lamb of God, who would come at the appointed times to fulfill to the finest detail every aspect of each one of these prophetic rituals.

There were seven annual feasts (Leviticus 23:4-42) requiring attendance at the sanctuary. Four were scheduled from the first new moon after the spring equinox, which was the first day of the first month of the sacred year, beginning with the Passover on the 14th day of this first month (Leviticus 23:5-16 KJV), Unleavened Bread, beginning the 15th day, Wave Sheaf, the 16th day, and culminating the 52nd day on the Day of Pentecost (Leviticus 23:15, 16 KJV). The remaining three annual feasts were scheduled from the new moon of the seventh month, beginning on the 1st day of the month with the Feast of Trumpets, then on the 10th day, the Day of Atonement, and on the 15th day began the Feast of Tabernacles which ended on the 22nd day of that same month (Leviticus 23:24-43).

Scattered among these spring and fall feasts were twelve special days that were designated as “Sabbaths”. These were not the Sabbaths of the Lord, the weekly 7th day Sabbath of creation, found within the ten commandments. These were specified to be Sabbaths “besides the Sabbaths of the Lord....” (Leviticus 23:38,39 KJV). They fell on different days of the week each year in a perfect 7-day sequence, scheduled from the new moon, as were the feasts, themselves. Paul, the Apostle, referred to these “Sabbaths” in Colossians 2:16, 17 (KJV), as a “shadow of things to come”, meaning that they were prophetic in nature, and thus were destined to fall on the weekly 7th day Sabbath, the Sabbath of the Lord, in the year of their fulfillment.

There were also prophetic weeks used to calculate the time of the “shadow” Sabbaths leading to the Day of Pentecost (Feast of Weeks) (Leviticus 23:15,16, Exodus 34). These “shadow” weeks were calculated entirely from the new moon, both in the ancient and in the more recent Hebrew calendars.

In addition to the “shadow” Sabbath days, were certain years specified as “Sabbath” years, having a perpetual seven-year cycle. After numbering seven of these “Sabbath” years, equaling a total of 49 years, came the year culminating the entire prophetic cycle, the 50th year, known as the Jubilee year (Leviticus 25 KJV), which was also the first year in the next seven-year cycle of years.

On the Day of Atonement of the Sabbath year certain classes of slaves received their freedom (Deuteronomy 15:1, 12 KJV), while all other slaves waited until the Day of Atonement of the Jubilee year to be set at liberty (Leviticus 25:9-10 KJV).

In contrast with the 52 days of the spring feasts, which were observed unvaried every year, the Sabbath year was especially designated as the year of the fulfillment of the fall feasts, in that there were additional ceremonies being performed during the 22 days of the fall feasts only in that year. In this Sabbath year during the eight days of the Feast of Tabernacles the law of God was taught to the men, women, children and the stranger (Deuteronomy 31:10-13 KJV). The Day of Atonement is the only fall feast with extra special significance in both years, the Sabbath year and the year of Jubilee, with its greatest significance being in the year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25:8-10 KJV) .

The entire 50-year prophetic cycle of the old sanctuary system can only be understood by the interpretation that the Messiah, Jesus, gave through His fulfillment and teaching of the ceremonies or types related to His first coming.

By His fulfillment of the Jubilee, He divided the Jubilee prophecy of Isaiah 61 into two distinct fulfillments, “To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,” in His public ministry at His first coming, and, “the day of vengeance of our God” just before His second coming. In the synagogue on the Sabbath, the Day of Atonement of the Jubilee year, 27 C.E., He proclaimed the Jubilee by reading the Jubilee prophecy of Isaiah 61:1, 2 KJV (Luke 4:16-21 KJV). He stopped in the middle of the sentence, omitting the phrase, “and the day of vengeance of our God.” (“great and dreadful day of the LORD:” Malachi 4:5) He closed the book and then proclaimed, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” Luke 4:21 KJV, thus the Messiah fulfilled the “shadow” Sabbath specifications of the Day of Atonement in the Jubilee year by its fulfillment on a 7th day Sabbath that year. (Also notice the Bible cross-referencing for Luke 4:16-21 and Isaiah 61:1,2 which refer back to Leviticus 25:8-10)

Josephus, the first century Jewish historian, in the book, “JOSEPHUS COMPLETE WORKS,” p. 706, begins his list of the ancient Jubilee years with the year, “1787-1786 B.C.E.” and ends the list with his last recorded Jubilee year of “27-28 C.E.” the year that Jesus proclaimed the Jubilee.

The ancient Hebrew calendar (Hillel I) begins the new year with the new moon after the spring equinox, and ends the following spring with the first new moon after the spring equinox. Later, the Hillel II calendar adopted between 354 C.E. and 360 C.E. began with the nearest new moon to the spring equinox, which could be either before it or after it. There were only 7 months in this sacred year involving the sanctuary services, although the count of the months continued until the new moon after the next spring equinox. The end of the seventh month was generally considered the end of the sacred year. (Exodus 23:14-17, 34:22-23)

In the ancient Hebrew writings is recorded an amazing prophecy made by Elijah, the prophet, regarding the appearing of the Messiah in connection with the Jubilee year. “Elijah told Judah, the brother of Sala Hasida, 'The world will endure not less than 85 Jubilees, and on the last Jubilee the Son of David will come.” (Sanh.97b) from the book, Sabbatical Year and Jubilee, p. 581-582 (Jewish Synagogue Library)

(No one knows exactly how long the earth endured from the creation of the world until man fell into sin, but it would not have been much over the time of two Jubilees (a period of 98 years), as Adam's third son was born when Adam was one hundred and thirty years old (Genesis 5:3) and Abel had just been killed by Cain. From the entrance of sin until the Jubilee year of 27 C.E. when Jesus started His public ministry, could have been about 4067 years or 83 Jubilee cycles, which consequently would have been 85 Jubilees after creation, fitting exactly this recorded prophecy of Elijah)

In these same ancient Hebrew writings is stated,

“The sages ... reckoned the historical order and the end of time by Sabbatical Years and Jubilees.” from the book, Sabbatical Year and Jubilee, p. 581 (Jewish Synagogue Library)

“Israel counted 17 Jubilees from the time they entered the land to the time they left it” (Ar. 12b). from the book, Sabbatical Year and Jubilee, p. 581 (Jewish Synagogue Library)

God's instruction to Moses was that they should begin the count from the time they entered the land of Canaan.

“Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a Sabbath unto the LORD. Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and gather in the fruit thereof; But in the seventh year shall be a Sabbath of rest unto the land, ... thou shalt number seven Sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years...Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month,...And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty...” Leviticus 25:2-4, 9, 10

Christ's fulfillment of the Jubilee on the 7th day Sabbath, the Day of Atonement of that Jubilee year, in the autumn of 27 C.E., gives us the interpretation of the final fulfillment of the Jubilee, “the day of vengeance of our God,” Isaiah 61:1, 2 KJV, which will, also, occur on the Day of Atonement, on a 7th day Sabbath of a future Jubilee year.

Three and one-half years after the Messiah's fulfillment of the Jubilee at His first coming, He fulfilled the spring feasts in the middle of the 70th week of years, according to Daniel's prophecy (Daniel 9:24, 25, 27 KJV), when He offered up His life as the Lamb of God at the exact time, the ninth hour, corresponding to 3:00 p.m., that the Passover Lamb was to be killed on Passover (Matthew 27).

“From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.” Matthew 16:21, Matthew 17:22,23, Matthew 20:17-19, Mark 9:31,32, Mark 10:32-34, Luke 9:21,22, Luke 13:32, Luke 18:33, Luke 24:7,8. All texts from the King James Version.

“But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done..... And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” Luke 24:21, 27 KJV

“And he said unto them, These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and [in] the prophets, and [in] the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:” Luke 24:44-46 KJV

In the year, 31 C.E. when the Messiah was crucified, all eight of the “shadow” Sabbaths of the spring feasts (Leviticus 23:15, 16 KJV) occurred on Holy 7th day Sabbaths, the first one of these eight was the day after the crucifixion when the Messiah rested in Joseph's tomb, with the last one of these eight being the day before the fulfillment of the Day of Pentecost, “from the morrow after the sabbath,...; seven sabbaths shall be complete:... after the seventh sabbath”(Leviticus 23:15, 16 KJV “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,...And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:1,4 KJV.

By the Messiah's fulfillment of the “shadow Sabbath” falling on the Holy 7th day Sabbath, the day after His crucifixion, He interpreted the prophetic “shadow” Sabbaths that were dispersed throughout the spring and fall feast days, showing clearly that these “shadow” Sabbaths are prophetic of Holy 7th day Sabbaths in the designated year of the fulfillment of the spring and fall feast days.

“...that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was an high day,)” John 19:31 KJV.

“High Day” was, and is, the term used whenever “shadow” Sabbaths fall on Holy 7th day Sabbaths. He rose from the dead on the “third day”, the day that the Wave Sheaf offering was to be presented before the Lord, which always took place on the 16th day of the first month.

“And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.” Leviticus 23:11 KJV.

Josephus, the first century Jewish historian, states that the Wave Sheaf offering was always waved on the 16th day of the first month.

Josephus, a renowned Pharisee; [Antiquities III, Chapter X, Paragraph 5]

"In the month of Xanthicus, which is by us called Nisan, and is the beginning of our year, on the fourteenth day of the lunar month, when the sun is in Aries, (for in this month it was that we were delivered from bondage under the Egyptians,) the law ordained that we should every year slay that sacrifice which I before told you we slew when we came out of Egypt, and which was called the Passover; and so we do celebrate this passover in companies, leaving nothing of what we sacrifice till the day following. The feast of unleavened bread succeeds that of the passover, and falls on the fifteenth day of the month, and continues seven days, wherein they feed on unleavened bread; on every one of which days two bulls are killed, and one ram, and seven lambs. Now these lambs are entirely burnt, besides the kid of the goats which is added to all the rest, for sins; for it is intended as a feast for the priest on every one of those days. But on the second day of unleavened bread, which is the sixteenth day of the month, they first partake of the fruits of the earth, for before that day they do not touch them. And while they suppose it proper to honor God, from whom they obtain this plentiful provision, in the first place, they offer the first-fruits ,of their barley and that in the manner following: They take a handful of the ears, and dry them, then beat them small, and purge the barley from the bran; they then bring one tenth deal to the altar, to God; and, casting one handful of it upon the fire, they leave the rest for the use of the priest. And after this it is that they may publicly or privately reap their harvest. They also at this participation of the first-fruits of the earth, sacrifice a lamb, as a burnt-offering to God. " Josephus, a renowned Pharisee; Antiquities III, Chapter X, Paragraph 5

The ancient Hebrew calendar, the Hillel I calendar, was used from the time of Moses and was in use during the time of the crucifixion and used until approximately the middle of the 4th century when the Hillel II calendar was adopted, which is still in use today, illustrated by the perpetual Hebrew calendar, “Hebcal”. Both calendars have always designated the waving of the Wave Sheaf on the 16th day of the first month.

To summarize, then, using the Messiah's interpretation of the prophetic types or feasts of the old sanctuary system, through His fulfillment at His first coming, the following principles are evident.

He fulfilled the spring feasts within the 52-day period from the Passover to the Day of Pentecost exactly, as illustrated by the type (Leviticus 23:5-16). He died at the time of the slaying of the Passover lamb at the ninth hour of the day, which is the equivalent to 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon, the 14th day of the first Hebrew month. This was the day of the Passover, the day before the “shadow” Sabbath. Passover fell on a Friday that year. Again, exactly as the type prophesied that it must.

This “shadow” Sabbath was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the 15th day of the first Hebrew month, and overlaid the Holy 7th day Sabbath that year, being called a “High Sabbath”.

The Wave Sheaf ceremony which was “on the morrow after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it,” (Leviticus 23:11 KJV) was observed on the second day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the 16th day of the first Hebrew month. This 16th day fell on a Sunday that year, 31 C.E. The Messiah's resurrection fulfilled this ceremony on the exact day of the week as the type had prophesied.

From this second day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, seven “shadow” Sabbaths, or seven complete (lunar-based) weeks (or 49 days) were to be counted to reach to the day before the Day of Pentecost (Leviticus 23:15, 16). The Day of Pentecost fell on the day after the seventh “shadow” Sabbath, also, a Sunday that year. Thus, all eight of the “shadow” Sabbaths in the spring feasts that year occurred on 7th day Sabbaths, exactly as prophesied by Moses.

WHENEVER the new moon falls on a 7th day Sabbath, all of the “shadow” Sabbaths scheduled from that NEW MOON, also fall on 7th day Sabbaths, whether in the first month of the year or the seventh month of the year. All twelve of these “shadow” Sabbaths are thus destined to fall on seventh-day Sabbaths in their fulfillment. THIS FACT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO COMPREHEND.

In order for a complete fulfillment of the types or ceremonies relating to the second coming, all the specifications given in Moses' writings must be met, according to the manner in which the types relating to Christ's first appearing were fulfilled by Jesus the Messiah.

This would entail a fulfillment of the fall feasts within the 22 literal days, as illustrated by the type, and as interpreted by the Messiah's fulfillment of the types relating to His first coming. All four “shadow” Sabbaths in the fall feasts must occur on Holy 7th day Sabbaths in the year of their greatest significance.

All the fall feasts within the literal 22 days have extra special significance only in the Sabbath year (Deuteronomy 31:10-13). But only the Day of Atonement of the fall feasts had extra special significance in both, the Sabbath year and in the year of Jubilee, with the greatest significance being in the year of Jubilee, the year when the Day of Atonement occurs on a 7th day Sabbath.

The services of the Day of Atonement were structured to figuratively cleanse the sanctuary by the blotting out of sins that had been accumulating in the sanctuary during the entire year. Although sins, by true confession, were forgiven daily through the blood of the sacrifice, they were transferred by the blood to the sanctuary to be blotted out once each year on the Day of Atonement through the blood of the Lord's goat. This accomplished the cleansing of the sanctuary. After blotting out the sins, the high priest, a type of Jesus, placed them on the head of the scape goat. (Leviticus 16:7-22 KJV)

As in the typical ceremonies, a certain class of Hebrew slaves received their freedom on the Day of Atonement of the Sabbath year (Deuteronomy 15:1, 12), and all other slaves were set free on the Day of Atonement of the Jubilee year (Leviticus 25:10), so in the fulfillment of the Sabbath year on the Day of Atonement (a Monday that year) the sins of a certain class of individuals would be blotted out, while all others would wait until the next year on the Day of Atonement of the year of Jubilee for their complete freedom, when the Day of Atonement will occur on a seventh-day Sabbath.

Therefore, in the seventh Sabbath year, the 49th year, when the new moon of the seventh month falls on a 7th day Sabbath, all four of the “shadow” Sabbaths of the fall feasts fall on 7th day Sabbaths in the year of their greatest significance, which would be in the seventh Sabbath year and in the year of Jubilee. Therefore, this would point to the fulfillment of these fall feast days in the Sabbath year, actually, the 7th Sabbath year, which precedes the Jubilee, and in the Jubilee year, itself.

So, in the seventh Sabbath year, when the Feast of Trumpets, (the new moon of the seventh month) falls on a 7th day Sabbath, the first day and the eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles fall on 7th day Sabbaths, and the very next year, the year of Jubilee, the Day of Atonement, also, falls on a 7th day Sabbath. See “Hebcal” the perpetual Hebrew calendar.

The Apostle Peter referred to the fulfillment of the Day of Atonement in the fall feasts just before the second coming of Jesus, the Messiah, when He said,

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord and He shall send Jesus Christ....” Acts 3:19 KJV.

This text refers to the blotting out of sins which was typically performed on the Day of Atonement in the old sanctuary system, the old covenant. The blotting out of sins was considered to be the “cleansing of the sanctuary”. The prophet Daniel is given a time period of 2300 days, after which time the sanctuary would be cleansed (Daniel 8:14). In many cases the time prophecies of the Bible that have a prophetic time fulfillment, also have a literal time fulfillment. Prophetic time means that one day is taken to mean one year. (See Numbers 14:34, Ezekiel 4:6) In both literal and prophetic time this period of 2300 days would involve many years, it could not be referring to the yearly ritual service performed each Day of Atonement in the old Hebrew sanctuary, but to the specific time of the actual fulfillment of the prophetic types in the new covenant, (the heavenly sanctuary system).

This 2300-day prophecy is connected to both the types related to the first coming of Jesus, as well as, the types related to His second coming. The angel explains to Daniel that the “going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem,” (Daniel 9:25) is the beginning of this prophetic time period. From the beginning point in 457 B.C.E. when Artaxerses, the Babylonian king's decree “to restore and build Jerusalem” went forth, a time period of 69 weeks would elapse until the Messiah (Daniel 9:25) would begin His public ministry at His first appearing, and 3 and ½ years later in the middle of the 70th week of years (Daniel 9:26, 27) Messiah would fulfill the spring feasts in 31 C.E. in 52 literal days by His death and resurrection and by the Holy Ghost falling on the disciples on the Day of Pentecost. The 70 weeks of years (490 years) ended in 34 C.E. at the stoning of Stephen.

All of the time periods in this fulfillment of the 2300-day prophecy are calculated in prophetic time, each day meaning one year. Thus, the 2300 days (2300 years) ended on the Day of Atonement, Tuesday, October 22, 1844, (Hillel I), in the middle of the typical week of years. The first angel of Revelation 14:6-10 points to the end of the 2300 days as the hour of God's judgment.

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth,.. Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come:” Revelation 14:6, 7.

This was the beginning of the judgment of the dead in which their sins were blotted out of the heavenly sanctuary and is spoken of by John, the Revelator, in Revelation 6:11 “And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season,...” “...until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled.” Revelation 6:11. They were told to rest until after the persecution at the end of time; then the “dead in Christ shall rise first” at the time of the resurrection (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

This 2300-year period was not the final fulfillment of the 2300-day prophecy, although ending on the Day of Atonement, most of the specifications for the fulfillment of the fall feasts (Leviticus 23:24-39, Deuteronomy 31:10-13) were not met in that prophetic fulfillment in the year, 1844.

The following specifications as given by Moses for the fulfillment of the fall feasts that were not met in the 1844 prophetic fulfillment are:

--no fulfillment of all 3 of the fall feasts in the 22 literal days as shown in the type,

--the year 1844 was in the middle of the week of years, it was not a Sabbath year, or a 7th Sabbath year or a year of Jubilee, as required in the typical service. Also the historical Jubilee had already occurred in the year 1840.

--the Day of Atonement, October 22, 1844, did not occur on a Monday as it must in the 7th Sabbatical year, nor did it occur on a 7th-day Sabbath as prophesied for the Jubilee year. Nor did the Feast of Trumpets or the first day and the eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles fall on 7th day Sabbaths as they must when these feasts are fulfilled in the 7th Sabbath year. There was only a prophetic fulfillment of one of the fall feast days, and no fulfillment of the other fall feast days.

--the sins of the living individuals were not blotted out, which would result in the inability to recall previous sins, which must be the case in the fulfillment of the Day of Atonement in the anti-typical Jubilee year, when the saints will be set free from the slavery of this world and from all remembrance of their sins and delivered from all temptation.

The angel instructing Daniel stated that the “going forth” of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem would mark the beginning of the 2300-day prophetic period, the fact that there were three separate commandments or decrees providing for the restoration and the rebuilding of Jerusalem that “went forth”, each decree issued by a different ruling monarch of the Medo-Persian realm, is very significant. Each of the successive commandments providing for the restoration and the rebuilding of Jerusalem, was given in more detail, with the third and final decree in 457 B.C.E. being the most complete.

These three decrees are recorded in the Bible. (See Ezra 1:1-3, 5:13; Ezra 6:1-12; Ezra 7:11-27)

These three commandments to restore and build Jerusalem are prophetic of three fulfillments of the 2300-day prophecy, the first fulfillment being in prophetic time (a day equaling a year) and the two remaining fulfillments being in literal days, each beginning with the “going forth” of a commandment to restore and build Jerusalem. The third and final 2300-day period will be the most complete in fulfilling the types relating to Christ's second coming.

The second fulfillment of the 2300-day prophecy began unexpectedly with the “going forth” of a commandment to restore and build Jerusalem, on Friday, June 27, 1980, 2300 literal days before the Day of Atonement, October 13, 1986, in the first perfect alignment of the “shadow” Sabbaths falling on 7th day Sabbaths in the fall feasts in the 49th and 50th years, since the time of Jesus, the Messiah. This alignment was the first of a series, with three more such alignments that occur only now in our day at the end of the 6000 years of human history, after which there are none occurring, even if one searches a thousand years farther into the future. (See “Hebcal”, the perpetual Hebrew calendar)

This commandment that “went forth” on June 27, 1980, via Reuters international news agency to the entire world, titled, “Basic Law: Jerusalem Capitol of Israel,” put forward by a member of the Israeli Knesset, Guela Cohen, provided for the restoring of Jerusalem as the capitol of the nation and allocated special funds for its rebuilding.. Many may remember that since 1948 when the nation of Israel was formed, Tel Aviv had been the capitol.

An integral part of the 2300-day prophecy, is the first 70-week period. “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness,...” Daniel 9:24.

In the 2300 prophetic days (the 2300 years), the 70-week time period equaling 490 actual years reached to 34 C.E. when Stephen, the first Christian martyr, met his death by stoning and the Apostle Paul was ordained by God to carry the gospel message to the Gentiles, thus ending the Jewish dispensation and beginning the “times of the Gentiles.” Luke 21:24

In the second fulfillment of the 2300-day prophecy the first 70-week period was 490 literal days, ending on October 29, 1981. On that very day the Ark of the Covenant which had been secreted in a cave on Mt. Nebo since the days of Jeremiah, the prophet, was found by four amateur archeologists from Winfield, Kansas. Their leader, Tom Crotser, was shown by a dream that night, the exact location and how to reach it. When they found it, during that same night, they did not touch or disturb it, but reported there find. The Jordanian government sent their head archeologist to verify the find. After entering the cave and proceeding only a short distance down the corridor he was overcome and felt that he must leave at once. The entrance was resealed and guards were posted to prevent further investigation. The government of Jordan was urged to seek fame by removing the sacred chest from the cave and claiming ownership to it. But they declined.

This event marked the “end of the times of the Gentiles” (“Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” Luke 21:24). At this time the professed Christian Church corporations, classified as nonprofit 501©(3) corporations, were weighed in the balance of the sanctuary and were “found wanting”. Daniel 5:27 “...weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” All nonprofit 501©(3) corporations, being incorporated under Roman Catholic canon law (Ecclesiastical Law), are subject to and governed by the requirements of that law.

Just as the 2300 years ended on a Day of Atonement, Tuesday, October 22, 1844 (according to the Hillel I calendar), so the 2300 days from Friday, June 27, 1980, reached to the Day of Atonement, Monday, October 13, 1986, a 49th year just before the year of Jubilee. This 49th year, the year of their greatest significance, the Feast of Trumpets and the first and eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles, all fell on 7th day Sabbaths. In this perfect alignment the Day of Atonement occurred on a 7th day Sabbath, October 3, 1987, the Jubilee year, in which the Day of Atonement met the Sabbath specifications in the year of its greatest significance, (in Hillel I & in Hillel II).

Another dramatic event took place when Pope John Paul II ended his year of Jubilee on Easter Sunday, April 22, 1984, when he closed a special door of St. Peter's Basilica, declaring the close of his Jubilee year. Amazingly, there are exactly 42 months or more precisely 1260 literal days from April 22, 1984 until the Sabbath Day of Atonement, October 3, in God's typical Jubilee year of 1987.

“Pope John Paul II closed the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica. That gesture ended the extra-ordinary Holy Year of Redemption.--Kevin Castillo—AP Network News—Rome”. April 22, 1984

Quoting from the Apostolic Letter of Pope John Paul II, given on Good Friday, April 20, 1984, he stated:

“As the Jubilee Year of Redemption draws to a close, my thoughts go out to that special land which is located in that place where Europe, Asia and Africa meet...” given on Good Friday, April 20, 1984, also in L'Osservatore Roman, April 30, 1984, Weekly Edition.

The Pope's Jubilee year was heralded by other Churches, as well. The Seventh-day Adventist Church paper, The Advent Review, January 5, 1984, published an article entitled, “Year of the Lord's favor—Let the trumpet sound: bells ring out for this new year—a year of jubilee. 1984”

Strangely enough, October 3, 1987, God's historical Jubilee, received no attention whatsoever by the Christian community. Altho the Advent Review, January 5, 1984 did recognize God's Jubilee of 27 CE.

The future fulfillment of the 2300-day prophecy will be the third and most complete fulfillment involving the blotting out of the sins of the faithful who are alive on the earth, the beginning of the final cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, as the Apostle Peter stated, to precede the second coming of the Saviour. “God requireth that which is past.” Ecclesiastes 3:10

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ,...” Acts 3:19

“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.” Daniel 12:10

“...they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,...” Revelation 3:4,5.

This future and last fulfillment of the 2300-day prophecy will begin with the “going forth” of another “commandment to restore and build Jerusalem.” This will be exactly and precisely 2300 days before the Day of Atonement in the 7th Sabbath year the year just before the year of Jubilee, when all four of the “shadow” Sabbaths in the fall feasts will occur on 7th day Sabbaths in the year of their greatest significance. And the great Jubilee is ushered in on the Sabbath Day of Atonement of the Jubilee year. “That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been;” Ecclesiastes 3:10

The first 70 weeks of this future 2300 days will be marked with a major event, very likely involving the Ark of the Covenant, as was brought to our attention by its discovery during the previous literal fulfillment of the 2300 days. This Ark containing the ten commandment law of God is destined to be the great issue in the fulfillment of the prophecies connected with the judgment of the living at the end of time. This is evidenced by the words of the Bible prophet, Jeremiah, after he and his companions hid the ark in a cave on Mt. Nebo, on the peak of Pisgah, as is indicated by his statement and recorded in the book of 2 Maccabees, chapter 2. This book is included in the original 1611 Edition of the King James' Version of the Bible.

“4 It was also contained in the same writing (of Jeremiah) ,how the prophet (Jeremiah), being warned by God, commanded that the tabernacle and the ark should accompany him, till he come forth to the mountain where Moses went up and saw the inheritance of God.

5 And when Jeremiah came thither he found a hollow cave: and he carried in thither the tabernacle and the ark and the altar of incense and so stopped the door.

6 Then some of them that followed him came up to mark the place: but they could not find it.

7 And when Jeremiah perceived it, he blamed them, saying: The place shall be unknown till God gather together the congregation of the people and receive them to mercy.

8 And then the Lord will shew these things : and the majesty of the Lord shall appear and there shall be a cloud, as it was also shewed to Moses, and he shewed it when Solomon prayed that the place might be sanctified to the great God.” 2 Maccabees 2:4-8 (Isaiah 4:4-6)

The Day of Atonement that ends this last and final 2300-day period will be the day that Christ, our Heavenly High Priest begins the work of “blotting out” the sins of the living from the books of record in the heavenly sanctuary for those who have been faithful and the “blotting out” of the names from the book of life of those who have been found to be unfaithful.

Five days later, after this special Day of Atonement, on the first day of the fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles, (a 7th day Sabbath), God's people will be surviving in wilderness surroundings until the end of time, as evidenced by the seven days of this feast. Seven indicates completeness and extending to the end of time. These seven days are immediately followed by the eighth day of the feast (Leviticus 23:39 which is also a 7th day Sabbath in this seventh Sabbath year. Notice the diminishing number of sacrifices each day of this feast, indicating that God's mercy is ending.

The year following the seventh Sabbath year is the Jubilee year when the Day of Atonement falls on a 7th day Sabbath, and the Jubilee trumpet is blown on this Day of Atonement announcing the “day of vengeance of our God;” Isaiah 61:2. Christ stands up and declares, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:11, 12. This declaration completes His work in the heavenly sanctuary. Then Jesus receives His kingdom and prepares to return to this earth.

This day also ends the 1260-day period or 42 months which begins at the enforcement of the mark of the beast, the “abomination of desolation.” “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet”, is the warning sign given by the Messiah (Matthew 24:15). The apostle John writes of this same period (Revelation 13:5 “... power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. .”). This Sabbath Day of Atonement in this Jubilee year marks the end of the 6000 years of sin on this earth and the beginning of the 7th millennium, the Sabbath millennium of rest for the earth. After Christ's declaration in Revelation 22:11, He prepares to return to this earth which takes some number of days, during which time the 144.000 have control of the earth.

But let me tell you this day, heaven and earth passed away, and every jot and tittle of the law in Christ Crucified were annulled, and with and in him the law of God was nailed to the cross and taken out of the way: and in "Christ, when God rasied him from the dead and gave him to the Church as Head”, were fulfilled in him: “The all in all fulfilling fullness of God" and law of God!

Not for nothing do they all over the show say, I'm nuts. Nuts for God; nuts for his Truth in Jesus Christ I will, gladly be!

Would that it were so. However, last I checked, I'm still on Earth just like my ancestors all the way back to Adam. At no point has it passed away. Also, it wasn't the law that was nailed and taken away but the "handwriting of ordinances" or "certificate of indebtedness".

Windsor,

Actually, the Jubilee year was from the spring of 1840 until the spring of 1841. Therefore, 1844 was in the middle of the first week of years counting up to the next Jubilee.

This is in according to Jesus' fulfillment when He announced the Jubilee. Josephus', the first century Jewish historian, records are in harmony with this. His last recorded Jubilee was from spring 27 C.E. to spring 28 C.E.

The year 31 C.E. was in the middle of the week of years, therefore, it was not a Jubilee.

Ellen White's statements support Jesus' proclamation of the Jubilee when He read the Jubilee prophecy of Isaiah 61, stopping in the middle of the sentence, and then stating, "This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears."

I should also say that the prophetic specifications for the Day of Atonement are that in Fulfillment the Day of Atonement must be on a Holy Sabbath, and Jesus Fulfillment met this specification also when He proclaimed the Jubilee. In 1844 the Day of Atonement was on Tuesday Oct. 22.
