Interesting article. I was a big fan Hal Lindsey in the 1970's. His predictions didn't come true. I'm sure a lot of people were fans of EGW back in the ealy 1840's. Her predicions didn't come true. Harold Camping probably had more than a few fans about his May 2011 prediction - it didn't happen. Like the article says, "the Bible says we don't know the day or hour, it certainly says we know the times and seasons."

Just for grins, look at the pattern of solar and lunar eclipses in 2014 - 2015. There are 8 eclipses that fall on or within a day of Jewish annual Sabbaths. This same pattern appeared in AD 69 - 70 when Jerusalem was destroyed.

"The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red" (Rev. 6:12)

"There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven." (Luke 21:11)

Not predicting anything; but I do find it interesting ...

And it should also be noted that we as God's Saints - need to keep our nose out of what is not our business. Like trying to figure out when He will come.

Both Beshore and Hitchcock are wrong.

Beshore is wrong about Israel. The Bible teaches that physical Israel has been replaced by the church.

Hitchcock is wrong because he believes that there's going to be 7 years of Tribulation at the end, which is a popular view but has no valid biblical basis.

The truth is that God is not waiting for a clock to strike a certain hour in order for Christ to return. Rather, the Scriptures teach that Christ is waiting for His professed followers to proclaim the true gospel to all the world and to prepare themselves for His return.

Here's the problem: The Christian church/churches have not completed either of the primary tasks Christ assigned to His church. Instead many of them spend their time arguing over when Christ will return.

Solution: Get on with the tasks of spreading the Good News (assuming Christians know what it is and have accepted it themselves) and of putting on the robe of Christ's righteousness, which is having His character in our lives. (Please prayerfully study Rev. 19: 7-8; Matt. 24: 13-14; Heb 9: 27-28 and 2 Peter 3: 9-14.)

He is wrong about 1948 and the role of Israel. While no date is given, I believe he is right though when he says, "...we are in the time and season of the Lord’s return.”

We are on the toenails of the great image of Daniel 2, and ALL the prophecies of Mt 24 have been fulfilled save one - v14 - the gospel into all the world.

What exactly are you referring to on EW 58, 64? Are you talking about the fact that Ellen White said the coming of Christ was going to be "soon," etc.? That is exactly what Jesus Himself says in the Bible.

That is not the same as saying that Ellen White predicted that Christ would return in 1844.

She had no "fans" in the early 1840s. She had her first vision from God in Dec 1844, AFTER the Great Disappointment. She was still a young girl at that time.

I wish I could, Woody, but I don't have any EGW references handy. I haven't unpacked them since I moved. Admittedly, I may be mistaken about that being an EGW thing. It is DEFINITELY a hard-core SDA belief.

1946-1948; when Israel was restored as a nation

1966-1967; when Israel had major wars with its Arab enemies and greatly expanded its territory.

It will not be repeated again for 250 years.

Again, I'm not setting a date for anything. The bible warns us not to. It is an interesting pattern, though...

Sorry, Nan - read your question too fast. I thought you were asking about the pattern when there WERE major events.

I have never researched when the pattern existed and their weren't major events. It seems like a weird pattern anyways. A solar eclipse occurring just 2 weeks after a lunar eclipse 2 years in a row - on Jewish feast days, nonetheless?

Hey Gerry,

You made me break out my copy of the Great Controversy. I stand corrected. EGW did NOT make the prediction - William Miller did. EGW simply talks about it in Chapters 21 - 24.

Great Controversy is such a good book! Now I have to read the whole thing again!

Many Jewish scholars believe that 2001 and 2008 were Sabbatical years.

A couple of tidbits -

Rosh Hashanah in 2001 was 9/18. The World Trade Center and Pentagon were slammed on 9/11/2001 - a week earlier.

Rosh Hashanah in 2008 was 9/30. The worst stock market crash in the history of Wall Street happened on 10/6/2008 - a week later.

Both of these were world-changing events. Coincidence or signs from God?

If 2001 and 2008 were Sabbatical years, 2015 is the next one. Jubilee happens the year after a Sabbatical year - which would be 2016. Jewish scholars have no consensus of Jubilee years. but 10/3/2016 could start one - roughly a time, times, and part of a time from now.

According to Strong, "generation" can also mean "race or posterity." What if by "this generation" Jesus meant the Jews collectively will not pass away or disappear but remain as a people until the end?

Is there any case in the Bible where NT writers or Jesus have stated that "an entire ethnic culture for as long as time shall last" is the meaning of the term "this generation"?
