Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted December 7, 2012 Moderators Posted December 7, 2012 It's been reported that two Australian radio talk-show hosts made a prank telephone call to the hospital where Princess Kate Middleton Wales was a patient, pretending to be Queen Elizabeth, and were successful in reaching a nurse who cared for the Princess. The nurse gave out a status report on the patient, believing she was really speaking to the Queen of England. When the prank was found out, this poor nurse [reportedly an excellent nurse of high morals and long experience] was so distraught she committed suicide. The talk-show hosts have now been suspended from their jobs. But I don't think the mainstream radio listener has the slightest idea how devastating this news was to the poor nurse who had been duped. Because the medical profession has the highest ethical standards; no medical professional EVER talks about his/her patients, to ANYbody [even family members] without the patient's express consent and knowledge. Here this poor nurse realized afterward that she had broken that hard-and-fast ethical rule; this was devastating to her, and she must have felt so deeply embarrassed that she no longer wished to live. IMO, those pranksters have committed murder. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Moderators Nan Posted December 7, 2012 Moderators Posted December 7, 2012 I think the person who died was not the nurse who inadvertently let out the details but the one who took the call and passed it on. Regardless, a tragedy. Quote
Members phkrause Posted December 7, 2012 Members Posted December 7, 2012 Very sad indeed. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Moderators Nan Posted December 8, 2012 Moderators Posted December 8, 2012 The responsibility goes beyond the 'pranksters'. As far as I gather from the reports, the call was not broadcast live but was vetted by the stations legal people. They must be feeling really proud of themselves. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted December 8, 2012 Administrators Posted December 8, 2012 I am just imagining the sense of humiliation... First of all for being duped, then having your error broadcast and a laughing matter all over the world. The shame belongs to those who thought the joke was a good idea Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
