LOL This reminds me of an Aussie friend of my ex's. One time he found himself by some goats in a pen and he would ask them, "How's my kids today?" And they would call out, "Naaaaaaaaaahhhh!!"

What's the difference between the Hebrew words for 'sheep' and 'goats'?

I love goats! I love sheep!

When I climbed Mt. Ararat in 1972 and 1974 I had the privilege of meeting a number of flocks of mixed sheep and goats, and their shephards would usually offer me as much freshly milked sheep and goats milk as I'd like!!!

Yummy warm and it couldn't be any more fresh than that!

From today's Bible Study and its reference to Jesus' teaching regarding the sheep on his right and the goats on his left (Matt 25:32-33) I learned another valuable lesson that I've been wondering about most of my life...

I asked myself, What's behind those words?

So I used Strong's and found these entries:

From G4253 and the base of G939; to walk forward, that is, advance (literally or in years)

A primary preposition; “fore”, that is, in front of, prior (figuratively superior) to.

ἐρίφιον

From G2056; a kidling, that is, (generally) goat (symbolically wicked person)

The corresponding Hebrew words from the original Hebrew text as transcribed into Shem Tov's Hebrew Matthew are these:

From an unused root meaning to dominate; a ram (just old enough to butt)

In my English-Swedish dictionary I find one of the meanings of 'stout' being "stiff necked."

However, generally in the OT the Hebrew words behind "stiff necked" are "קשׁה־ערף."

I find the above meanings behind the translated words 'sheep' and 'goat' quite enlightening in the context of Jesus' teaching...

Am I like children? Always willing and eager to learn more about God's way of life, about the truths of God, about the Way towards the Kingdom of my Creator?
