bonnie Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Only a bomb is mentioned in one attempt as a weapon, but overall there has to be guns involved as well.Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws and as anywhere bank robbery is against the law. Doesn't seem to be working out to well. Again can someone explain the how the fault lies with easy accessibility, when area's that have a great number of guns are not showing the same results Chicago Area Bank Robberies Nearly Double Over 2011 December 31, 2012 10:34 AM A man dressed in a yellow poncho, black cap, surgical mask, and black surgical gloves tried to rob a Citibank on Michigan Avenue, by claiming he had a bomb, but he fled the bank without taking the money he demanded, and left the fake bomb behind. CHICAGO (CBS) – Bank robbers had a busy year in 2012. The FBI said robbers have hit 218 banks in the Chicago area as of Dec. 31, compared to 115 in 2011. “Close to double what we had in the prior year,” said FBI Special Agent Joan Hyde. WBBM Newsradio’s Brandis Friedman reports, while people often look for a way to explain a spike in bank robberies, Hyde said it’s not often tied to a greater issue, like the economy. “That just doesn’t play out. Typically the bank robbers are motivated by their need for money for a drug habit, or gambling debts,” she said. Hyde explained there were a number of serial bank robbers this year, which helps bump up the number of bank robberies. Once those suspects are captured, they lead to solving a number of other cases. This year’s bank robbery total is the most since 2006, when there were 284 such heists in the Chicago area. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Makes them wonder about what? That having armed guards didn't help? I don't know,I have never robbed a bank but would question if they announced themselves and their intent with guns out and blazing.I would think they would be as inconspicuous as possible while demanding money from someone. If at all possible not having a armed guard aware initially of what was taking place. It is interesting how there doesn't seem to be any mention of resistance so we have no idea how it was done.Fairly certain they did not go in and demand money without a believable threat But you are right, armed guards do not always prevent crime. Reagan and the Kennedy brothers are pretty good examples of that.So why have they continued armed security for the president and their families? Why does Sidwell school have eleven armed guards plus the secret service for the presidents children? The very ones saying it doesn't work. You dismiss something because it lacks a 100% success rate. Odd,how that is not considered when demanding criminals obey a gun ban. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Members phkrause Posted December 31, 2012 Members Posted December 31, 2012 PKRAUSE that laws did not help dgrimm60 That's also right, and they haven't help in at least 50 years, with armed guards at every bank. Even 2 and sometimes more, and still bank robbers rob banks knowing that there are armed guards and knowing that the police will be on the scene. bonnie Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 That's also right, and they haven't help in at least 50 years, with armed guards at every bank. Even 2 and sometimes more, and still bank robbers rob banks knowing that there are armed guards and knowing that the police will be on the scene. In a lot of cases the laws only work after someone has broken them. Something must have worked to some degree as 50 years ago it was far easier to rob a bank and get away with it than today with the tools available to authorities Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
