M. T. Cross Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 There is so much talk and worry amongst Adventists about a possible Sunday Law. How would you feel in instead governments around the world enforced a Sabbath Law? Quote
Members phkrause Posted January 6, 2013 Members Posted January 6, 2013 Wouldn't like it either, and this will never happen Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
M. T. Cross Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Oh I don't think it will happen either - its hypothetical. I don't think a Sunday law will happen either. Quote
Members phkrause Posted January 6, 2013 Members Posted January 6, 2013 We will see a Sunday Law. There are plenty of sunday blue laws dormat(sp) right now, that are still on the books. Just waiting for the right time to resurface. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Kountzer Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 The sabbath is a biblical commandment. The attempt to establish counterfeit sabbath, Sunday, is based on the bible as well. Persecution as a result of all this is based on biblical prophecy and by history. All this would be true if the adventist church never came into existence. Ellen White, the GC, the founding members of this church, they didn't make up these beliefs. It is all found in the bible. M. T. Cross Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 But if governments where to pass a law decreeing that all must worship the God of the Bible, from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday - how would you feel about it? Quote

Administrators debbym Posted January 11, 2013 Administrators Posted January 11, 2013 i would feel deeply uncomfortable that the government was involved in passing religious laws.it would be the end of the separation of church and state. i have no interest in requiring anyone to do right, it must be from the heart, an act of freewill. deb Quote deb Love awakens love. BobRyan Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 There is so much talk and worry amongst Adventists about a possible Sunday Law. How would you feel in instead governments around the world enforced a Sabbath Law? It would be wrong. We cannot employ civil laws to regulate acts of worship under any context but a Theocracy. (At least within limits. No child sacrifice for example as an act of worship -- that law is still valid) in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." JoeMo Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Quote: how would you feel about it? It would totally suck. But I'm with you - it ain't gonna happen. A "Friday" law (Muslim Holy Day enforcement) is more likely in many parts of th world. Quote

A Sunday law is coming to the United States, and it won't simply be a day to close your business. "When our nation shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism.—Testimonies for the Church 5:712. {ChS 160.3} By the decree of enforcing the institution of the Papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with Spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and Republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan, and that the end is near." My answer was in response to the "what if" scenario where the the point of the question is - "would you view it as a good thing or a bad thing". My answer was our view of it. I was not predicting that mankind would not try to bring back the sunday legislation of the dark ages. Having said that - I do like that quote you put in your post - so... "I post it again". How would you feel in instead governments around the world enforced a Sabbath Law? I'll take the bait. I would love it, I wouldn't have the pressure to work on the Sabbath anymore. The answer to the question not asked is this; No, I would not fight or vote to make that the rule of law. Because I do not believe you can legislate a morality. Quote

Aren't those requiring people to do what is right, and legislation of morality? That is very interesting isn't it? Those are laws that deal with how we treat our fellow citizens. The last 6 of the 10 Commandments, if you will. Hard to argue against those kind of laws. But a law on how we serve or honor God is another subject or category. Quote
Administrators debbym Posted January 12, 2013 Administrators Posted January 12, 2013 Quote: Poster: fccool Quote: So, what do you think about laws against murder, against theft... etc? Aren't those requiring people to do what is right, and legislation of morality? laws against murder and theft are moral law but are not considered religious moral laws. so your response is out of context to what i was saying, and selective from my text. but yes there is a great difference between passing laws that are punishing if you do not observe religious laws, and passing laws that bring punishment those who do social harm, these laws are civil laws,. yes they are found in the ten commandments, but they remain civil laws in the land. these civil laws do not require people to be good, they merely state there will be civil punishment for doing social harm. so if a law was passed requiring observing the Sabbath, it cannot require people to be obedient to Gods Sabbath law, it would just establish punishments for those who follow certain proscribed behavior around the Sabbath day. it is extremely wrong to try to legislate religious worship. then people get the idea that can be made right with God by following a religious law of the land. And this is a serious deception. it is a religious error that human enactments can make people right with God. I believe the majority of the Christian world may believe this, and it leaves them short of being made right with God. obeying stop signs does not make me right with God, anymore then obeying a Sunday or Saturday Sabbath law of the land would make me right with God. Sunday laws can be obeyed, as a Saturday Sabbath keeping Christian, as in don't open your business on Sunday and don't plow your field on Sunday, but when a Sunday law requires me to go to a house of worship on Sunday, or requires me to labor on Sabbath then i draw the line. then it enters the sacred domain of my conscience and my relationship with God in Love and Obedience. Social control, the power to bring punishment on undesirable social behavior should never used to coerce spiritual behaviors or legislate ones relationship to God. The history of governments who have done this is the history of religious persecution. Separation of church and state is designed to prevent this. deb Quote deb Love awakens love. cricket Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I don't think I'd care one way or another if there were mandatory Sabbath laws given by the government. I'd obey them--whatever they were (so long as they don't go against my internal moral beliefs). But here's another question: If there were mandatory Sabbath laws ordained by the government, and people started keeping the Sabbath holy--would God honor the Sabbath keeping of these new people? Would He seek to spend that time with them and make the day a blessing for them too? Quote
