aldona Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Not sure if this would go better in the World Affairs or the Aussie forum, but much fewer people seem to read those. I thought it was hotter than usual this summer, but I didn't realize it was THIS bad... Temperatures off the chart as Australia turns deep purple Temperature records are being broken everywhere, and the Bureau of Meteorology's interactive weather forecasting chart has had to add new colors to extend its temperature range. The previous record temperature sas 50.7 C (123.3 F) at Oodnadatta, South Australia. The scale now reads up to 54 C (129.2 F). Usually a heat wave lasts 1-2 days followed by a cool change. This time, many states have had 6-7 days in a row of temperatures above 40 C (104 F). There are bush fires burning all over Tasmania (which is unheard of, it is usually our coolest state), large fires out of control in the south-west of Victoria (my home state) and just now I heard on the news that there are over 130 fires all over New South Wales. And it's only relatively early in the bush fire season - usually our hottest weather and worst fire danger occurs in February. I seem to recall something in Revelation about the sun "scorching men with great heat"... Stan Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 As I set in sub-zero temperature,.... that looks nasty hot. Seems to me it gets hotter for another month and then begins to cool off. Canada should winter it's fire fight planes in Australia, if they are not doing so already. doug yowell Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Hey, wait a second, you said it was off the chart. What's this colored thing with all those numbers around it? Quote
cricket Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Aldona, that sounds dreadful. I do hope it starts cooling down some! Where is the heat wave worst? Is there a city under that deep purple spot on the charts?? Quote
Administrators Gail Posted January 10, 2013 Administrators Posted January 10, 2013 Wow- amazing! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Planey Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Is there a city under that deep purple spot on the charts?? No - it is mostly desert. The Simpson Desert is around there, and the Lake Eyre area. Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
