The French were giving him a hard time saying he was evading taxes. I'm not quite sure what I think about that... it seems M. Depardieu has been in the news recently but not for good reasons. The French are probably correct that he is just evading the confiscatory taxes of his socialist country. I seem to recall that Sean Connery applied for Swiss citizenship many years ago to avoid the high British taxes. Quote
