...and if you want to get really theological, Jesus, who was the Word of God in bodily flesh, said "those who live by the gun, shall die by the gun." to use a contemporary saying. And if you really want to get technical, the 10 commandments also says that you will not kill.

No exceptions...crazy man, neighbor who hates your crapping dog, thief, just a guy with a chip on his shoulder, or bad guy....you will not kill....

How do gun owners, who have guns "for protection" justify thier right to kill?

Bravus-

I hope this post augments your frustration and is in the same spirit of your post...Otherwise, I may have highjacked your thread...and I didn't mean to do that...So-

What percentage of Americans owned guns in the 19th and first half of the 20th century?

About ... 100%?? (Even James White had a gun)

As compared to today.

So where were all the mass shootings in schools and churches and movie houses in the 19th and first half of 20th century by random "crazies"??

Wasn't the presence of guns supposed to create all of that?

This web site explains a tiny part of the social engineering that is going on to change behavior in the late 20th and 21st centuries.

Here is where they explain how the prior social engineering efforts have been producing real results.

As it turns out - around the time of WWII they discovered they had "A problem" getting people to kill other people in battle.

Quote:

During World War II, U.S. Army Brigadier General S.L.A. Marshall asked average soldiers how they conducted themselves in battle. Before that, it had always been assumed that the average soldier would kill in combat simply because his country and his leaders had told him to do so, and because it might be essential to defend his own life and the lives of his friends.

Marshall’s singularly unexpected discovery was that, of every hundred men along the line of fire during the combat period, an average of only 15 to 20 “would take any part with their weapons.” This was consistently true, “whether the action was spread over a day, or two days, or three.”

So the problem was - how do you get the average joe citizen ginned up to go kill someone on command once you have him in the army?

This is a complete distortion of what anyone around here has said

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

If you really want to be accurate the original command was "Thou Shalt Not Murder" I believe

No,it says thou shalt not murder. Self defense is not murder, most of the other are exaggerations you use for justification

They don't. They reserve the right to self defense in extreme circumstances

How do gun owners, who have guns "for protection" justify thier right to kill?

This is for Florida. So far other states I have had the time to check so pretty much the same.

Doesn't sound like to many with a chip on their shoulder or shooting the neighbors dog

* Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1987. At the time the law was passed, critics predicted increases in violence. The founder of the National Organization of Women, Betty Friedan stated:

"lethal violence, even in self defense, only engenders more violence." (13)

[color:#000099]* When the law went into effect, the Dade County Police began a program to record all arrest and non arrest incidents involving concealed carry licensees. Between September of 1987 and August of 1992, Dade County recorded 4 crimes committed by licensees with firearms. None of these crimes resulted in an injury. The record keeping program was abandoned in 1992 because there were not enough incidents to justify tracking them. (13)(15)

* 221,443 concealed carry licenses were issued in Florida between October of 1987 and April of 1994. During that time, Florida recorded 18 crimes committed by licensees with firearms. (15)

* As of 1998, nationwide, there has been 1 recorded incident in which a permit holder shot someone following a traffic accident. The permit holder was not charged, as the grand jury ruled the shooting was in self defense. (7)

* As of 1998, no permit holder has ever shot a police officer. There have been several cases in which a permit holder has protected an officer's life. (7)
