EGW is not God!!!

Neither was Moses. So what's your point? That you make distinctions between prophets?

So, did Jesus just eat the loves and not the fish? Did he only cook for the fishermen by the sea that early morning and not eat with them? Maybe he brought a pot of manna, shaped like fish, back from Heaven for Himself and real fish sticks for everyone else :-))

Moses recorded campfire stories (some for children others more adult in nature) to tell us about God. God wants us to prosper and be in good health, and does have an interest in what we eat. So does Satan and with the knowledge he has he is out to hurt and destroy. I think it possible and likely that he loves the nit picking that is so prevalent in our church over eating this verses that. It distracts us from our real mission of taking the Gospel to the world

Hard to see where your post is fitting with the clean/unclean animal for food topic. Sounds like you're speaking against "required" vegetarianism...

What was written in the first 5 books of the Bible isn't just a collection of recorded campfire stories...

OK, the SDA denomination seems to make a big deal about the eating of clean versus unclean meat. The question I have is how you explain Genesis 9:3 when it comes to the teaching of unclean animals.

Genesis 9:3 says,"Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant." Many people, who feel restricted by dietary laws given to Israel through Moses, focus on the "Every" and "all" but ignore the "as I gave the green plant". Did God give all of the green plants to humans for food? What about the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil? What about the Tree of Life after Adam was sent from the Garden of Eden? Did God give all of the poisonous plants to us for food? Were the "thorns and thistles" that grew because of the curse of sin given for food too?

Apparently there were some limits regarding the green plants given for food. Do you think God just let Adam and Eve find out by trial and error which plants would kill them or make them ill or make them sterile? Or did God take them around and show them which things were good for food?

The Scriptures don't record that God showed Adam which plants to avoid, but it seems likely that God did some teaching in that area. In the same way, Scripture doesn't record that God told Noah or his ancestors which animals were clean or unclean, yet Noah is told to make that distinction when putting animals into the ark. So somewhere along the way God must have taught Noah or his ancestors how to tell clean from unclean and what that distinction meant.

Excellent point Ron, I kind of alluded that in an earlier post, that there must have been a distinction between clean and unclean. Just as the 10 Commandments were.

It was not that they was no distinction, because obviously there was according to the flood story. But the basis and purpose of the distinction are not articulated, only implied. What is clearly implied is that Noah understood the basis and purpose of the distinction and acted on it by sacrificing only clean animals. And it is equally clear that God said to Noah that every moving creature was identified as food with no distinction between clean and unclean mentioned. Recognize that the events of the flood happened about 500 years before Moses. There is nothing in the Biblical record until the time of Moses about a dietary basis for the distinction. And Moses was the one who wrote down all of it from Genesis onward, so one should reasonably assume that had it been the same in the time of Noah, Moses would have written that God said to Noah, "Now you can eat any clean creature that moves on the earth" rather than every creature that moves. The laws of Moses do not say they were simply an articulation of what had always been, but rather a new order of things designed as a complete system of spiritual discipline for the Israelites to follow in their worship of the Creator God to become His special people on earth.

All of this is consistent with the theory of the basis of the distinction as being their pureblood nature as God had created them originally. And it is consistent with worshiping the Creator to use on that which He created uncorrupted by sin induced adaptations and changes. If it was primarily about health and diet, why are very fatty meats clean, such as (or especially), lamb or beef, but lean meats such as rabbit or kangaroo not healthy? It is also not the diet of the animals that determines whether they are clean or not. As we can see those just sited examples are all herbivores. Most, but not all, carnivorous predators are unclean. Most clean fish eat other fish and other creatures of the sea. (Are fish with scales really healthier to eat?) While some omnivorous birds are unclean, some clean birds, namely chickens, eat just about anything. If the basis is viewed as being dietary/health, there is simply not a lot of consistency.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
