Can someone point me to some good reference material? Doesn't have to be exclusively Adventist; I'm OK with exploring alternatives. Thanks! Quote

This page also summarizes some of the major theological and cultural impacts of the Babylonian exile on Judaism, but I don't know how much you can dig into that without getting crucified by your study group (it's also a little off-topic, but interesting nonetheless). I don't have time to look for a more reliable source, but I don't see anything there that I haven't heard from more reputable sources in the past. Quote I believe in life before death

It gives two possible paths for Israel to follow, if they were faithful how God would bless them, nations would join them or reject them, things get better until a great eschalogical war between Israel and those who joined them and the nations that rejected their message. But if they were unfaithful God would give curse after curse finally leading to exile. However if they were faithful in exile, the exile would have been the last days and were to end in a second great exodus lead by the messiah. Along with this read Deuteronomy 27 and 28 Read in the SDA Bible Commentary the chapter "The Role of Israel in Old Testament Prophecy" (It's in the volume that has the prophets). These 3 Bible chapters and this article in the Commentary are what you need, they are key chapters and a very key article that is sadly not well known to us and if we would but study these chapters and that article much would be cleared up. If you would like additional study I'd recommend looking at the comments on these 3 chapters from the SDABC, the Anchor Bible, the Interpeters Bible Commentary and the New International Commentary of the Old Testament. And of course I agree with Joeb about Prophets and Kings Quote

One other resource I just thought of is the ability to search the database of EGW's writings on the EGW Estate website. That opens up a large collection of her writings not normally available to most of us. I know the ability to search there has opened up a lot of info for me to which I otherwise I would not have had access. It appears that David was king 490 years prior to the end of the exile, that the Sabbatical year became neglected during the time that David's family rulled and that there were 70 of them that were ignored and that the exile was 70 years based on the 70 lost sabatical years. The Messiah should have lead them back from the exile in a second great exodus, but the conditions were not fulfilled so they had a second 490 year period of land theology to do what the house of David could have done but failed to do. We can learn here about specific applications and re applications through analogy of the prophecies Quote

I don't have to have the lesson prepared until April 6; so right now I'm just collecting study sources. I googled prophecies about babylonian captivity and got some real good stuff from that query, as well. Quote
