Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 24, 2013 Administrators Posted January 24, 2013 Funny, until you realize it's not so much of an exaggeration... WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – A rising chorus of congressional Republicans are calling on President Obama to acknowledge that the pop singer Beyoncé lip-synched during his inaugural festivities on Monday and resign from office, effective immediately. “By lip-synching the national anthem, Beyoncé has cast a dark cloud over the President’s second term,” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky). “The only way President Obama can remove that cloud is by resigning from office at once.” While many in the media have blamed Beyoncé for the lip-synching controversy, Mr. Paul said, “We must remember that this happened on President Obama’s watch.” Mr. Paul said that the White House’s refusal to comment on the Beyoncé crisis “only serves the argument that this President has something to hide.” “If Beyoncé lip-synched the national anthem, how do we know President Obama didn’t lip-sync his oath of office?” he said. “If that’s the case, he’s not legally President. But just to be on the safe side, he should resign anyway.” Mr. Paul also blasted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her testimony on Benghazi before the Senate today: “Her tactic of answering each and every question we asked her didn’t fool anyone.” Read more: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." OzarkWoman Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Honestly, don't we have more major problems to worry about than this? I could care less about this type of idiocy. Quote
Ted Oplinger Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 No different the 9/11 truther poop out there...the various Democrat arguments of "the gravity of the accusation calls for removal" poop the Democrats pulled on various Republicans from 1994 on. That's about in line with all the various poop things the Democrat party has said about Republican leaders since Ronald Reagan brought that party out of the stupor and paralysis of Watergate...and about as absurd. I remember the over-the-top hyperbole used by Democrats and the media then. Democrats don't like over-the-top hyperbole used against them? Just maybe they need to refrain from their own florid use of it. Remember all those comparisons used courteously by the Democrats through both of "W's" terms? Saw that, too.... How about the lack of the race card played over and over the last 5 years? Check, noted how little I saw it...Still looking for my "dog whistle-code word" book to arrive in my inbox... Stupidity when done by Republicans, but merely wise dissent and First Amendment rights when done by a Democrat? Meh...sounds like pretty foolish stuff to me. Even more foolish when it goes unridiculed by both sides for the stupidity it is. To stoop to such a low level to fight this kind of rhetoric used for years just makes me weep inside. Yet, this seems to be the staple of American politics for over 200 years...see how low the denominator can go. When "progressives" stop doing these kinds of tricks, I'll start taking them more seriously in a discussion. When those who oppose the "progressives" cease from this poop, I'll support them. Beyonce has yet to apologize to Chuck Schumer for lip-syncing at inauguration By TARA PALMERI and TODD VENEZIA Last Updated: 8:50 AM, January 28, 2013 Posted: 1:48 AM, January 28, 2013 Her phony warbling made Chuck Schumer look like a fool — but she hasn’t apologized to him for it. The New York senator angrily admitted yesterday that the pop queen has not called him to say sorry after she turned last week’s inaugural bash into an unexpected Milli Vanilli concert by lip-syncing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” “I have not heard from her before, during or after,” a testy Schumer told The Post after he was asked if Beyoncé had called him to give a musical mea culpa. “She did not talk to me at all. I didn’t say any words to her, period.” SO PHONY: Pop diva Beyoncé fooled the nation — and inauguration organizer Sen. Chuck Schumer — with a prerecorded performance last week. It was clear the senator did not want to talk about the debacle at President Obama’s inauguration, which he organized and hosted. When cornered at his regular Sunday press conference, Schumer snipped that he had no idea at the time that Beyoncé was lip-syncing. “I couldn’t tell,” he said, “I only saw her from the back.” Beyoncé seemed to bring down the house with a stunning rendition of the National Anthem — before the truth about her fake oratorio was uncovered. She has not apologized to anyone for the mime routine. Schumer has been credited with drawing the pop diva and her hubby Jay-Z to the inauguration, where many said they stole the show from the president and first lady walking hand-in-hand on the steps of Capitol Hill. Schumer was seen beaming with pride just steps behind Beyoncé while she appeared to be belting out the National Anthem. Obama administration insiders and inauguration planners were in the dark about Beyoncé’s decision to use a prerecorded tape of her singing with the Marine Band during the swearing in. The were later left fuming over the embarrassment, according to reports. Some on Capitol Hill have even placed the blame on Schumer for the Star-Spangled sham. “Sen. Schumer promised Beyoncé, but he delivered Milli Vanilli instead,” quipped one Republican congressional aide last week. Beyoncé is slated to perform next weekend at the Super Bowl halftime show, where she’ll sing “Crazy in Love” before joining Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland for a Destiny’s Child reunion. It’s unclear if she will dare use a tape again. She was seen rehearing in New Orleans last week for her next big performance Feb. 3 at theSuperdome. Sources close to Beyoncé said she “didn’t think there was anything wrong” with lip-syncing the National Anthem, according to reports. Beyoncé seemed to be hinting at her own feelings on the lip-syncing scandal on Sunday when she posted to Instagram a picture of herself, with her hands raised, wearing a sweatshirt that said, “Can I live?” Her rep didn’t get back to us. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 28, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 28, 2013 Funny, until you realize it's not so much of an exaggeration... OK I stand corrected. It really is no exaggeration. The bit I posted was really intended as humor and was by a known comedian. My own brief introductory comment was in that spirit. But apparently there really are people who seem unwilling to let it go and would rather have it turned into a scandal. It's not the first performer to lip-sync to their own voice, nor the last. Perhaps if there weren't so many issues that are phoney relating to this presidency this would have gone unnoticed. It may have been considered respectful and polite to at least inform those responsible for inviting her to sing. With everything else that is pretend with this admin maybe it is the little things. Some people...as in Chuckie Schumer? Seems he has the anger issue, not his politcal opponents. I take it all tongue-in-cheek, Tom - a pop star promises a live performance, then switches for a lip-sync to a president who, promising to be president of us all, switches to be a president for just those who accept his pandering. Irony is just rich there... Looks like the Dems who can't get over getting one-upped at their own game...Too funny. Can you pass the popcorn, please? Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 28, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 28, 2013 No, I was thinking more of the NY Post (not a reliable news source...) and the writers of that piece as well as the numerous conservative news outlets, such as Fox, and the right-wing blogosphere that continue to harp on this whole issue. And for the record, Schumer’s press office specifically challenges the veracity of the Post story, “This is false. He never said he wanted an apology. [The New York Post] is already changing its headline.” The Post article likewise mischaracterized Schumer as being angry. Ted Oplinger Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Well, considered that what is accepted as "reliable" is a sliding scale depending on how left they lean...I will take that for what it is worth. The Post may be wrong on this particular piece...but they are more correct more often than the NY Times, which has essentially become a tabloid.
