Amelia Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Christians turn down Big Brother Young Christians have turned down a chance to stay in Germany's Big Brother village. Big Brother producers had invited some of the 600,000 people set to attend a Catholic youth conference to stay in the village. They thought a bit of healthy theological debate might be just the thing to bring back the viewers after they tried and failed to persuade Paris Hilton to make an appearance. But organisers of the World Youth Day in Cologne decided an appearance on the programme would not be appropriate. "An inhuman concept like Big Brother is hardly suitable for the transmission of the World Youth Day's ideas and goals," said WJT spokesman Matthias Kopp. "Young visitors are coming to take part in the World Youth Day and not in a media production." WJT visitors had been offered their own house with six beds, a large kitchen and a bathroom in the village which is also equipped with a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, a giant whirlpool and waterbeds. Anyone wishing to stay there however would have had to agree to being filmed for the show. A spokesman for producers Endemol said: "Mr Kopps' statements are not very Christian. The village square would have been an ideal venue for guests and Village residents to exchange views."
