Woody Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I've noticed a few come to this forum - thinking that to be SDA means to be what their thinking and interpretation of scriptures is. It can cause difficulty when that person discovers that yes even SDAs have differences of opinion. What IS an SDA ? That is defined in the Statement of our 28 Fundamental Beliefs. IF it's not stated there - then it is just private interpretation. ANd much more tolerance for variance is needed. Just my two cents worth. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Good question...is an SDA simply a member of a corporate denomination trying to maintain a unity through promotion of the 28 (and counting) beliefs? Or is an SDA really something deeper? Sort of like Paul's statement of what a Jew is in his discourse to the Romans, chap. 2, verses 25-29.....no? Blessings! Moderators Kevin H Posted January 31, 2013 Moderators Posted January 31, 2013 Remember our pioneers came from two sources: First were Millerites of all different faiths who were kicked out of their churches for believing different things and joined together in a church where they could agree on some pillers, not be fanatics, but otherwise free to believe what they wished to believe and not get kicked out for being different. The second source was one of the two churches in Washington NH. When they incorporated the town the townspeople could not agree on what church to build. One group wanted an orthodox group with approved preachers preaching the party line. the other group wanted a church where they would be inclusive of different beliefs and would invite anyone who felt that they had a message from the Lord to preach and to allow the members to decide for themselves. While there are a few Seventh-day Baptist communities that may have had Seventh-day Adventist churches prior to the Washington NH church, the first recognized Seventh-day Adventist church was this second of the two churches from Washington NH. In a lot of ways, Seventh-day Adventism is simply Jeffersonian Democracracy applied to religion. Quote

And this is not to say that we have not gone off course right along with our government going off course Quote
