Guest Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 As I have stated many times, the Greater Light is Christ the lesser light are all the Bible writers and and the writings of Ellen White. Matthew 3:11 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: But he that cometh after me IS MIGHTIER [GREATER] than I..." All Bible students know that John was the Forerunner of Jesus Christ. Signs of the Times, 08-25-87 "With the first advent of Christ there was ushered in AN ERA OF GREATER LIGHT and glory; but it would indeed be sinful ingratitude to dispise and ridicule THE LESSER LIGHT because a fuller and more GLORIOUS LIGHT had dawned." [A comparison between the two dispensations of the Old Testament and the New] 2 Spirit of Prophecy, p. 83 "The prophet John was the connecting link between the two dispensations. HE WAS THE LESSER LIGHT which was to be followed BY THE GREATER." [Christ Jesus the LIGHT OF THE WORLD]. On the same page are these words. "He [John] was not privileged to be with Christ and witness the divine power attending THE GREATER LIGHT. It was not to see the blind restored to sight, the sick healed and the dead raised to life., He did not behold the LIGHT which shone through EVERY WORD OF CHRIST, reflecting glory upon the promised in prophecy. The world was alluminated [LIGHTED] with the BRIGHTNESS of the Father's glory in the person of His Son;...." Ellen White speaking of herself in the third person, points to her BOOKS as LESSER LIGHT to lead them TO THE GREATER LIGHT CHRIST JESUS. Advent Review and Sabbath Herald 01-20-03 "From their pages this light is to shine into the hearts of men and women, LEADING THEM TO THE S A V I O U R." [THE GREATER LIGHT] NOTE - ELLEN WHITE CONTINUES THE OPEN LETTER: "The Lord has sent his people much instruction, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, and there a little. Little heed is given to the Bible, and the Lord has given a lesser light TO LEAD MEN AND WOMEN TO THE GREATER LIGHT. O, how much good would be accomplished if the books containing this light were read with a determination to carry out the principles they contain! There would be a thousandfold greater vigilance, a thousandfold more self-denial and resolute effort. And many more would now be rejoicing in the light of present truth." NOTE: "LEADING THEM TO THE SAVIOUR" AND "TO LEAD MEN AND WOMEN TO THE GREATER LIGHT. "He [John] was the LESSER LIGHT WHICH WAS TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE GREATER." [GREATER LIGHT CHRIST] 3SOP 83 Quote
Guest Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 The ability to see the above truth is best viewed with church supplied rose-colored gasses removed. Don't you know that "Wherever you find a Christian, you find a shining light. In word and act he reveals the Light of life. His perceptions are not crusted with selfishness. Not having followed inclination, he does not stubbornly cling to his convictions. He perceives the truth, and is blessed by its sacred influence; he sees the verity of God's Word, and its infinite superiority to everything selfish; he sees the foolishness of following plans of human devising in the place of God's plans. His ability to see these things is from God, and qualifies him to be God's representative, to bear with authority the word of truth to others. He has been converted; he loves God supremely, and his neighbor as himself. {RH, July 7, 1903 par. 2} Quote

And all those deceived by the pliable Aarons said, "I will go shopping tomorrow at Staples & buy a shredding machine & weed out my spurious teachings". But another group that were honestly mistaken, when they hear the truth will either stop being deceived, OR they will cease to be honest. Quote
jasd Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 >>As I have stated many times, the Greater Light is Christ the lesser light are all the Bible writers and and the writings of Ellen White.<< Agreed. However, I add, without limitation of scope, --those who are posting to this board are lesser lights. I attest to that. It remains that whoever receives of the lesser ‘lights’ have also, a discerning spirit -- a testing spirit. There also remains the caveat of ‘authority’ which purports its possession; ...and to what extent acceptance of that purport must or might be. >>…when they hear the truth will either stop being deceived, OR they will cease to be honest.<< [ed.] There is a pale, --the homeward bound is ever aware how far distant his or her stride is from its pickets. Lose sight of it or of its measure, and direction is lost. “Truths” -- are like the pickets of a pale, sometimes perceived differently from others, as well as, than others. Quote
Ron Lambert Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I must object to the elevation of Ellen G. White to an equality with the Bible writers. This is sin. It is in fact a violation of the first commandment, especially when Ellen G. White is used as the last word on the interpretation of the Bible. It is the Bible that must always in every instance verify Ellen G. White. Ellen G. White must never be regarded as verifying Scripture. It is no wonder why God has not given us another prophet like Ellen G. White in the 90 yeasrs since she died, because of the idolatrous way she has come to be regarded. If you really believe Ellen G. White was a prophet, if you really are obedient to the "Spirit of Prophecy," then do what Ellen G. White said, and go by the Bible first of all in all things. She excoriated people while she was alive who kept quoted her all the time instead of quoting the Bible. Anyone who quotes Ellen G. White to prove anything in the Bible, any doctrine, and interpetation of prophecy, is being disobedient to the Holy Spirit. Ellen G. (Harmon) White was given the prophetic gift while she was still a Sunday keeper who believed in naturally immortal souls who go immediately to their reward upon death. God never corrected these errors through visions. In every case, God waited, sometimes many years, for Ellen White to be corrected through the Bible study of her brethren. She learned the Sabbath truth from Joseph Bates, and the agreement of other brethren after much study of the issues Bates raised, not by revelation. Ellen White tells of an important conference where brethren were studying out from the Bible sound doctrines in many areas, and she testified that God deliberately "locked" her mind so that she could not participate. Why do you think God did this? If God were to give us another Ellen G. White, it would be a curse to us. Already, too many SDAs base their claim to being the remnant church on having "the spirit of prophecy," which really to them means the writings of Ellen G. White. God means to give us hundreds of prophets, maybe thousands, according to Joel 2. That will be when the real spirit of prophecy is seen in the Remnant Church. It is not healthy, and definitely not right, to base our claim to being the remnant church on the fact that we have the writings on our bookshelves of a prophet who has been dead for 90 years. Where is the spirit of prophecy now? The LIVING testimony? As long as Ellen G. White is exalted like some kind of pagan oracle, presumed to be infallible in every thought or opinion she ever expressed, God will give us no one else like her. If a real successor to Ellen G. White arose, we would probably crucify him, anyway. The church leadership would certainly not welcome someone with that kind of special authority. And the lay people would very quickly come to fear the flood of derserved and needed but personal testimonies that could come from a prophet armed with a word processor and high speed printer and the Internet! I am glad I was a brand plucked from the burning to escape this leaning on man thoughts. When God decides who to be His spoke person in the roll as a prophet, He doesn't need to consult anyone as to how much inspiration He provides. Quote
Ron Lambert Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Ed, the inspiration God provides is a distinct message from Him that He expects the prophet to relay. Inspiration is not a divine "brain boost" that suddenly renders the prophet superhuman, so that he or she possesses all the knowledge and wisdom of God Himself, and every utterance is to be considered straight from God. If you disagree with this, then show me where in the Bible there might be found a model for the kind of inspiration of a prophet that you seem to be espousing. Quote
Guest Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Ron, I have no reserve power to answer you, my opening statement says it all. I am not one that trys to figure out why God says what He says, I am still working on a homework assinement in the Cradle Roll division trusting that whatever He commands may be accomplished in His strength. Even simple minded people have a opporunity to exit this planet. Quote

Ron, I have learned there is no place in the Word that indicates counsel instructing the spreading of the word of a prophet is a disciple's duty. Nor is it necessary for me to convince others of the station in life that Ellen White was called by God to fulfill. However, if a prophet of God is teaching the principles of the Word, and I apply those principles to my life with the success God alone can give, then it honors God to lift up the person to honor who has been honored by God, as long as God is seen as the rightful source of those instructions. [:"red"] " if any man serve me, him will my Father honour." [/] John 12:26 KJV God has never withheld honor from the person who honors Him. However, the effort of some to place responsibility on others, to receive God's prophets in the same manner as they have chosen, are placing themselves in the position of the Holy Spirit, which is blasphemy, therefore a sin. [:"red"] "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." [/] John 7:17 KJV [:"red"] "Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." [/] 2 Tim 2:8-10 KJV Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Ron Lambert Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Yes, LifeHiscost, we should honor Ellen G. White. Even if she is only giving her own personal opinion about something, that personal opinion should be taken seriously, because she was a person who talked to Jesus and to angels, and ministered faithfully for the Lord over a long life. Her judgment is more weighty than the judgment of most other people. But she must not be regarded as infallible. God does not allow any human to be infallible. Should she be elevated to equality with the Bible in everything she says? That is going too far with "honor." And you do not honor a prophetess by disobeying her in the way she said to use and regard her writings. She always said the Bible must be first and above all. If we believe her, then do what she said. Quote
