Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign quietly donated nearly $90,000 to the Red Cross in late November, according to a report filed Thursday night with the Federal Election Commission.

The donation came on Nov. 30 – about one month after Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on the East Coast, stretching thin the organization’s resources, and weeks after the GOP candidate lost to President Barack Obama.

Neither Romney nor his campaign publicized the donation, despite liberal allegations in the days before the election that he had used the Red Cross as a political prop.

Thursday’s FEC filings also revealed several big checks to the consultants who ran his effort – including some criticized for botching his chances last year.

Romney for President in December paid $3.8 million to Targeted Victory, the consulting firm run by his digital director Zac Moffatt, and $2 million to FLS Connect, the telemarketing and direct mail firm in which Romney political director Rich Beeson is a partner.

Both firms were singled out after the election by conservative critics alleging that they charged high fees and failed to deliver results.

Other firms that enjoyed big paydays included VG LLC, a fundraising company associated with Spencer Zwick, Romney’s protege and finance chairman, which was paid $4.8 million by Romney Victory, Inc., a joint committee set up by the Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee. SCM Associates, a direct mail firm run by another Romney associate, was paid a combined $1.8 million by the two Romney committees.

In all, Romney for President and Romney Victory cut checks totaling nearly $27 million in December, which is not usual for a presidential campaign winding down. That included transfers totaling $650,000 to the state parties in Idaho, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Vermont.

The two Romney committees finished the year with a little more than $4 million in the bank, though Romney for President also owes another $826,000 to FLS Connect. Any leftover cash can be used to continue paying late-arriving invoices and legal costs associated with closing a campaign, or it can be donated to charity or other campaigns. Theoretically, some of it could be transferred to a future Romney campaign, though his wife has signaled he’s done with politics.

Well, the hated Cheney gave what, 90-100% of his income as VP to charity...

...Biden has given, how much???

Our "progressives" are charitable only with other people's money.

Blessings,

"The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. Waggoner, The Glad Tidings

I've read articles that have placed the percentage just about everywhere between 80-100%, depending on whether they want to report it based on gross total income, or some adjusted gross figure.

Even though the figure is debated...I know I could not live comfortably in only 10-20% of my current income.

You can tell a lot about a person and where their priorities are by watching what they do with their money and what "some claim to want to do with someone elses money"

Now there's, thedailykos.com, an unbiased source of information. That's leftist source, all the way. Expecting them to say anything good about Dick Cheney is about like waiting to see pigs fly.

Have to laugh a bit.Wonder if Obama took his pitiful donations as a deduction.

Might surprise a few people but there are those that do give way beyond what is considered normal and then take a deduction for that.

I was very proud of my son when he was audited for giving to much to charity based on his income. But of course he took advantage of the "loophole" and declared it as a deduction.

It is doubtful if Obama and Biden will ever find themselves being questioned for giving to much
