Gibs Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 The WAY He Has Made Yes the Way He has made for each and everyone of us to have Salvation from rounding up the second death. The Way He has made for us is the same Way He did it. Yes He was fully God in the body of a man but He took no power but what is ours to overcome from where we must. Yes He did take our sinful and fallen nature! Jesus was born of a woman of the seed of David and so He the man was one of us for certain in that way. He must overcome as a man and not as God! Satan watched this very closely, notice when Jesus prayed He always did so as one of us, not as God. The crux of this matter is it is not just believe and you will be saved. The continuing in sin must be overcome by us using our will and love of Him and the big one is He in you that you may walk as He did above sin and continuing in sin. There is only a place in Paradise for the overcomer! Do you not realize this is why He came as one of us to make the WAY and show us that it could be done! This quiets all voices that say, we can’t stop sinning! Oh yes ALL can, down to the last one of us! We actually have an advantage over what Jesus did, Satan and his can see Christ dwelling in you and know they are defeated foes unless we cast Him out. That is easy to do, resurrect self. Self must be killed all the day and night long, He alone must be made King in the soul temple. The WAY is Christ in you. He declared, “ I am the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE! EGW speaks very well on this, We have no hesitancy in telling you that in order to obtain the immortal inheritance and the eternal substance, you must be overcomers in this probationary life. Everything that blots and stains the soul must be removed, must be cleansed from the heart. We must know what it means to be a partaker of the divine nature, having escaped the corruptions that are in the world through lust. Are you willing to wage war against the lusts of the flesh? Are you ready to battle against the enemy of God and man? Satan is determined to enslave every soul if he can; for he is playing a desperate game to win the souls of men from Christ and eternal life. Will you permit him to steal from you the graces of the Spirit of God, and plant in you his own corrupt nature? or will you accept the great provision of salvation, and through the merits of the Infinite Sacrifice made in your behalf, become a partaker of the divine nature? God has given His only-begotten Son, that through His shame, suffering, and death, you might have glory, honor, and immortality.--Signs of the Times, June 15, 1891. {TDG 175.2} God Works, and Man Works God has given men faculties and capabilities. God works and cooperates with the gifts He has imparted to man, and man, by being a partaker of the divine nature and doing the work of Christ, may be an overcomer and win eternal life. The Lord does not propose to do the work He has given man powers to do. Man's part must be done. He must be a laborer together with God, yoking up with Christ, learning His meekness, His lowliness. God is the all-controlling power. He bestows the gifts; man receives them and acts with the power of the grace of Christ as a living agent. {FW 26.1} Faith that works by love! How can we not love Him above ALL, it must be with all our heart and soul, He must always be First and Best in our hearts! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Yes we know Jesus is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE. We are counseled by His Word to walk in the WAY. Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the WAY, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Do we need a high education of the world to find and walk in His WAY? A little council from EGW. “Many think that they must consult commentaries on the Scriptures in order to understand the meaning of the word of God, and we would not take the position that commentaries should not be studied; but it will take much discernment to discover the truth of God under the mass of the words of men. How little has been done by the church as a body professing to believe the Bible, to gather up the scattered jewels of God's word into one perfect chain of truth? The jewels of truth do not lie upon the surface, as many suppose. The master mind in the confederacy of evil is ever at work to keep the truth out of sight, and to bring into full view the opinions of great men. The enemy is doing all in his power to obscure heaven's light through educational processes; for he does not mean that men shall hear the voice of the Lord, saying, "This is the way, walk ye in it." [isaiah 30:21.] {CE 85.2} To the world His WAY is too narrow, yes and He called it the narrow WAY as He knew it was narrow to the worldly fallen who love to follow their own self driven gratifications. Mt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Mt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the WAY, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Yes He made that narrow WAY and then He as one of us walked in it to show us as an equal ONE of what we can be with His indwelling we can for sure do. Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 The truth of this whole matter is, it is the "FEW" that truly find it. Way too many think they have found it but it is a false way that will have no fruitition. His Way is through that narrow scrapping off gate of the world and it's allurments and the most can't get it in the heart to put away the world and all the pet things they have come to count as, hopefully pleasing to God, but know deep in the heart the things that do not. Yes His Spirit is that still small voice within that convicts of sin. Yes and it can be ignored untill He is grieved away and He does not convict no more. Not all realize the same Spirit convicts of the truth of a question when we have arrived at it when we have done our homework and searched out all the possibilities. He, His Spirit must be our guide, our reckonings by self are not reliable as we are biased of much perverseness . Self is not a reliable guide, this is why Paul revealed self must be cast down. Man must find the sure true WAY He has made and it is not galling, but is a rewarding and uplifting WAY! The first and formost thing in pleasing our God is we must have come to love Him with all the heart and soul! When we do His Law of Love becomes our law, it has come into our hearts, and we then are not under it but are of it. It is our love to please Him and now our nature to do the law as it is our love. Then some and Satan want to tell you no one can keep His Law. When it is your law of love you prove them wrong! It depends on who you love the most! Ro 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. E.G. White. This is the way, the ONLY way to attain to righteousness which is obedience to the law. Bring to God the merits of Christ. "Righteousness is obedience to the law. The law demands righteousness. This the sinner owes to the law; but he is incapable of rendering it. The only way in which he can attain to righteousness is through faith. By faith he can bring to God the MERITS of Christ." F.W.101. There is no other way to attain to righteousness, to obedience to the law. This is the faith that works by love for "Righteousness is love and love is the light and the life of God," and "The life of God in the soul is man's only hope." M.B.18; M.H.115. "Love is the fulfillment of the law." Rom.13:10. Since love is the fulfillment of the law it follows that love is righteousness, the righteousness of God in Christ which is obtained simply by bringing to God the MERITS of a crucified and risen Saviour. It frees the soul from guilt and sorrow, the anxiety and care that crush the life forces. With it come serenity and composure. This is the love that is shed abroad in our hearts by the faith that lays right hold upon the MERITS of a crucified and risen Saviour. This is righteousness by faith for the love of God works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. This is our life business, to look to Jesus and to accept His merits which it is our privilege to claim. "This is the way, walk ye in it." skyblue888 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 By faith that works by love and His imparted merits and indwelling, none have any excuse the WAY was unattainable! _____________ I think you need to re-state this. I have read that the merits of Christ may be placed upon us (imputed to us) so that His righteousness might be imputed and imparted to us but I have never read of "imparted" merits. The merits of Christ may be imputed to us for "He was treated as we deserve that we might be treated as He deserves." D.A.25. As we claim His merits, we are treated accordingly and we receive the precious gift of His righteousness, the whole heavenly treasure. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." Gibs Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 OK, Sky,not a lot of difference but I will state it different, it just takes a little longer sentence, By faith that works by love and His imputed merits and with His indwelling we are strenthened, none have any excuse the WAY was unattainable! Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Imputed means He takes the blame for us and gives us His merits in place. "Mercy implies the imperfection of the object upon which it is bestowed. Because of man's imperfection, mercy was brought into active existence. Sin is not the object of God's love, but of His hatred. Yet He pities the sinner, because the guilty one bears the Creator's image and has received from Him the capabilities that make it possible for him to become a son of God, not through his own merits, but through the imputed merits of Jesus Christ, through the great sacrifice the Saviour has made in his behalf. . . . {TMK 46.4} In the church militant the children of men will be ever in need of restoration from the results of sin. . . . We are all dependent on one another. Almost invariably a man who is superior to another man in some respect is inferior to him in other respects. Every human being on earth is subject to temptation. And all are in need of human influence and sympathy. . . . He who cooperates with God by showing mercy brings himself into a position where God will extend mercy to him, for he is in harmony with the divine attributes. {TMK 46.5} ""In My name," Christ bade His disciples pray. In Christ's name His followers are to stand before God. Through the value of the sacrifice made for them, they are of value in the Lord's sight. Because of the imputed righteousness of Christ they are accounted precious. For Christ's sake the Lord pardons those that fear Him. He does not see in them the vileness of the sinner. He recognizes in them the likeness of His Son, in whom they believe. {DA 667.5} 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs _________ Brother it is not my intention to make this a matter of semantic but there is a vital difference between what you are saying and what I am saying. Taking it from your statement above, it would seem that you are saying that we must first have the faith that works by love and then His imputed merits. Notice these words: "God will accept everyone that comes to Him trusting wholly in the MERITS of a crucified Saviour. Love springs up in the heart." 1 S.M.354. This statement makes it clear that faith is trusting in the merits of Christ for our salvation. As we trust in His merits, they are imputed to us and it is only then that His righteousness is imputed to us (justification) and imparted to us (sanctification) so that the Holy Spirit may do for us that which it is impossible for us to do for ourselves, namely, rendering obedience to the law. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." So we proceed forth in life proving who we truly love. Love is the fulfilling of the law. It must be the law of love in our hearts too, the wonderfull law of love, the 10 commandments. Gibs Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Sky, I need you to answer this question, many are continuing in known sin today and think they have faith when it is presuption that they are imputed the merits of Jesus Christ. I maintain one who is continuing in known sin, and the Holy Spirit convicts all who have not grieved Him away that they are, will not have the imputed merits of Chist given them. The new extreme liberality may think so but it is in vain. The Word they will get from Him is, "I never knew you." Yes of course the merits of Jesus Christ is for our salvation and we are to trust in them fully.. But to continue in known sin shows that one is not His. "But present in fervent words how punishment for finite man has rested upon the Innocent, even the divine Son of God, in order that man might have a mighty Advocate to plead in the sinner's behalf. Was this done that man might continue in sin and be saved in sin? Oh, no! Sin is the hideous thing for which there was no remedy. Christ took the penalty that man might, through faith in Him, have life. The sinner's heart will melt; the soul will be conquered."--Manuscript 55, 1890, pp. 1-7. ("Perils of Trusting in the Wisdom of Men," no date.) It is fine to talk it, but one must then get up and walk it, He showed us how! Back to the WAY He has made that none, not one need be lost, but to most it is too narrow and they will not enter that narrow "strait" gate up that narrow WAY. He walked it as one of us from where we are with the same power that is ours to conquer as He did. He declares to us, Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. skyblue888 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I don't know how many times this needs to be repeated. "You cannot explain this faith that lays right hold upon the MERITS of the blood of a crucified and risen Saviour to BRING Christ's RIGHTEOUSNESS into your life. Clothed with His righteousness and not your own righteousness, you will not depend upon what you can do or what you will do," for "Christ's righteousness accomplishes everything." Faith & Works,65,66,27. This is probably the clearest statement on righteousness by faith there is on record from the pen of inspiration. In Testimonies to Ministers, p.92, we are told there that His righteousness is made manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God! sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
Gibs Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 No Christ's righteousness will not help anyone who insists in continuing sin and that is the false theology of the day. First the Spirit of the Father draws one to Christ, Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. "Paul said to the elders of Ephesus, "I have kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ." Repentance must be exercised toward God because we have all sinned, broken his righteous law, violated the rule of his government, and brought discord into his harmony. We must exercise faith toward Jesus Christ because he had become our sacrifice and surety. He has died that we might have "remission of sins that are past," and obtain grace and help so that we may keep the commandments of the Lord our God. Faith in Jesus does not make void the law, but establishes it, and will work the fruits of obedience in our lives. Faith in Christ means that you are to do whatsoever he commands; it means that you are to follow in his footsteps. "He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." {RH, January 31, 1888 par. 8} Too many want to continue their old walk and claim salvation but that will not be the case. He not only saves from our past sin but saves us from doing sin. Do you think you can be saved partially? Yes for a short time yet we may still have an advocate with the Father if we do lapse and fall. Falling on the knees pronto is needed. Then a stronger resolve must be made! We must never make "cheap" grace of the WAY He has made. His Grace isn't cheap nor His way hard and out of reach for no one! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Moderators Gerr Posted February 24, 2013 Moderators Posted February 24, 2013 No Christ's righteousness will not help anyone who insists in continuing sin and that is the false theology of the day. Soooo, my reward for not insisting in continuing in sin is that I will now get the help of Christ's righteousness? With the possible exception of two persons in this forum (and I'm not even sure if I even understand them correctly), I know of no one who "insists in continuing in sin" and claim salvation. If you think that I am proposing the idea that I can willfully practice sin, you are mistaken. On the other hand, if you think that you get the help of Christ's righteousness because you have now overcome irritation, overeating, not getting sleep, all selfishness, you are sadly mistaken. Quote
Gibs Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Gerry it's done all the time because it is being put forth now in the theology being put forth that we cannot overcome sin. I ask you, why then did He come? He wouldn't have needed to if we couldn't do it in the WAY He has made. He could have made all robots I suppose but I wouldn't be happy as a robot, and would any? We all love liberty and freedom. We just need to come to being of Him, for Him and with Him in all things and then we are tottally free within His will. Within His will is love, justice and true freedom. Yes of ourselves we can do nothing, but with Christ within it not only is possible but is assured. Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. How much faith do we have is answered by what we believe He can do for us when He dwells within! Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Col 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Col 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily. Satan is already a defeated foe when he and his see Christ dwelling in you and they can, where we cannot. We show who is the master in us by what we do. Is God satified with 75% compliance? Satan is happy to have us fall in just a few points and then for us to go on believing we satisfy our God and Saviour. When we sing "Wholly Thine" do we want to lie? Wholly means exclusively Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work. Let your prayer be, “Take me, O Lord, as wholly Thine. I lay all my plans at Thy feet. Use me today in Thy service. Abide with me, and let all my work be wrought in Thee.” This is a daily matter. Each morning consecrate yourself to God for that day. Surrender all your plans to Him, to be carried out or given up as His providence shall indicate. Thus day by day you may be giving your life into the hands of God, and thus your life will be molded more and more after the life of Christ."—(Steps to Christ, 70). {Pr 223.2} ". 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Gerry I've explained here many times, we of ourselves can do nothing. He came to make it so we too could have the same power He took to over come and we can do it just as He did. He did not ask us to do something we could not do when He said go sin no more. Joh 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. Joh 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. Moderators Gerr Posted February 25, 2013 Moderators Posted February 25, 2013 You are skirting the issues I raised about what you said. My understanding of what you said is that you resist sin and succeed with the help of God, and THEN you receive the help of the righteousness of Christ. That is putting the proverbial cart before the horse. That's putting sanctification as the basis for justification. Whether you realize it or not, that is Galatianism all over again. Nothing you or I can do can merit anything. Jesus came and gives us His righteousness precisely because we can't do it ourselves, even with His help. His infinite power is NOT the problem. The LIMITING factor is our sinful nature. That is why as long as you are imprisoned in this present body, you will continue to miss the mark, albeit not willfully. Gibs Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Gerry, I've stated it over and over, Christ in you is our hope of Glory to walk above sin. He cannot dwell in us until all other masters are cast out, the main one is self. We cannot have only Him as Master or He leaves. Mt 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. "Mammon" is the master in many tocay for sure. "It is by overcoming the world, the flesh, and the devil that any student comes into possession of that knowledge that gives him access to the tree of life. We must all learn that we must overcome as Christ overcame in our behalf. All pride is sin, and must be expelled from the soul. Christ came to cut us loose from the originator of sin. He came to give us a mastery over the power of the destroyer, and to save us from the sting of the serpent. Through his imparted righteousness he would place all human beings where they will be on vantage ground. He came to this earth and lived the law of God that man might stand in his God-given manhood, having complete mastery over his natural inclination to self-indulgence and to the selfish ideas and principles which tarnish the soul. He will provide every facility, that man may perfect a completeness of character in every respect.--Ms 161, 1898 You cannot gain an entrance by penance nor by any works that you can do. No, God Himself has the honor of providing a way, and it is so complete, so perfect, that man cannot, by any works he may do, add to its perfection. He cannot dwell in us until all other masters are cast out, the main one is self. We cannot have only Him as Master or He leaves. Let us examine what you are saying here. On the one hand, you are saying that Christ cannot come in and dwell in me while self is still present in me, right? And on the other hand, in another post you said we can't do anything without Christ, right? You have now put the sinner in an impossible position. He must empty himself of self before Christ can come in to dwell within, yet he cannot empty himself of self without Him dwelling within! It is precisely because we cannot empty ourselves of self that He must come and dwell within! That's why I say you have the cart before the horse! When I chose Christ as my Redeemer, the PROCESS of emptying myself of self has just BEGUN. Removing all that debris in my life is like peeling a layer after layer of onion that goes on until the day I die or at the Second Coming. Quote: You cannot gain an entrance by penance nor by any works that you can do. No, God Himself has the honor of providing a way, and it is so complete, so perfect, that man cannot, by any works he may do, add to its perfection. It is broad enough to receive the greatest sinner if he repents, and it is so narrow, so holy, lifted up so high, that sin cannot be admitted there. {1SM 184.3} If you really believe what you just quoted, why then do you think only AFTER you have overcome ALL sin in your life can you have the right to claim the righteousness of Christ? You may claim all you want that Christ is our only hope, but whether you realize it or not, you are making YOUR achievement the basis for your admission into heaven! Quote
Gibs Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Gerry, He draws you to Him in repentance, then you become convicted of your sin and shortcomings. Then you fall on Him broken and remorseful for all your past sins, you put self down and out because you now realize ole #1 is and has been a poor guide. There is no remedy for sin But Christ and so then after repentance He imputes to you His Merits and Righteousness to cover them. As long as you continue in Him, your sins are seen no more. We are not to go back to the old wallowing, He has told you, your sin is forgiven, go sin no more! You've cast all old masters out or you wouldn't have His imputed merits and righteous covering. So now He comes into the cleaned soul temple to dwell to be the Master you have welcomed in over all others whom you have cast out. Now you have His power to overcome all sin and Satan as He did. Your only hope of glory now dwells within you. Set your heart and soul as flint to never fall back realizing if you do you are lost again. "No matter who you are, or what your life has been, you can be saved only in God's appointed way. You must repent; you must fall helpless on the Rock, Christ Jesus. You must feel your need of a physician, and of the one only remedy for sin, the blood of Christ. This remedy can be secured only by repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Here the work is yet to be begun by many who profess to be Christians, and even to be ministers of Christ. Like the Pharisees of old, many of you feel no need of a Saviour. You are self-sufficient, self-exalted. Said Christ, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." The blood of Christ will avail for none but those who feel their need of its cleansing power. {RH, November 18, 1909 par. 5} 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. It wants to force its way in again and again. If by some unguarded moment it gains entrance again, does Christ cease to dwell in? Have I lost my salvation? Quote
